Generally, the plate load test and the field density test are conducted for compaction quality control in earthwork, and then additional analysis. Recently developed that the DCPT (Dynamic Cone Penetration Test) equipment for smart compaction quality control its the system are able to get location and real-time information about worker history management. The IoT-based the DCPT system improved the time-cost in the field compared traditional test, and the functions recording and storage of the DPI (Dynamic Cone Penetration Index) were automated. This paper describes using these DCPT equipment on in-situ and compared to the standards of the DCPT, and the compaction trend had be confirmed with DPI as the field test data. As a result, the DPI of the final compaction decreased by 1.4 times compared to the initial compaction, confirming the increase in the compaction strength of the subgrade compaction layer 10 to 14 cm deep from the surface. A trend of increasing compaction strength was observed. This showed a tendency to increase the compaction strength of the target DPI proposed by MnDOT and the results of the existing plate load test, but there was a difference in the increase rate. Therefore, additional studies are needed on domestic compaction materials and laboratory conditions for target DPI and correlation studies with the plate load tests. If this is reflected, it is suggested that DCPT will be widely used as smart construction equipment in earthworks.
This study investigated both water content and penetration resistance of small cone of various clay soils that were made of Kaolinite and Bentonite with different mixing ratios and compared the results with those of the existing dynamic (Casagrande test) and static (fall cone test) tests directly. The comparison showed that the water content at the inflection point on a curve of water content and penetration resistance was very similar to the liquid limit from a fall cone test. The penetration resistance of small cone at the inflection point was 0.2 kPa, and it was ascertained that the water content at the inflection point represents a liquid limit of clay soils. From the study results, it was found that the penetration resistance of 0.2 kPa with the small cone can be an indicator of the liquid limit of clay soils in practice. Finally a test procedure to measure the liquid limit of clay soil based on a penetration resistance of small cone was proposed.

In this study, the pilot tests on the reclaimed land were performed in order to find the suitable construction method with dynamic compaction Type I, Type II at different dynamic energy and hydraulic hammer compaction. The estimation of the compaction through the various pilot tests was performed by the CPT-qc, SPT-N and field density tests. As the result of the pilot tests, it shows that the dynamic compaction method is better than the hydraulic hammer compaction method in the effect of the ground improvement, especially dynamic compaction Type I is much superior to others. When it comes to method for measuring the intensity of the ground, the value of the cone penetration test-resistance(qc) is much suitable for the ground. Besides, the standards for the compaction control, which showed that over 10Mpa at 0 through 5meters in the upper layer and 7Mpa at 5 through 8meters in the lower layer in the CPT-qc, could be found without discrimination of the upper road and lower road on the reclaimed land. And it also found that the intensity of the reclaimed land gets back to the original status in about 10 through 15 days.
An active layer distributed on surface of an extreme cold region causes a frost heave by repeating the freezing and thawing according to the seasonal temperature change. Since the height of frost heave is greatly affected by the thickness of active layer, an accurate evaluation of the thickness of active layer is necessary for the safe design and construction of the infrastructure in the extreme cold region. In this study, dynamic cone penetrometer, which is miniaturized in-situ penetration device, is applied for the evaluation of active layer depth distribution. As the application tests, two dynamic cone penetration tests were conducted on the study sites located in Solomon and Alaska. In addition, ground temperature variations were obtained. As the results of the application tests, the depth of interface between the active layer and the permafrost was evaluated from the difference in dynamic cone penetration indexes of the active layer and the permafrost, and a layer was detected around the interface considered as an ice lens layer. Also, the interface depths between the above zero and the below zero temperature determined from the ground temperature variations correspond with the interface depths evaluated from the dynamic cone penetration tests. This study demonstrates that the dynamic cone penetrometer may be a useful tool for the evaluation of the active layer in the extreme cold region.
Because of Recent intensive rainfall, nationally landslides and slope failure phenomenon has been frequently occur. Providing proposed-measures to the natural disasters that occur in these localities and the slope, must be derived ground of strength parameters(shear strength) as a design input data. However, it is such as extra deforestation and a lot of economic costs in order to make the access to the current area and the slopes ground survey is required. Thus, by small dynamic cone penetration test machine using the human to carry in the field, it is possible to easily measure the characteristics and strength constant of the ground of more than one region. In this study through researching analysis of the domestic and foreign small dynamic cone penetration test method, it has proposed a cone material and test methods suitable for the country. Cone penetration test Nc in the field has comparated with analysis of the value and the standard penetration test N value. And, in addition to this, direct shear test and borehole shear test were performed by depth, bedrock, and soil type and passing #200 and the correlation of the Nc value. In particular, in the present study, for the sandy soil that has distict distribute in mountain, it is proposed relation of shear strength corresponding to the Nc value (cohesion and internal friction angle) in order to calculate such effective ground shear strength.

