  • Dynamic Time Warping(in short DTW) is a kind of sequence comparison method. It is widely used in human speech recognition. The timing difference between two speech patterns to be compared is removed by warping the time axes of the speech pattern by minimising the time-normalised distance between them. In the process of finding the minimum time-normalised distance. the efficient method is dynamic programming problem. This paper describes the concept of dynamic time warping method, mathematical formulation and an application.

EP Based PSO Method for Solving Multi Area Unit Commitment Problem with Import and Export Constraints

  • This paper presents a new approach to solve the multi area unit commitment problem (MAUCP) using an evolutionary programming based particle swarm optimization (EPPSO) method. The objective of this paper is to determine the optimal or near optimal commitment schedule for generating units located in multiple areas that are interconnected via tie lines. The evolutionary programming based particle swarm optimization method is used to solve multi area unit commitment problem, allocated generation for each area and find the operating cost of generation for each hour. Joint operation of generation resources can result in significant operational cost savings. Power transfer between the areas through the tie lines depends upon the operating cost of generation at each hour and tie line transfer limits. Case study of four areas with different load pattern each containing 7 units (NTPS) and 26 units connected via tie lines have been taken for analysis. Numerical results showed comparing the operating cost using evolutionary programming-based particle swarm optimization method with conventional dynamic programming (DP), evolutionary programming (EP), and particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. Experimental results show that the application of this evolutionary programming based particle swarm optimization method has the potential to solve multi area unit commitment problem with lesser computation time.

Object Search Algorithm under Dynamic Programming in the Tree-Type Maze

  • This paper presents the target object search algorithm under Dynamic Programming (DP) in the Tree-type maze. We organized an experimental environment with the concatenation of Y-shape diverged way, small mobile robot, and a target object. By the principle of optimality, the backbone of DP, an agent recognizes that a given whole problem can be solved whether the values of the best solution of certain ancillary problem can be determined according to the principle of optimality. In experiment, we used two different control algorithms: a left-handed method and DP. Finally we verified the efficiency of DP in the practical application using our real robot.

  • 게임 법에서 NPC들이 목표 위치로 이동하기 위하여 A* 알고리즘을 비롯한 다양한 알고리즘들을 이용하여 탐색해 왔다. 그 중 가장 많이 사용하는 알고리즘은 탐색속도가 빠른 A*이다. 그러나 A*에는 다음과 같은 문제점들을 가지고 있다. 첫 번째는 무작위로 변화하는 법에서는 변할 때마다 모든 계산을 다시 해야하며 잘못될 경우에는 목표를 찾지 못할 경우도 있다. 두 번째는 장애물 같이 NPC에 피해를 입히는 위험요소들이 위치하는 곳을 피하여 이동하기가 힘이 든다. 물론 위험 요소들에게 가중치를 부여하며 가중치가 높은 곳은 이동하지 않게도 할 수 있지만 위험 요소들의 근처에 이동하는 경우에는 제어하기 힘이 든다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 Dynamic Programming을 이용하여 길찾기 알고리즘에 적용하였다. 적용한 결과 무작위로 변화하는 맵 상의 변화에 잘 적응하였으며, NPC들이 자신의 위험 요소들을 멀리 피해가는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 A*와 비교에서도 좋은 결과가 나왔다.

Institutional Applications of Eclipse Scripting Programming Interface to Clinical Workflows in Radiation Oncology

  • Eclipse Scripting Application Programming Interface (ESAPI) was devised to enhance the efficiency in such treatment related workflows as contouring, treatment planning, plan quality measure, and data-mining by communicating with the treatment planning system (TPS). It is provided in the form of C# programming based toolbox, which could be modified to fit into the clinical applications. The Scripting program, however, does not offer all potential functionalities that the users intend to develop. The shortcomings can be overcome by combining the Scripting programming with user-executable program on Windows or Linux. The executed program has greater freedom in implementation, which could strengthen the ability and availability of the Scripting on the clinical applications. This work shows the use of the Scripting programming throughout the simple modification of the given toolbox. Besides, it presents the implementation of combining both Scripting and user-executed programming based on MATLAB, applied to automated dynamic MLC wedge and FIF treatment planning procedure for promoting the planning efficiency.

Recognizing Hand Digit Gestures Using Stochastic Models

  • A simple efficient method of spotting and recognizing hand gestures in video is presented using a network of hidden Markov models and dynamic programming search algorithm. The description starts from designing a set of isolated trajectory models which are stochastic and robust enough to characterize highly variable patterns like human motion, handwriting, and speech. Those models are interconnected to form a single big network termed a spotting network or a spotter that models a continuous stream of gestures and non-gestures as well. The inference over the model is based on dynamic programming. The proposed model is highly efficient and can readily be extended to a variety of recurrent pattern recognition tasks. The test result without any engineering has shown the potential for practical application. At the end of the paper we add some related experimental result that has been obtained using a different model - dynamic Bayesian network - which is also a type of stochastic model.

