Phase behavior of a PEO-PPO-PEO (Pluronic P103) triblock copolymer in water is investigated using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and rheology. Pluronic P103 shows apparent two gel states in different temperature regions. The first sol-to-gel transition at a lower temperature (i.e., the hard gel I state) turns out to be the hexagonal microphase as evidenced by the combined SANS and SAXS and the frequency dependence of both G′ and G" in rheology. In contrast to the hard gel I, the second sol-to-gel transition (i. e., the hard gel II state) at a higher temperature represents the block copolymer micelles in somewhat disordered state rather than the ordered state seen in the hard gel I. Moreover, turbidity change depending only on the temperature with four distinct regions is observed and the large aggregates with size larger than 5,000 nm are detected with DLS in the turbid solution region. Based upon the present study, two different gelation mechanisms for aqueous PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer solutions are proposed.
Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) with high degree of hydrolysis of above 98% was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO), and the shear viscosity was measured up to $C{\simeq}0.14\;g/mL$ in the semi-dilute solution regime. Next, as probe particle, polystyrene(PS) latex was introduced into this matrix system and its delayed diffusion due to polymer concentration was investigated by means of dynamic light scattering. When the solution viscosity of PVA/DMSO was plotted against the reduced concentration $C[{\eta}]$, which is scaled by the intrinsic viscosity, the molecular weight dependence was strongly appeared at C$[{\eta}]$ >2. Some heterogeneties in polymer solution were considered as its source. Contrary, the diffusion of probe particle in the matrix solution was observed as a single mode motion at whole concentration range but its ratio of its diffusion coefficient at solution to that at solvent, D/Do did not show any molecular weight dependence at all. However, the application limit of the stretched exponential function was disclosed at C$[{\eta}]$ >2.5.
The trend of Digital x-ray Detector research is to improve resolution of image and to embody large area imaging as well as dynamic moving imaging, etc. This research is divided with indirect conversion method and direct conversion method by radiation conversion process. Each conversion method has problems such as decrease of resolution from light scattering in indirect method case and not only low system stability but also difficult in dynamic moving imaging in direct method case. X-ray detector using liquid crystal has been researching to solve these problems, but it is difficulty in uniform injection of liquid crystal because of its structural properties. Therefore, this study suggests the structure which solves present problem. Also the possibility of suggested structure was investigated using simulation.
Urushiol, a natural monomeric oil, was used to prepare a detergentless micro-emulsion with water and 2-propanol The formation of micro-emulsion was verified by conductivity measurements and dynamic light scattering. The conductivity data showed phase change dynamics, a characteristics of micro-emulsions, and subsequent dynamic light scattering study further confirmed the phenomenon. Average water droplet diameter was 10 nm to 500 nm when the molar ratio of 2-propanol ranged from 0.40 to 0.44 . Earlier studies were performed on toluene and hexane, in which the insoluble substrate in water phase was added to the solvents to be reacted on by enzymes. However, in the present urushiol system, urushiol was used as both solvent and substrate in the laccase polymerization of urushiol. The laccase activity in the system was examined using polymerization of urushiol. The laccase activity in the system was examined using syringaldezine as a substrate, and the activity increased rapidly near the molar ratio of 2-propanol at 0.4, where micro-emulsion started. The activity rose until 0.46 and fell dramatically thereafter. The study of laccase activity in differing mole fractions of 2-propanol showed the existence of an ‘optimal zone’, where the activity of laccase was significantly higher. In order to analyze urushiol polymerization by laccase, a bubble column reactor using a detergentless micro-emulsion system was constructed. Comparative study using other organic solvents systems were conducted and the 2-propanol system was shown to yield the highest polymerization level. The study of laccase activity at a differing mole fraction of 2-propanol showed the existence of an ‘optimal zone’ where the activity was significantly higher. Also, 3,000 cP viscosity was achieved in actual urushi processing, using only 1/100 level of laccase present in urushi.

As the size of semiconductors becomes smaller, it is necessary to perform high precision polishing of nanoscale. Ceria, which is generally used as an abrasive, is widely used because of its uniform quality, but its stability is not high because it has a high molecular weight and causes agglomeration and rapid precipitation. Such agglomeration and precipitation causes scratches in the polishing process. Therefore, it is important to accurately analyze the size distribution of ceria particles. In this study, a study was conducted to select dispersants useful for preventing coagulation and sedimentation of ceria. First, a dispersant was synthesized and a ceria slurry was prepared. The defoamer selection experiment was performed in order to remove the air bubbles which may occur in the production of ceria slurry. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AsFlFFF) were used to determine the size distribution of ceria particles in the slurry. AsFlFFF is a technique for separating nanoparticles based on sequential elution of samples as in chromatography, and is a useful technique for determining the particle size distribution of nanoparticle samples. AsFlFFF was able to confirm the presence of a little quantities of large particles in the vicinity of 300 nm, which DLS can not detect, besides the main distribution in the range of 60-80 nm. AsFlFFF showed better accuracy and precision than DLS for particle size analysis of a little quantities of large particles such as ceria slurry treated in this study.

