The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of train-induced end rotation of simple supported track girder on the performance of a direct fixation track system (DFTS) in Yeongjong grand bridge. In this study, the influences of deflection of a DFTS and track girder on dynamic rail-track girder interaction forces for the track girder ends currently employed in airport express lines were assessed by performing field tests using actual vehicles running along the service lines. Therefore, the dynamic displacement of rail and track girder and the fastener stress on the center and ends sections of DFTS were measured for two different trains (AREX and KTX) running in Yeongjong grand bridge. A three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) model using the time-history function based on the design wheel load was used to predict the train-induced track and track girder displacement, and the FEA and field test results were compared. The analytical results reproduced the experimental results well within about 3-7% difference in the values. Therefore, the FEA model of DFTS on track girder is considered to provide sufficiently reliable FEA results in the investigation of the behavior of DFTS. Using the analytical and experimental results, the influence of train-induced end rotation of simple supported track girder on the interaction behavior of rail and track girder installed on a simple supported track girder ends, i.e., upward displacement of rail-track girder and the fastener stress, was investigated. It was found that the train-induced end rotation effect of track girder was not significantly affected by the upward displacement of rails and the fastener stresses of track girder ends. Further, the interaction behavior of rail and track girder were similar to or less than that of the general railway bridge deck ends, nevertheless the vertical displacement of track was higher than that of conventional DFTS on the general railway bridge. From the results, the dynamic responses of the DFTS on track girder ends were not significantly affected by the safety and stability of DFTS ends.
The pile-supported wharf is the port structure in which the upper deck is supported by piles or columns. By installing batter piles in this structure, horizontal load such as earthquake loads can be partially delivered as axial forces. The codes suggests using the response spectrum analysis as a preliminary design method for seismic design of pile-supported wharf, and suggests modeling the piles using virtual fixed points or soil spring methods for this analysis. Recently, several studies have been conducted on pile-supported wharves composed of vertical piles to derive a modeling method that appropriately simulates the dynamic response of structures during response spectrum analysis. However, studies related to the response spectrum analysis of pile-supported wharves with batter piles are insufficient so far. Therefore, this study performed the dynamic centrifuge model test and response spectrum analysis to evaluate the seismic performance according to the modeling method of pile-supported wharves with batter piles. As a result of test and analysis, it is confirmed that modeling using the Terzaghi (1955) constant of horizontal subgrade reaction (nh) most appropriately simulates the actual response in the case of the pile-supported wharf with batter piles.
This study configuration Vector Control System which is stable and has outstanding Dynamic Characteristics in Very Low Speed Region and Low Speed Region, and proposes Instantaneous Speed Observer and Very Low Speed Control method and vector control system of the speed estimation a using Reduced-Dimensional State Observer. The Observer proposed in this system, by appling Reduced-Dimensional State Observer to Load-Torque estimation and using for speed estimation, implements system composition simply and is capable of accurate Instantaneous Speed estimation in Very Low Speed Region. Also, this study reduces influence by System Noise and suggests an induction motor speed control system which is effective in Load Disturbance, modeling error, estimation noise and so on without changing pole of an Observer.
For economical earthquake resistant design of cable-stayed bridge tower, the use of energy dissipation systems for the earthquake protection of steel structures represents an alternative seismic design method where the tower structure could be constructed to dissipate a large amount of earthquake input energy through inelastic deformations in certain positions, which could be easily retrofitted after damage. The design of energy dissipation systems for bridges could be achieved as the result of two conflicting requirements: no damage under serviceability limit state load condition and maximum dissipation under ultimate limit state load condition. A new concept for cable-stayed bridge tower seismic design that incorporates sacrificial link scheme of low yield point steel horizontal beam is introduced to enable the tower frame structure to remain elastic under large seismic excitation. A nonlinear dynamic analysis for the tower model with the proposed energy dissipation systems is carried out and compared to the response obtained for the tower with its original configuration. The improvement in seismic performance of the tower with supplemental passive energy dissipation system has been measured in terms of the reduction achieved in different response quantities. Obtained results show that the proposed energy dissipation system of low yield point steel seismic link could strongly enhance the seismic performance of the tower structure where the tower and the overall bridge demands are significantly reduced. Low yield point steel seismic link effectively reduces the damage of main structural members under earthquake loading as seismic link yield level decreases due their exceptional behavior as well as its ability to undergo early plastic deformations achieving the concentration of inelastic deformation at tower horizontal beam.
The characteristics of boundary layers have significant effects on the aerodynamic forces and vibration of the wind turbine blade. The incorporation of active trailing edge flaps (ATEF) into wind turbine blades has been proven as an effective control approach for alleviation of load and vibration. This paper is aimed at investigating the effects of external trailing edge flaps on the flow pattern and velocity distribution within a boundary layer of a NREL 5MW reference wind turbine, as well as designing a new type of velocity sensors for future validation measurements. An aeroelastic-aerodynamic simulation with FAST-AeroDyn code was conducted on the entire wind turbine structure and the modifications were made on turbine blade sections with ATEF. The results of aeroelastic-aerodynamic simulations were combined with the results of two-dimensional computational fluid dynamic simulations. From these, the velocity profile of the boundary layer as well as the thickness variation with time under the influence of a simplified load case was calculated for four different blade-flap combinations (without flap, with $-5^{\circ}$, $0^{\circ}$, and $+5^{\circ}$ flap). In conjunction with the computational modeling of the characteristics of boundary layers, a bio-inspired hair flow sensor was designed for sensing the boundary flow field surrounding the turbine blades, which ultimately aims to provide real time data to design the control scheme of the flap structure. The sensor element design and performance were analyzed using both theoretical model and finite element method. A prototype sensor element with desired bio-mimicry responses was fabricated and validated, which will be further refined for integration with the turbine blade structures.