  • A mathematical model for a dynamic capacitate facility location problem is formulated by a mixed integer problem. The objective of the model is to minimize total discounted costs that include fixed charges and distributed costs. The Cross Decomposition method of Van Roy is extended and applied to solve the dynamic capacitated facility location problem. The method unifies Benders Decomposition and Lagrangean relaxation into a single framework. It successively solves a transportation problem and a dynamic uncapacitated facility location problem as two subproblems. Computational results are compared with those of general mixed integer programming.

  • Quality function deployment (QFD) is a useful method in product design and development to maximize customer satisfaction. In the QFD, the technical attributes (TAs) affecting the product performance are identified, and product performance is improved to optimize customer requirements (CRs). For product development, determining the optimal levels of TAs is crucial during QFD optimization. Many optimization methods have been proposed to obtain the optimal levels of TAs in QFD. In these studies, the levels of TAs are assumed to be continuous while they are often taken as discrete in real world application. Another assumption in QFD optimization is that the requirements of the heterogeneous customers can be generalized and hence only one house of quality (HoQ) is used to connect with CRs. However, customers often have various requirements and preferences on a product. Therefore, a product market can be partitioned into several market segments, each of which contains a number of customers with homogeneous preferences. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes an optimization approach to find the optimal set of TAs under multi-segment market. Dynamic Programming (DP) methodology is developed to maximize the overall customer satisfaction for the market considering the weights of importance of different segments. Finally, a case study is provided for illustrating the proposed optimization approach.

주행문제를 위한 최신 근사적 동적계획법의 적용 (Application of Recent Approximate Dynamic Programming Methods for Navigation Problems)

  • 주행문제는 불확실한 외란의 영향을 받는 이동로봇 등의 시스템에 대하여 각종 제약조건들을 만족하도록 하는 제어 입력을 결정하는 과제를 포함한다. 이러한 과제는 제약조건을 갖는 확률 제어 문제로 모델링될 수 있다. 이러한 종류의 제어문제를 풀기 위하여, 최적 가치함수 개념에 의존하는 동적 계획법의 활용을 시도해볼 수 있다. 하지만, 대부분의 실제 문제에서 이러한 시도는 많은 어려움, 예컨대, 시스템의 완벽한 모델이 알려지지 않거나, 최적 제어정책을 구하기 위한 계산이 불가능하거나, 수없이 많은 계산 자원을 필요로 하는 등의 문제점을 안겨줄 수 있다. 이러한 동적 계획법의 어려움을 극복하기 위한 전략으로, 근사적 가치함수에 의존하여 준최적 제어정책을 구하는 근사적 동적 계획법을 사용할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 최근에 제시된 근사 동적 계획법들을 복잡한 제약조건을 갖는 주행 문제에 적용하여 보고 그 결과로 얻어지는 성능 특성을 관찰해 본다.

동적계획법과 적응 비용 변환을 이용한 영상 모자이크의 seam-line 결정 (Seam-line Determination in Image Mosaicking using Adaptive Cost Transform and Dynamic Programming)

  • 영상 모자이크 작업에서 두 영상 간의 경계선이 보이지 않는 최적의 seam-line을 구하기 위해 화소값 차이 변환과 동적계획법 이용 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 영상 간의 경계선은 두 영상의 화소값 차이가 적은 화소를 따라 형성되는 것이 시각적 부담이 적다. 이 화소들을 연결하는 것은 최적 경로를 찾는 알고리즘을 이용할 수 있다. 최적 경로 결정에 효과적인 동적계획법을 seam-line 결정에 직접 적용하변 화소값의 차이뿐만 아니라, seam-line의 길이에 따라 영향을 받는 거리영향문제가 발생한다. 이 논문에서는 적응적 변환함수를 사용하여 비용 변환을 수행하고, 변환된 비용공간 상에서 동적계획법을 적용하여 거리영향이 억제된 최적 seam-line을 구할 수 있는 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한 결정된 seam-line을 평가하기 위해 일정한 개수의 상위 화소값의 차이를 누적한 값(SFBPD)을 척도로 제시하였다. 제안한 seam-line 결정방법을 다양한 종류의 영상에 대해 적용 실험하였으며, 시각적 및 SBPD 값에 의한 수치적 결과를 제시하였다.
