In this work the dynamic heat transfer occurring in a cable penetration fire stop system built in the firewall of nuclear power plants is three-dimensionally investigated to develop a test-simulator that can be used to verify effectiveness of the sealants. Here was carried out an experiment to observe the heat transfer in the cable penetration fire stop system made of DOW CORNING products. The dynamic heat transfer occurring in the fire stop system is formulated in a parabolic partial differential equation subjected to a set of initial and boundary conditions. And it was modeled, simulated, and analyzed. The simulation results were illustrated in three-dimensional graphics and were compared with experimental data. Through the simulations, it was shown clearly that the temperature distribution was influenced very much by the number, position, and temperature of the cable streams. It also was found that the dynamic heat transfer through the cable streams was one of the most dominant factors, and the feature of heat conduction could be understood as an unsteady-state process. It is certain that these numerical results are useful for making a performance-based design for the cable penetration fire stop system.
In this work the dynamic heat transfer occurring in a cable penetration fire stop system built in the firewall of nuclear power plants is three-dimensionally investigated to develop a test-simulator that can be used to verify effectiveness of the sealants. The dynamic heat transfer can be described by a partial differential equation (PDE) and its initial and boundary conditions. For the shake of simplicity PDE is divided into two parts; one corresponding to the heat transfer in the axial direction and the other corresponding to the heat transfer on the vertical layers. Two numerical methods, SOR (Sequential Over-Relaxation) and FEM (Finite Element Method), are implemented to solve these equations respectively. The axial line is discretized, and SOR is applied. Similarly, all the layers are separated into finite elements, where the time and spatial functions are assumed to be of orthogonal collocation state at each element. The heat fluxes on the layers are calculated by FEM. It is shown that the penetration cable influences the temperature distribution of the fire stop system very significantly. The simulation results are shown in the three-dimensional graphics for the understanding of the transient temperature distribution in the fire stop system.
In 2006, Jeju Island in South Korea experienced a crisis, no electricity for three hours anywhere in the entire island. This incident was caused by a domino effect that occurred after one of the submarine power cables connecting the island to Haenam, a coastal city on the mainland, was damaged by an external load, probably from a ship anchor or a steel pile being used in marine farming. This study presents a collision analysis of a new submarine power cable protector called arch type reinforced concrete. For the analysis, a dynamic finite element program, ANSYS AUTODYN, was used to examine the displacement and stress of the submarine power cable protector using different material models (RHT concrete model, Mohr.Coulomb concrete model). In addition, two reinforcing bar spacings, 75 mm and 150 mm, were considered. From the analyses, the effects of the parameters (concrete model and spacing) on the results (displacement and stress) were analyzed, and the relations between the damage and parameters were found.

In this paper, we present the evaluation results for the conservatism of the response acceleration method (RAM), for seismic response analysis of box-type power cable tunnels. We studied 50 examples, considering the cross sections of 25 power cable tunnels, and two soil conditions for each power cable tunnel. A refined dynamic analysis method considering the soil-structure interaction was further employed to evaluate the conservatism of the RAM. The comparison revelated that the seismic responses computed using the RAM were consistent with those obtained using the refined method, since the averages of response ratio (defined as the ratio of the response by RAM to that of the refined method) approached 1.0, and the standard deviations of the response ratio were less than 5%. Finally, we found that applying a load factor of 1.1 to the response of the RAM allowed for a conservative design for seismic loads.

