  • In general, the strength of hull structures can be estimated from stress evaluation considering static and hydro-dynamic load due to sea-wave. However, war ships such as submarine, have frequently experienced the underwater explosion and local structures of ship as well as hull girder can be damaged by the dynamic response excited from underwater non-contact explosion. When explosion happens at underwater, shock wave is radiated In early short time, then gas bubbles are generated, and expansion and contraction are repeated as they float to the surface. The shock wave causes the damage of equipment and its supporting structures, on the other hand, the hull girder strength can be lost by resonance between bubble pulsation and lowest ship natural vibration period. In this paper, the hydro-Impulse force due to bubble was calculated. Based on these results the hull girder strength of submarine was estimated from transient response analysis by using NASTRAN. Also, shock analysis for some equipment supporting structures was carried out by using DDAM. In order to evaluate the strength of these local structures due to shock wave.

  • This paper reviews the dynamic load phenomenon referred to as 'silo quaking', caused shock vibration and loud noise, during gravity discharge in coal silos. Quaking in tall silo is examined using experimental data obtained from a Coal Power Plant and several experimental and numerical investigations available in the published literature. In the experiment, the acceleration was measured at various height on the silo column and floor and by doing so, not only could the variation of the amplitude of the quaking be observed, but also the propagation of waves could clearly be seen. Through an overview of recent research on this subject, it is shown that the current silo quaking is produced by slip-stick friction between the internal wall of silo and the granular material, i.e. coal.

  • Dynamic Load/unload (L/UL) mechanism is an alternative to the contact start stop (CSS) technology which eliminates striction and wear failure modes associated with CSS. Inertia latch mechanism becomes important for mobile disk drives because of non operating shock performance. Various types of latch designs have been introduced in hard disk drives to limit a rotary actuator from sudden uncontrolled motion. In this paper, a single spring inertia latch is introduced for a small form optical disk drive, which uses a rotary actuator for moving an optical pick-up. A new small inertia latch with sin91e spring is designed to ensure both feasible and small size. The shock performance of the new inertia latch is experimentally verified.

  • Pneumatic cylinder is widely used fur mechanical handling systems. Often, the impact occurs at the both ends points of pneumatic cylinder and generates the destructive shock with in the structural operating members of the machine or equipment. To reduce the damage of system, therefore, shock absorbing devices are required. Cushioning of pneumatic cylinders at one or both ends of piston stroke is used to reduce the shock and vibration. The cylinder body have to withstand under conditions of high velocity and load. In this research pneumatic cushioning cylinder moving tests have been conducted for different load mass and supply pressure. The velocity of pneumatic cylinder actuation system which is set vertically with multiple orifice cushion sleeve is controled with the meter-in/out control system. This study examines the dynamic characteristics of pneumatic cylinder which are used as cushion devices. It turns out that the cushion pressure is mainly a function of the external load rather than the supply pressure. The cushion region characteristics was also revealed in the meter-in control system.

  • The vehicle-mounted radar system (VMRS) including its electronic parts must be designed so that its performance is maintained under varying environmental conditions. The important aspects are typically weight and safety. Since many rotating VMRSs have been developed, discussion about the vibration and shock requirements for the transportation conditions has occurred: in addition, the dynamic unpaved, paved, and off-road effects have been emphasized with respect to lightweight designs. A lightweight-design VMRS should be capable of operating stably under the wind condition with the support of the vehicle structure. In this paper, a structural analysis regarding the support of the VMRS is performed, whereby the real-load conditions for three types of road and pressure were employed in terms of the wind condition. The structural analysis for the safety of the VMRS is performed, and the structural-integrity analytical processes of the VMRS are presented for different load conditions.

  • Pyro-shock generally refers to the severe mechanical transients caused by the detonation of an ordnance device on a structure. Such device on a structure, including linear explosive, and point explosive are widely used to accomplish in-flight separation of structural elements on aerospace vehicle. And they are a significant cause of launch vehicle failures. The launch vehicle being developed in Korea also uses the explosive for separation events. In this paper, the isolator equipped to small satellite launch vehicle made of PTFE(Teflon) is developed to reduce the separation shock. The test to measure dynamic stiffness of PTFE isolator is performed. This test enables us to find the frequency range of PTFE isolator. And,, pyre-shock test using explosive to evaluate the performance of PTFE isolator is executed. from this study, the isolator conformed to frequency range and load requirement is developed using PTFE instead of rubber.

  • Dynamic Load/unload (L/UL) mechanism is an alternative to the contact start stop (CSS) technology which eliminates stiction and wear failure modes associated with CSS. Other benefits of L/UL include increased areal density due to smooth disk surfaces, thinner overcoats, and lower head flying height Improved shock resistance due to elimination of head slap, and reduced power consumption. • Viscoelastic components for vibration isolation or shock absorption in automobiles, machines and buildings are often subject to a high level of static deformation. From the dynamic design point of view, it is requisite to predict dynamic complex stiffness of viscoelastic components accurately and efficiently. To this end, a systematic procedure for complex modulus measurement of the viscoelastic material under large static deformation is often required in the industrial fields. In this paper, dynamic test conditions and procedures for the viscoelastic material under small oscillatory load superimposed on large static deformation are discussed. Various standard test methods are investigated in order to select an adequate test methodology. The influence of fixed boundary condition in the compression tests upon complex stiffness are investigated and an effective correction technique is proposed. Then the uniaxial tension and compression tests are performed and its results are compared with analysis results from conventional constitutive models.
