  • In this paper a methodology for designing a controller based on inverse dynamics for speed control of DC motors is presented. The proposed controller consists of a low-pass prefilter the inverse dynamic model of a system and the PI controller. The low-pass prefilter prevents high frequency effects from the inverse dynamic model. The model is characterized by a nonlinear friction model. The PI controller regulates the error between the set-point and the system output which is caused by modeling error disturbances and variations f parameters. The parameters of the model and the PI controller are optimized offlinely by genetic algorithm. The experimental results on a DC motor system illustrate the performance of the proposed controller.

  • This paper addresses the design of sliding model fuzzy-model-based controller using genetic algorithms. In general, the construction of fuzzy logic controllers has difficulties for the lack of systematic design procedure. To release this difficulties, the sliding model fuzzy-model-based controllers was presented by authors. In this proposed method, the fuzzy model, which represents the local dynamic behavior of the given nonlinear system, is utilized to construct the controller. The overall controller consists of the local compensators which compensate the local dynamic linear model and the feed-forward controller which is designed via sliding mode control theory. Although, the stability and the performance is guaranteed by the proposed method, some design parameters have to be chosen by the designer manually. This problem can be solved by using genetic algorithms. The proposed method tunes the parameters of the controller, by which the reasonable accuracy and the control effort is achieved. The validity and the efficiency of the proposed method are verified through simulations.

  • This paper deals with a voltage and frequency (VF) controller for an isolated power generation system based on an asynchronous generator (AG) driven by a pico hydro turbine. The proposed controller is a combination of a static compensator (STATCOM) and an electronic load controller (ELC) for decoupled control of the reactive and active powers of the AG system to control the voltage and frequency respectively. The proposed generating system along with its VF controller is modeled in MATLAB using SIMULINK and PSB (Power System Block Sets) toolboxes. The performance of the controller is verified for the proposed system and feeding various types of consumer load such as linear/non-linear, balanced/unbalanced and dynamic loads.

  • In this paper, a method for optimal design of PID controller using the immune algorithm(IA) has been proposed to improve the stability of A.C.-D.C. power system. To design optimal PID controller, formulation of AC-DC system equation, selection of stability analysis model, formulation immune algorithm and application model of optimal PID controller are proposed in order of the paper. In case of various disturbance, computer simulations have been performed and the proposed IA-PID controller has been compared with base controller which is conventional control technique for dynamics. From simulation results, it is demonstrated that proposed IA-PID controller has good dynamic responses about the disturbance of power system and reliability as compared with the base control.

  • This paper presents the regulation of the output voltage and inductor currents in a Single Ended Primary Inductor Converter (SEPIC), operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) using a sliding mode controller. Owing to the time varying nature of the SEPIC converter, designing a feedback controller is a challenging task. In order to improve the dynamic performance of the SEPIC, a Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is developed. The developed SMC is designed by using a state space average model. The performance of the developed controller with the SEPIC converter is validated at different working conditions through Matlab simulations. It is also compared with the performance while using a PI controller. The results show that the designed controller gives very good output voltage regulation under different operating conditions such as a varying input voltage, changes in the load and component variations. A 48V, 46W experimental setup for has been developed in an analog platform to validate the performance of the proposed SMC.

  • This paper deals with the lateral dynamic model of an all-wheel steered articulated vehicle to design a guidance controller. Nonlinear dynamic model of articulated vehicle is developed by complementing the model about the BRT system of California PATH in U. S. A. and the Phileas system of the APTS in Netherlands. Linear lateral dynamic model has been derived from the nonlinear dynamic model under some assumptions associated with the driving conditions. To design a guidance controller, we derive a transfer function that is steering angle as input and lateral acceleration as output from the linear lateral dynamic model by applying the parameter of vehicle that is developed by Korea Railroad Research Institute. To validate the dynamic model, nonlinear dynamic model has been compared with a vehicle model that has been programmed in ADAMS, and linear dynamic model has been compared with a nonlinear dynamic model under sime assumptions.

  • This paper proposes a PC-based open architecture controller for a multi-axis robotic manipulator. The designed controller can be applied for various multi-axes robotic manipulators since the motion controller is implemented on a PC with its peripheral devices. The accuracy of the controller based on the computed torque method has been measured with the dynamic model of manipulator. Since the controller is implemented in the PC-based architecture, it is free from the user circumstances and the operating environment. Dynamics of the manipulator have been compensated by the feed forward path in the inner loop and the resulting linear outer loop has been controlled by PD algorithm. Using the specialized language, it can be more efficient in programming and in driving of the multi-axis robot. Unlike the conventional controller that is used to control only a specific robot, this controller can be easily changed for various types of robots. This paper proposes a PC-based controller that has a simple architecture with its simple interface circuits than general commercial controllers. The maintenance and the performance of the controller can be easily improved for a specific robot. In fact, using a Samsung multi-axis robot, AT1, the controller performance and convenience of the PC-based controller have been verified by comparing to the commercial one.

  • The mobile robot is known as a nonlinear system with constraints. The general tracking controller for the mobile platform has been divided into the kinematic and the dynamic controller. The reason of dividing controller is the constraints. We can get some information through some numerical experiments. When the reference linear and angular velocity were given, the stability of mobile robot without the kinematic controller depend on the start point of reference cart. Therefore this paper composed of two controller for solving tracking problem. The main controller is the dynamic controller which used generally such as the PID controller. And this paper adopts the auxiliary controller in order to compensate the difference of initial point between the reference cart and a mobile robot. Finally, the numerical experiment is performed in order to show the validity of our method.

  • $H_{\infty}$ control has been applied to the design of practical control systems widely because of its robustness. It can minimize $H_{\infty}$ norm of the transfer function between the desired output and the disturbances. The SMC(Sliding Mode Control) is more robust and give the better performance than the $H_{\infty}$ control if the matching condition is satisfied. A controller which can have the advantages of $H_{\infty}$ control and the SMC is proposed to add the robustness of the SMC to the $H_{\infty}$ controller. Its design is based on the augmented system of which dynamics have one higher order than that of the original system and has the same dynamic as the desired system in spite of uncertainties. The dynamic of proposed sliding surface is the same dynamic as the system controlled by $H_{\infty}$ controller without the uncertainties which satisfy the matching condition.