The dynamic properties between catenary and pantograph of high-speed train are very important factors to affect the stable electric power supply. So as to design the reliable current collection system, a multibody simulation model is needed. In this paper, the dynamic analysis method for a pantograph-catenary cable system of high-speed train is presented. The very deformable motion of a catenary cable is demonstrated using nonlinear continuous beam theory, which is based on an absolute nodal coordinate formulation, and the pantograph is modeled as a rigid multibody. The proposed method might be very efficient, because this method can present the nonlinear properties of a flexible catenary cable and set a various boundary conditions.
An analytical algorithm for the estimation of the resistance forces exerted on the dipper of a cable shovel and the specific energy consumed in the cutting-loading process is presented. Forces due to payload and to cutting of geomaterials under given initial conditions, cutting trajectory of the bucket, bucket's design, and geomaterial properties are analytically computed. The excavation process has been modeled by means of a kinematical shovel model, as well as of dynamic payload and cutting resistance models. For the calculation of the cutting forces, a logsandwich passive failure mechanism of the geomaterial is considered, as has been found by considering that a slip surface propagates like a mixed mode crack. Subsequently, the Upper-Bound theorem of Limit Analysis Theory is applied for the approximate calculation of the maximum reacting forces exerted on the dipper of the cable shovel. This algorithm has been implemented into an Excel$^{TM}$ spreadsheet to facilitate user-friendly, "transparent" calculations and built-in data analysis techniques. Its use is demonstrated with a realistic application of a medium-sized shovel. It was found, among others, that the specific energy of cutting exhibits a size effect, such that it decreases as the (-1)-power of the cutting depth for the considered example application.
Since the most of the mal-functions in the industrial equipments controlled by processors have been occured by the Electrical Fast Transient(EFT), the International Electrotechnical Commision(IEC) prepare the dummy signal to test the immunity level of the equipments controlled by processors and recommend it for the measuring. In this paper, the defined dummy EFT signal by IEC are analyzed by the spectrum analyzer in the frequency domain and studied the developed countermeasuring parts. The new developed parts are consist of the feedthrough capacitors ( $C_y$ type ) in the input and materials with high permeaility which was wound or inserted in the second layer of the Power Cable in order to increase Common Mode inductance. And it is compared inserted Permalloy to material with high permeability increasing Common Mode inductance. We could gotten a excellent insertion loss on the wide band against EFT signal. Especially, we confirm that countermeasuring Power Cable have been an excellent dynamic characteristics in computer system above the 3.6Kv. This new parts could be effectively used for industrial, MIL, and medical equipments to reduce a mal-functions on the site. Furthermore, these parts also have a good characteristics for EMI countermeasuring over the 60MHz up to several GHz band, they are also expected to be used for all kind of EMS test with IEC801-2, 3, 5 and 6 on the power distributed line.

In recent years, the demand for portable digital devices such as cellular phone, digital camera, and MP3 player has been largely increased. To meet the requirements of such portable applications the information storage devices with smaller size, higher capacity, and lower power consumption are needed. A small form factor (SFF) HDD using a load/unload (L/UL) system is one of the appropriate alternatives to satisfy these requirements. Due to complexity of L/UL process and mechanism, it is required to investigate for better understanding the effects of design parameters. Among the various design parameters, flexible cable and friction force on the L/UL ramp become important to the dynamic characteristics of L/UL process as the system is miniaturized. The program for L/UL simulation which considers the effect of flexible cable and L/UL ramp is needed. Unfortunately, there is hardly any commercial program for the L/UL simulation except the Computer Mechanics Laboratory (CML) air bearing design program and the CML L/UL simulation code. Furthermore, the design parameters such as flexible cable and the L/UL ramp are not considered in the CML L/UL simulation code. So we embody the L/UL simulation considering flexible cable and an L/UL ramp by using the ANSYS/LS-DYNA. In this thesis, the effects of flexible cable and friction force on the dynamic characteristics and the performances of the L/UL process are studied. Numerical simulation and related experiments are carried out and compared each other.
Steel cables as the most important components are widely used in the certain types of structures such as cable-supported bridges, but the long-span structures may result in an increase in fatigue under high stress and corrosion of steel cables. The traditional steel cable is becoming a more evident hindrance. Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) cables with lightweight, high-strength are widely used in civil engineering, but there is little research in vibrational characteristics of FRP cables, especially on the damping characteristic. This article studied the two methods to evaluate dynamical damping characteristic of basalt FRP(BFRP) and glass FRP(GFRP) cables. First, the vibration tests of the B/G FRP cables with different diameter and different cable force were executed. Second, the cables forces were calculated using dynamic strain, static strain and dynamic acceleration respectively, which were further compared with the measured force. Third, experimental modal damping of each cables was calculated by the half power point method, and was compared with the calculation by Rayleigh damping theory and energy dissipation damping theory. The results indicate that (1) The experimental damping of FRP cables decreases with the increase of cable force, and the trend of experimental damping changes is roughly similar with the theoretical damping. (2) The distribution of modal damping calculated by Rayleigh damping theory is closer to the experimental results, and the damping performance of GFRP cables is better than BFRP cables.
A Bi-2223 tape has beer developed for power applications such as a fault current limiter, a power cable and a superconducting magnetic energy storage system. In such applications, the Bi-2223 tape carries time varying transport current and in addition experiences time varying external magnetic field. It is well known that the external magnetic field not only causes magnetization loss in the Bi-2223 tape, but also drastically increases transport loss due to a so-called "dynamic resistance". We developed an evaluation setup, which can measure transport loss in external at magnetic fields. Using this equipment, we measured the dynamic resistances for various amplitudes and frequencies of an external ac magnetic field perpendicular to the face in the tape. Simultaneously we investigated the effect of an external ac field on transport loss with different experimental conditions. This paper describes test results and discussions on correlation between the dynamic resistance and the transport loss for the Bi-2223 tape.