The movable bracket structure, which is an apparatus for supplying electric power to a running electric locomotive, is applied by a repeated load during the passage of the electric locomotive. Such a repeated load becomes an excitation source that causes screws constituting the movable bracket structure to be loosened. This study was conducted on the causes and countermeasures of the bolt loosening caused by the repeated vibration using a computer simulation. As the result, a simulation model was constructed to enable the dynamic analysis of the movable bracket structure. It could be found that the principal excitation frequency range for the bolt loosening of the movable bracket structure was less than 200 Hz. In addition, the bolts are prevented from being loosened by increasing stiffness of H beams. The vibration mode of a lower band bracket is found to be triggered in a frequency range between 300 and 600 Hz. And the increase in stiffness of the lower band bracket exhibits the effect to avoid the bolt loosening at a frequency range of 200 Hz or more.

Breakaway support for small signs of size $0.293\;m^2{\sim}0.360\;m^2$ using indented tube type bolt of D12 mm with 6 mm inner diameter has been developed and the structural strength of the support system for the wind load was verified through static shear and tension tests. One important value in understanding the dynamic behavior of sign post and impact vehicle is the fracture energy of the sign support. In this study, fracture energy needed to break the sign support was estimated by pendulum test and computer simulation using LS-DYNA program. Support system composed of 3 indented bolts was found to sustain the 43.1 kg$\sim$51.2 kg wind load safely. Fracture energy for one indented bolt was measured as 163.3J from the pendulum test, and was calculated as 153J from the LS-DYNA simulation. The closeness between these two values verified the validity of the simulation model.
Through this study, a conceptual design for the next generation high-speed EMU has been derived to meet the crash worthiness requirements of the Korean rollingstock safety regulation. The crashworthiness regulations require some performance requirements for two heavy collision accident scenarios; a train-to-train collision at the relative speed of 36 km/h, and a collision against a standard deformable obstacle of 15 ton at 110km/h. The complete train set will be composed of 2TC-6M with 13 ton axle load, which is different from KTX with the power car of 17 ton axle load. Using theoretical and numerical analyses, a crashworthy conceptual design was derived in terms of mean crush forces and energy absorptions for principal crushable structures and devices. The derived conceptual design was evaluated and improved using one dimensional dynamic simulations for the bar-spring-damper-mass model. It is shown from the simulation results that the suggested conceptual design can easily satisfy domestic crashworthiness requirements.

In this paper, we propose over-reporting avoidance scheme which avoids congestion of network traffics by adjusting managed system's over-reporting, on the OSI network management model which reports events from managed system to managing system. In case of reporting events from managed system to managing system, management traffic concentration occurs, and it causes over-loading on the managing system and congestion on the network. This scheme takes advantage of feedback from managing system to managed system. Managed system transmits event reports as much as maximum event pertime allocated to itself to managing system, and it sets it's management variables to LOCK state and stops event reports as Threshold time is reached. At the time, managing system directs event reports again by using M-set primitive with referring it's status. With this scheme, distributed processing, dynamic network adaptation, convergence of optimal operation point is possible. In addition to it, a fairness is assured. In order to detect characteristics of the Unary feedback over-reporting avoidance scheme. It is observed a control capability of the event reporting and fairness of each nodes through measuring. ThresholdTime value. It is measured a number of mean activating nodes and maintained time of LOCK state according to event reporting load, and also measured lost ratio of management packet, queuing delay in managing system, and goodput to observe effects of general packet load. Binary feedback scheme. Unary feedback overreporting avoidance scheme and raw scheme on the OSI network management system each are compared and analyzed, and finally proved that the scheme proposed in this study performs better.
V2G (Vehicle to Grid) technology for an EV (Electric Vehicle) has been assumed as so promising in a near future for its useful energy resource concept but still yet to be developed around the world for specific service purposes through various R&BD projects. Basically, V2G returns power stored in vehicle at a cheaper or unused time to the grid at more expensive or highly peaked time, and is accordingly supposed to provide such roles like peak shaving or load levelling according to customer load curve, frequency regulation or ancillary reserves, and balancing power fluctuation to grid from the weather-sensitive renewable sources like wind or solar generations. However, it has recently been debated over its prominent usage as diffusing EVs and the required charging/discharging infrastructure, partially for its addition of EV ownership costs with more frequent charging/discharging events and user inconvenience with a relative long-time participation in the previously engaged V2G program. This study suggests that a Korean DR (Demand Response) service integrated V2G system especially based upon a dynamic charge/pause/discharge scheme newly proposed to ISO/IEC 15118 rev. 2 can deal with these concerns with more profitable business model, while fully making up for the additional component (ex. battery) and service costs. It also indicates that the optimum economic, environmental, and grid impacts can be simulated for this V2G-DR service particularly designed for EV aggregators (V2G service providers) by proposing a specific V2G engagement program for the mediated DR service providers and the distributed EV owners.
