To evaluate the behavior of the advanced unbonded pre-stressed concrete containment vessel (UPCCV) for one typical China nuclear power plant under Japan's March 11 earthquake, five nonlinear time history analysis and a nonlinear static analysis of a 1:10 scale UPCCV structure have been carried out with MSC.MARC finite element program. Comparisons between the analytical and experimental results demonstrated that the developed finite element model can predict the earthquake behavior of the UPCCV with fair accuracy. The responses of the 1:10 scale UPCCV subjected to the 11 March 2011 Japan earthquakes recorded at the MYG003 station with the peak ground acceleration (PGA) of 781 gal and at the MYG013 station with the PGA of 982 gal were predicted by the dynamic analysis. Finally, a static analysis was performed to seek the ultimate load carrying capacity for the 1:10 scale UPCCV.

In the trackbed design using elastic multi-layer model, the stress-dependent resilient modulus is an important input parameter, which reflects substructure performance under repeated traffic loading. The resilient moduli of crushed stone and weathered granite soil were developed using nonlinear dynamic stiffness, which can be measured by in-situ and laboratory seismic tests. The prediction models of resilient modulus varying with the deviatoric or bulk stress were proposed (Park et al., 2008). To investigate the performance of the prediction models proposed herein, the elastic response of the test trackbed near PyeongTaek, Korea was evaluated using a 3-D nonlinear elastic computer program (GEOTRACK) and compared with measured elastic vertical displacement during the passages of freight and passenger trains. The material types of the test sub-ballasts are crushed stone and weathered granite soil, respectively. The calculated vertical displacements within the sub-ballasts are within the order of 1mm, and agree well with measured values with the reasonable margin. The prediction models are thus concluded to work properly in the preliminary investigation. The prediction models proposed for resilient modulus were verified by the comparison of the calculated vertical displacements with measured ones during train passages.

This study addressed security requirements for ad-hoc network environments, which lies at the hour of the ubiquitous computing revolution and proposed a partially-distributed certificate management system that can ensure security in mobile ad-hoc networks. The proposed model is characterized by ie ability to handle dynamic mobility of nodes, minimize routing load and enhance expandability of network by allowing participating nodes to authenticate each other without being interrupted by joining the cluster. The security, efficiency and robustness of the proposed model were evaluated through simulation.
Recently, environmental vibration by train operation has been getting such an attention that the ISO puts it into the environmental vibration regulation. However, the reasonable and efficient countermeasures against such a kind of vibration is not well established, especially in residential areas near the railroad. Therefore, it is very important to estimate the ground vibration induced by the train operation for the design and construction of track supporting structures as well as structures near the track. In this study a model estimating dynamic load on track due to train operation and analysis technique of propagation of ground vibration were developed. Futhermore, the estimated vibration from this model was compared with the actual measurement data in the field and found to be reasonably acceptable.

Structural modifications of a ship may cause a fatal accident such as sinking and wrecking of ship. Especially, barge ship can be easily reconstructed to load more bulk cargo. In this study, for a real accident case, change of mooring force due to structural modification was analyzed to evaluate accident risk. A two dimensional dynamic model for the barge ship was constructed to compute mooring forces with related to floating motion. The equation of motion was established in Matlab code and buoyancy was calculated by using direct integration of submerged volume. The results showed that wind force, current force, and mooring force after rebuilding was approximately 4.3 kN, 14 kN, 1,561 kN respectively. The maximum force of mooring force according to the length of mooring cable were 1,614 kN at 30 m of mooring cable. Thus, an arbitrary modification of ship lead instability and unreliable result so that illegal rebuilding of ship should be avoided.

Each tire has a critical speed at which a standing wave phenomenon occurs along the circumferential direction. If the standing waves are formed, the tire temperature is rapidly increased and it leads to tire failure eventually. As the formation of the standing waves is closely related to the tire stiffness, the effect of the tread pattern needs to be studied numerically. The standing wave phenomenon of a tire model with tread pattern is predicted by an explicit finite element method. The critical speed of the tire with tread pattern is in a good agreement with the experiment and is $15{\sim}20\;km/h$ lower than that of the tire without tread pattern. The effects of the inflation pressure and the vertical load on the critical speed are also investigated by using the tire model with tread pattern.

This paper proposed a technique of structural re-analysis for the evaluation of dynamic responses of bridge structure under moving loads using experimental modal results. For successful structural re-analysis, it is required to have accurate estimation techniques of the modal characteristics of bridge structures. The natural frequencies and mode shapes were identified by direct fourier analysis techniques and damping ratios by the random decrement method, respectively. An interpolation method was also proposed for the extension of mode shape measured on limited DOFs. Second, the structural reanalysis was performed using moving mass model and identified modal parameters. The results from the reanalysis show that the proposed technique is very reasonable to evaluate the actual behavior of bridge structures under moving loads.
It is known that tire plays an important role to the dynamic performances of a vehicle such as noise, vibration, ride and handling. Therefore, force and moment measurements have been a part of the traditional tire engineering process. In this paper, a computational analysis technique has been explored. A FE model is made to simulate inflation, vertical load due to the vehicle weight, and the slow rolling of a radial tire. A rigid surface with Coulomb friction is included in the model to simulate the slow rolling contact. The tire slip during the in-plane motion of the rigid surface is calculated. Results are presented for both lateral and vertical loads, as well as straight ahead free rolling. The calculated and measured tire slips are in good correlation. A Study on slow Rolling Tire for perdiction of tire Forces and Moments.
Cracked reinforced concrete in compression has been observed to exhibit lower strength and stiffness than uniaxially compressed concrete. The so-called compression softening effect responsible is thought to be related to the degree of transverse cracking and straining present. It significantly affects the strength, ductility and load-deformation response of a concrete element. A number of experimental investigations have been undertaken to determine the degree of softening that occurs, and the factors that affect it. At the same time, a number of diverse analytical models have been proposed by various this behavior. In this paper, the softened truss model thoery for low-rise structural shearwalls is employed using the principle of the stress and strain transformations. Using this theory the softening parameters for the concrete struts proposed by Hsu and Belarbi as well as by Vecchio and Collins are examined by 51 test shearwalls available in literature. It is found that the experimental shear strengths and ductilities of the walls under static loads are, in average, very close to the theoretical values; however, the experiment shear strengths and ductilities of the walls under dynamic loads with a low (0.2 Hz) frequency are generally less than the theoretical values.
this paper presents an implementation of digital control system of speed sensorless for Reluctance Synchronous Motor (RSM) drives with direct torque control (DTC). The problem of DTC for high-dynamic performance RSM drive is generating a nonlinear torque due to a saturated nonlinear inductance curve with various load currents. The control system consists of stator flux observer, compensating inductance look-up table, rotor position/speed/torque estimator, two hysteresis band controllers, an optimal switching look-up table, IGBT voltage source unverter, and TMS320C31 DSP controller. The stator flux observer is based on the combined voltage and current model with stator flux feedback adapitve control that inputs are the compensated inductances, current and voltage sensing of motor terminal with estimated rotor angle for wide speed range. The rotor position is estimated rotor speed is determined by differentiation of the rotor position used only in the current model part of the flux observer for a low speed operation area. It does not requrie the knowledge of any montor paramenters, nor particular care for moter starting, In order to prove the suggested control algorithm, we have simulation and testing at actual experimental system. The developed sensorless control system is showing a good speed control response characterisitic result and high performance features in 20/1500 rpm with 1.0Kw RSM having 2.57 ratio of d/q reluctance.
