  • The recent manufacturing process in the thin wafers and flat panel necessitate new approaches to reduce handling fragile and surface-sensitive damage of components. This paper presents a new pneumatic levitation for non-contact handling of parts and substrates. This levitation can achieve non-contact handling by blowing air into an air pressure pick-up head with radial passages to generate a negative pressure region. Negative pressure is caused by the radial air flow by nozzle throat and through holes connecting to the bottom region. The numerical analysis deals with the levitational motion with different design factors. The dynamic motion is examined in terms of force balance(dynamic equilibrium) occurring to the flow field between two objects. The stable equilibrium position and the safe separation distance are determined by analyzing the local pressure distribution in the fluid motion. They make considerable design factors consisting the air pressure pick-up head. As a result, in case that the safe separation distance is beyond 0.7mm, the proposed pick-up head can levitate stably at the equilibrium position. Furthermore, it can provide little effect of torque, and obtain more wide picking region according to the head size.

  • Dynamic behaviors and stability of an optical disk drive coupled with an automatic ball balancer (ABB) are analyzed by a theoretical approach. The feeding system is modeled a rigid body with six degree-of-freedom. Using Lagrange's equation, we derive the nonlinear equations of motion for a non -autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of the equilibrium positions, the monodromy matrix technique is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by the Runge -Kutta method. We also investigate the effects of the damping coefficient and the position of ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.

  • In a flexible multi-body dynamic system the typical topological optimization method for structures cannot be directly applied, as the stiffness varies with position. In this paper, the topological optimization of the flexible multi-body dynamic system is converted into structural optimization using the equivalent static load method. First, the actual boundary conditions of the control system and the approximate stiffness curve of the mechanism are obtained from a flexible multi-body dynamical simulation. Second, the finite element models are built using the absolute nodal coordination for different positions according to the stiffness curve. For efficiency, the static reanalysis method is utilized to solve these finite element equilibrium equations. Specifically, the finite element equilibrium equations of key points in the stiffness curve are fully solved as the initial solution, and the following equilibrium equations are solved using a reanalysis method with an error controlled epsilon algorithm. In order to identify the efficiency of the elements, a non-dimensional measurement is introduced. Finally, an improved evolutional structural optimization (ESO) method is used to solve the optimization problem. The presented method is applied to the optimal design of a die bonder. The numerical results show that the presented method is practical and efficient when optimizing the design of the mechanism.

  • This paper presents an algorithm which seeks steady-state equilibrium positions of constrained multibody systems driven by constant generalized speeds. Since the relative coordinates are employed, the constraint equations at cut joints are incorporated into the formulation. The proposed algorithm leads to nonlinear equations that need to be solved iteratively. This algorithm should satisfy both types of conditions: the force equilibrium equations and the kinematic constraint equations. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, two numerical examples are solved and the results are compared with those of a commercial program. This method, compared to the conventional method of using dynamic analysis, has the advantage of computational efficiency and stability.

  • The equilibrium molecular-dynamic simulations have been performed to estimate the properties of the three kinds of fluids confined between two plates that are separated by 1.086 nm; included in the statical properties are the density distribution and the static structure, and the autocorrelation velocity function in the dynamic property. Three kinds of fluids considered in this study are the Lennard-Jones fluid, water and aqueous sodium-chloride solution. The water molecules are modeled by using the SPC/E model and the ions by the charged Lennard-Jones particle model. To treat the water molecules, we combined the quaternion coordinates with Euler angles. We also proposed a plausible algorithm to assign the initial position and direction of molecules. The influence of polarization of water molecules as well as the presence of ions in the solution on the properties will be addressed in this study. In addition, we performed the non-equilibrium molecular-dynamic simulation to compute the flow velocity for the case with the gravitational force acting on molecules.

  • In this paper, fluttering behavior of mechanical monoleaflet tilting disc heart valve prostheses during the opening phase was analyzed taking into consideration the impact between the occluder and the guiding strut at the fully open position. The motion of the valve occluder was modeled as a rotating system, and equations were derived by employing the moment equilibrium principle. Forces due to lift, drag, gravity and buoyancy were considered as external forces acting on the occluder. The 4th order Runge-Kutta method was used to solve the governing equations. The results iimonstrated that the occludes reaches steady equilibrium position only after damped vibration. Fluttering frequency varies as a function of time after opening and is in the range of 8-84 Hz. Valve opening appears to be affected by the orientation of the valve relative to gravitational force. The opening velocities are in the range of 0.65-1.42m/sec and the dynamic loads by impact of the occludes and the strut are in the range of 90-190 N.

Lift force, drag force, gravity and buoyancy were considered as external forces acting on the valve plate/ The 4th order Runge-Kutta method was used to solve the equations. Valve plate does not come to the static equilibrium position at a stretch, but come to that position after under damping vibration. Damping ratio increases as the cardiac optput increases, and the mean damping ratio is in the range of 0.16~40.25. Fluttering frequency does not have any specific value, but varies as a function of time. It is in the range of 10~40Hz. Valve opening appears to be affected by the orientation of the of the valve relative to gravitational forces.

  • We explored the dynamic motions and the lateral equilibrium positions of an elastic capsule in channel flow at moderate Reynolds number varying Re, aspect ratio, size ratio, membrane stretching and bending coefficient. The transition of tank-treading/swinging to tumbling motion was observed in the simulations and the transition of dynamic motions for capsules resulted in different trend of the variation in the lateral equilibrium positions. Though other conditions were similar, the capsule with tumbling motion migrated closer to the wall than that with tank-treading motion.

  • In this paper, we consider with a market pioneering game among symmetric firms in highly competitive situation. To describe the puzzling situation of timing competition, we construct a dynamic game model and explore the equilibrium solution. As a result, we find a subgame perfect mixed strategy Nash equilibrium conceptually defined by 't$_{0}$ + .elsilon. equilibrium'. Our major finding s include : i) market entry will be occurred in sequential manner even though the condition of each firm is symmetric ii) the optimal timing of market pioneering will be advanced until almost all of the monopolist's profit is dissipated, iii) as the market position of the pioneer is stronger, the timings of the pioneer and the follower are separated, iv) and as the slope of the profit flow is steeper, the entry timing of the two players will be pooled together.