The purpose of this study was to estimate that the relations of weathering speed and shear strength of granite soil by tracing the weathering depth of granite soil from the very moment of its cutting. The results obtained this follows ; 1) The relationships among Nc, Li and CEC, Li>6%, CEC>14 corresponds to Nc=2~30, and 4%
${\phi}$)increases at a standard pressure. 3) And Nc=0~50 corresponds to $27{\sim}50^{\circ}$ of internal fiction angle and to 12~49kPa of cohesion. That is to say, internal friction angle(${\phi}$)corresponds better than cohesion(c). In conclusion, this study suggests that in simplified dynamic cone penetration test a penetration boundary line of 5 centimeters is decided at around Li=4%, CEC=3(meq/100g) which is classified as a completely weathering soil. It also appears that CEC increases as Li increases while Nc decreases.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear parameters on cutting slope of weathered granite soils by using small dynamic cone penetration test on the very moment of its cutting. The results were : On the relations among N$\_$c/, Li, and CEC, the condition of Li>6%, CEC>14(meq/100g) corresponds to that of N$\_$c/ values of 2∼30, and 3<CEC<14(meq/100g) to N$\_$c/=30∼50. Comparing the smallest penetration depth from two small dynamic cone penetration tests done at 5m below from the top of the slope on April 15th, October 31t. there was a l0cm difference. So we could find out the degree of weathering on the slope. And dividing the difference by 190 days (the whole testing time), we could know it's being weathered 0.052mm each day. The more N. value increases, the more shear parameters(internal friction angle ; $\phi$, cohesion : c) increase at a standard pressure($\sigma$>32㎪). So the condition of N$\_$c/=2∼50 corresponds to that of $\phi$=27∼50, c=12∼49㎪. From the above testing results, the N$\_$c/ values more correspond to $\phi$ values than c values. In conclusion, this study suggests that on small dynamic cone penetration test a penetration boundary line of 5 centimeters is decided at around Li=4%, CEC=3(meq/100g) which is classified as a strong weathering soil. It also shows that as Li increases CEC increases as well, while N$\_$c/ decreases.

Today, In-Situ testing for measureing geotechnical characterization are divided by Cone Penetration Test, Standard Penetration Test and Dilatometer Test, and will vary depending on soil conditions have been applied (Korea Geotechnical Engineering, 2006). However, these methods can be applied on sand or soft clay soil. Now, many studies are progressing for evaluating the stiffness characteristic of rocks and IGM. and Nam moon suk(2006) did Texas Cone Penetrometer Test for designing field penetration pile intruded at rocks and IGM. but, reliability of Texas Cone Penetration Test has confidence limits because TCPT is testing in Texas centrally, and energy dose not measure Woojin Lee, etc. (1998) did calculate Standard Penetration Test Hammer's dynamic energy efficiency by using dongjaeha analyzer. this research, we installed strain gage and accelerometer for supply existing equipment, and develop MCP that can use variety soils. this thesis, we measured energy at head and tip of Rod for evaluating energy that transport at free falling. As a result, Energy differences are occurred at head and tip of Rod.
To minimize the cost of maintenance, repair and over-design of track substructure, an accurate evaluation of strength and stiffness of the track substructure is necessary. In this study, a cone penetrometer with impact penetration rod (CPI) is developed for the evaluation of track substructure. For applicability test, the chamber and field tests were performed. As the experimental results of the CPI, dynamic cone penetration endex (DCPI), cone tip resistance ($q_c$), friction resistance ($f_s$) and friction ratio (Fr) were obtained. In the chamber test, the experimental results show reasonable values for the simulated track substructure. In the field test, the CPI clearly detects the interface between the ballast and the subgrade. Also, discontinuous layers are detected in the subgrade. It is expected that the developed CPI may be an effective tool for the evaluation of track substructure by evaluating the ballast layer by dynamic penetration and the subgrade by static penetration of the inner rod.
Gravel is commonly employed to enhance the bearing capacity of foundations and provide stable support for structures. However, effectively assessing the ground characteristics in the presence of gravel poses significant challenges. This study aims to compare the resolution of ground containing gravel using electrical resistivity, elastic wave surveys, and ground penetration radar (GPR). Nondestructive methods are applied at construction sites where soil improvement is carried out using gravel. The experiments focus on shallow depths, and the obtained results cover depths up to 2 m. Both the electrical resistivity and elastic wave techniques exhibit similar behavior in their findings, indicating comparable outcomes. However, GPR has limitations in observing the characteristics of ground with gravel. Dynamic cone-penetration tests were conducted to validate these findings. The electrical resistivity and elastic wave profiles exhibited similar behaviors in localized areas, further supporting their compatibility and reliability.
