This paper concerns a 2-axis PR type pneumatic manipulator system translating in vertical and rotating in horizontal directions. A simplified linear model is mathematically formulated similar to the pneumatic acturators in dynamic responses in order to devise an appropriate position control scheme. A PD controller preceding the on/off solenoid valve turns out not only economical but also effective in reducing rise time and amplitude of limit cycles, if its control gains are determined on the basis of frequency response. And, additional implementation of symmetric or asymmetric deadband at the PD controller output greatly helps minimize valve opening numbers, positional error, and undesirable direction-dependent property due to the gravitational load. Such a control concept is synthesized through numerical simulations and next applied to the experimental set-up, featuring enhanced positional servo characteristics.
The paper proposes a new sonic resonance test for a elastic modulus measurement which is based on time-average electronic speckle pattern interferometry(TA-ESPI) and Euler-Bernoulli equation. Previous measurement technique of elastic constant has the limitation of application for thin film or polymer material because contact to specimen affects the result. TA-ESPI has been developed as a non-contact optical measurement technique which can visualize resonance vibration mode shapes with whole-field. The maximum vibration amplitude at each vibration mode shape is a clue to find the resonance frequencies. The dynamic elastic constant of test material can be easily estimated from Euler-Bernoulli equation using the measured resonance frequencies. The proposed technique is able to give high accurate elastic modulus of materials through a simple experiment set up and analysis.
An E-OPMT(Electronically-controllable OPMT) was developed as an alternative of OPMT which could adjust the direction of the generated guided waves in a plate manually. The key idea of controlling the wave direction electronically is based on a few sets of axisymmetric figure-of-eight coils and the magnet which is located for making static omni-directionally biasing magnetic field over the patch. However, in order to explain wave phenomenon generated by this transducer, a new approach is required because there are various combinations between static biasing magnetic field and dynamic actuating magnetic field on the patch, not similar to OPMT. In this paper, the experiments were performed to understand characteristics of E-OPMT and the new theoretical analysis was set up for explaining the result.
The freight wagon with weld fabricated 1-piece bogies, which was developed to increase operating speed, reveals its difficulties in maintenance. The weld-fabricated bogies were composed of two-stage coil spring and dry friction damping mechanism. The inborn wear parts and rather complicated structure mattes bogie maintenance difficult. In order to relieve this difficulties, the application of maintenance free rubber suspension is proposed by bogie maunfacturer, Taeyang Precision Limited. This study was conducted to determine design parameters of proposed rubber suspension by means of vehicle dynamic simulation and parametric study. The target critical speed of bogie was set over 150km/h for the preparation of further speed-up of freight wagon.
The KNR(Korean National Railroad) has a speed limit regulation(130km/h) for the train passing the turnout to guarantee a safety. Since that speed is set as below the maximum commercial speed(140km/h), it has been regarded as a major factor to obstacle the total efficiency. The crossing rail part of the turnout system is formed into a antisymmetric, furthermore, there are several discontinuous part. Thus, measuring the strain signals of this part is impossible actually and it must be in the most difficult work related the turnout research. In this research, the program that can anticipate the signals at the various conditions with considering its own shape was developed and the preciousness of its results had been examined by comparing analyzed and measured ones at the other parts. The simulation was performed with varying the factors such as train speed and contact depth. As a results, it was proved that the regulation was not useless and very important guide at least up to now.
A projected 100 kW APU gas turbine rotor-bearing system has a main outer shaft, which is composed of some numbers of segmented sections for manufacturing and assembly conveniences. For a secure assembly of the segmented sections a tie shaft or inner shaft is installed inside of the outer shaft and a tensional axial preload of 50,000 N is provided to it. In this paper it is intended to set-up a sound modeling method of the APU rotor system, and particularly, the influences of the tie shaft on the rotordynamic characteristics of the entire APU gas turbine rotor-bearing system are investigated. Analysis results show that as a conservative design practice the inner tie shaft should be actively modeled in the rotordynamic analysis of the APU rotor-bearing system, and its effects on the dynamic behaviors of the outer shaft should be thoroughly design-reviewed.
This paper investigates PN code acquistion algorithm and demodulation performance of the RAKE receiver in the DS/CDMA(direct sequence code division multiple access) sysytems under a multipath fading channel with multiusers. To speed up the acquisition process, PN matched filter is applied and postdetection integration technique comable withthe dynamic threshold set method is proposed. the Maximum-Likelihood algorithmin serial fashion is able to find PN code delay estimates for the RAKE branches using sliding window in a multipath fading channel. The correct acquistion probability and mean acquistion time are used as a performance measure of the system using the Monte Carlo method. The performance of the RAKEreceiver, afte the code acquisition is achieved is the CDMA systems, is also investigated for three major combining techniques.
This paper relates to the flexural vibration analysis of slender spindle systems with multiple thin disks, supported by the ball bearings by means of the finite element method. Each system component is analytically modeled taking into account its flexibility and also the centrifugal effect especially for the disk. In order to show the rapid convergence rate and accuracy of the proposed approach, an experimental set-up is built to be versatile. In two distinct cases, its natural modes are numerically computed using only a small number of total element meshes as the shaft rotational speed is varied, and verified through experimental frequency response function obtained by the impact test.
The effectiveness of buffer cache replacement algorithms is critical to the performance of I/O systems. In this paper, we propose the degree of inter-reference gap (DIG) based block replacement scheme that retains merits of the least recently used (LRU) such as simple implementation and good cache hit ratio (CHR) for general patterns of references, and improves CHR further. In the proposed scheme, cache blocks with low DIGs are distinguished from blocks with high DIGs and the replacement block is selected among high DIGs blocks as done in the low inter-reference recency set (LIRS) scheme. Thus, by having the effect of the partitioning the cache memory dynamically based on DIGs, CHR is improved. Trace-driven simulation is employed to verified the superiority of the DIG based scheme and shows that the performance improves up to about 175% compared to the LRU scheme and 3% compared to the LIRS scheme for the same traces.
This paper proposes the control unit of a 32-bit high-performance RISC type microprocessor. This control unit controls the whole data path of target processor and on chip instruction/data caches in 4-stage pipelined scheme. For the improvement of speed, large parts of data path and control unit are designed by domino-CMOS and hard-wired circuit technology. First, in this paper, target processor's instruction set and data path are defined, and next, all signals needed to control the data path are analyzed. The decoder of control unit and clock generated logic block are implemented in DCAL(Dynamic CMOS Array Logic) with modified clock scheme for the purpose of speed up and supporting RISC processor's pipelined architecture efficiently.