In this study, the emulsion stability of henna, a natural hair dye, according to the content of cetyl alcohol, one of the emulsification stabilizers, was analyzed, and the content of cetyl alcohol showing the most stable emulsification was confirmed. To analyze the emulsion stability, differences in particle size, particle shape, viscosity, and color after dyeing were compared according to the content of cetyl alcohol. As a result of dynamic light scattering (DLS) zeta analysis, cetyl alcohol 3% showed the highest zeta potential value of 115.9 mV, and the particle size distribution was henna in which a cream-type hair dye containing 3% cetyl alcohol was dispersed in distilled water. The width of the particle size distribution was narrow compared to. As a result of viscometer analysis, the viscosity increased as the content of cetyl alcohol increased. As a result of measuring the henna pH of the cream formulation, it was measured in a pH range suitable for the scalp. As a result, emulsion stability increases as the content of cetyl alcohol increases in henna cream formulations for hair dye.
In this study, the Al2O3 nanofluid was synthesized as an additive for improving the injection efficiency and storage capacity of carbon dioxide (CO2) in a depleted sandstone reservoir or deep saline aquifer. As the base fluid, deionized water (DIW) and saline prepared by referring to the composition of API Brine were used, and the fluid was synthesized by using Al2O3 nanofluid with CTAB (cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide), a cationic surfactant. After that, the dispersion stability was evaluated by using visual observation, dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and miscibility test. As a result, it was presented that stable nanofluid without agglomeration and precipitation after reaction with 70,000 ppm of brine could be synthesized when the nanoparticle concentration was 0.05 wt% or less.

In order to investigate the structure and dynamics of atatic poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/water system, laser light scattering experiment has been done in the semi-dilute concentration regime at $25^{\circ}C$. The scattering intensity I(q) can be analyzed with the fractal equation of $I(q){\sim}q^{-m}$ instead of Onstein-Zernike type equation. The fractal dimensionality m was found to be constant after reaching the plateau value of $m=2.6{\pm}0.3$ above C=3wt%. The time correlation function of dynamic light scattering has always two different modes such as fast mode and slow one. The cooperative diffusion of fast mode showed concentration independence contrary 4o the reptation theory's concentration dependent exponent of 3/4. The slow mode can be interpreted as the motion of large scale heterogeneities and its strong concentration dependence is apparent with a large negative exponent of -3.0. It is considered that the stereo-regular arrangement with four successive meso units of -OH plays as a key role in forming such heterogeneity.
The sizes and structures of micelles formed in aqueous solutions of cationic octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (OTAC) and anionic ammonium dodecyl sulfate (ADS) surfactants were investigated using smallangle neutron scattering (SANS), self-diffusion coefficients by pulsed-gradient spin-echo (PGSE) NMR, and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods. SANS and DLS data indicate that their structures are spherical at concentrations as high as 300 mM. As the total surfactant concentration increases, the peaks of SANS spectra shift to higher scattering vector and become sharper, indicating that the intermicellar distance decreases and its distribution becomes narrower. This is due to more compact packing of surfactant molecules at high concentrations. The intermicellar distance of around 100 ${\AA}$ above 200 mM corresponds approximately to the diameter of one micelle. The sizes of spherical micelles are 61 ${\AA}$ and 41 ${\AA}$ for 9 mM OTAC and 10 mM ADS, respectively. Also the self-diffusion coefficients by PGSE-NMR yield the apparent sizes 96 ${\AA}$ and 31 ${\AA}$ for micelles of 1 mM OTAC and 10 mM ADS, respectively. For ADS solutions of high concentrations (100-300 mM), DLS data show that the micelle size remains constant at $25{\pm}2{\AA}$. This indicates that the transition in micellar shape does not take place up to 300 mM, which is consistent with the SANS results.
CdS-QD particles are a nano-sized semiconducting crystal that emits light. Their optical properties show great potential in many areas of applications such as disease-diagnostic reagents, optical technologies, media industries and solar cells. The wavelength of emitting light depends on the particle size and thus the quality control of CdS-QD particle requires accurate determination of the size distribution. In this study, CdS-QD particles were synthesized by a simple ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation method. As a particle stabilizer polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) were added. In order to determine the size and size distribution of the CdS-QD particles, sedimentation field-flow fractionation (SdFFF) was employed. Effects of carious parameters including the the flow rate, external field strength, and field programming conditions were investigated to optimize SdFFF for analysis of CdS-QD particles. The Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis show the primary single particle size was ~4 nm, TEM images indicate that the primarty particles were aggregated to form secondary particles having the mean size of about 159 nm. As the concentration of the stabilizer increases, the particle size tends to decrease. Mean size determined by SdFFF, TEM, and dynamic light scattering (DLS) were 126, 159, and 152 nm, respectively. Results showed SdFFF may become a useful tool for determination of the size and its distribution of various types of inorganic particles.
