This paper presents results on dynamic analysis of the missile initial motion arising from the missile detent force. Using ADAMS (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Syatem) software, a non- linear46-DOF (Degree of Freedom) model is developed for the launcher system including missile and lunch tube contact problem. From the dynamic analysis, it is found that initial angular velocity of the missile incre- ases when the missile detent force increases and also when rocket exhaust plume is taken into account. To achieve the missile launching stability, it needs to reduce the missile initial detent force and exhaust plume area of the lancher. Results of the dynamic analysis on the system natural frequency agree well with those obtained from experimental modal tests. The overall results suggest that the proposed method is a useful tool for prediction of initial missile stability as well as design of the missile launcher system.
In this study an improved design method for the traditional A-type(or V-type) offshore template platform system was proposed to mitigate the vibration induced by the marine environmental loadings and the strong ground motions of earthquakes. A newly developed material model was combined into the structural system and then a nonlinear dynamic analysis in the time domain was carried out. The analysis was focused on the displacement and rotation induced by the input wave forces and ground motions, and the mitigation effect for these responses was evaluated when the viscoelastic damping devices were applied. The wave forces exerted on the offshore structures are based on Stokes fifth-order wave theory and Morison equation for small body. A step by step integration method was modified and used in the nonlinear analysis. It was found that the new design approach enhanced with viscoelastic dampers was efficient on the vibration mitigation for the structural system subjected to both the wave motion and the strong ground motion.
Equations of motion of an engine mount system including foundation flexibility are derived. Forced vibration analysis is carried out for the given engine mount system excited with the unbalanced force and moment. A new optimal design method for the engine mount system is proposed, in which vibration characteristics of the chassis frame structure are considered as design parameters.
The reliability-based seismic design of steel frames is a complex process that incorporates seismic demand with a structural capacity to attain safe buildings aligned with specified constraints. This paper introduces an efficient base shear force formulation to support the reliability-based design process of steel frames. The introduced base shear force equation combines the seismic demand statistics with the reliability objective to calculate a fictitious base shear force for linear static analysis. By concentrating on the seismic demand and promising to meet a certain level of reliability, the equation converts the reliability-based seismic design problem to a deterministic one. Two code-compliant real-size steel moment frames are developed according to different reliability objectives to demonstrate the competency of the proposed formula. The nonlinear dynamic analysis method is used to assess the seismic reliability of the constructed frames, and the numerical results validate the credibility of the suggested formulation. The base shear force calculation method regarding seismic reliability is the main finding of this study. The ease of use makes this approach a potent tool for design professionals and stakeholders to make rapid risk-informed decisions regarding steel moment frame design.

Dynamic analysis of a vehicle-track coupling system is important to structural design, damage detection and condition assessment of the structural system. Deterministic analysis of the vehicle-track coupling system has been extensively studied in the past, however, the structural parameters of the coupling system have uncertainties in engineering practices. It is essential to treat the parameters of the vehicle-track coupling system with consideration of uncertainties. In this paper, a method for predicting the bounds of the vehicle-track coupling system responses with uncertain parameters is presented. The uncertain system parameters are modeled as fuzzy variables instead of conventional random variables with known probability distributions. Then, the dynamic response functions of the coupling system are transformed into a component function based on the high dimensional representation approximation. The Lagrange interpolation method is used to approximate the component function. Finally, the bounds of the system's dynamic responses can be predicted by using Monte Carlo method for the interpolation polynomials of the Lagrange interpolation function. A numerical example is introduced to illustrate the ability of the proposed method to predict the bounds of the system's dynamic responses, and the results are compared with the direct Monte Carlo method. The results show that the proposed method is effective and efficient to predict the bounds of the system's dynamic responses with fuzzy variables.

Code-compliant seismic design should be essentially applied to realize the so-called emulative performance of precast concrete (PC) lateral force-resisting systems, and this study developed simple procedures to design precast industrial buildings with intermediate precast bearing wall systems considering both the effect of seismic and blast loads. Seismic design provisions specified in ACI 318 and ASCE 7 can be directly adopted, for which the so-called 1.5Sy condition is addressed in PC wall-to-wall and wall-to-base connections. Various coupling options were considered and addressed in the seismic design of wall-to-wall connections for the longitudinal and transverse design directions to secure optimized performance and better economic feasibility. On the other hand, two possible methods were adopted in blast analysis: 1) Equivalent static analysis (ESA) based on the simplified graphic method and 2) Incremental dynamic time-history analysis (IDTHA). The ESA is physically austere to use in practice for a typical industrial PC-bearing wall system. Still, it showed an overestimating trend in terms of the lateral deformation. The coupling action between precast wall segments appears to be inevitably required due to substantially large blast loads compared to seismic loads with increasing blast risk levels. Even with the coupled-precast shear walls, the design outcome obtained from the ESA method might not be entirely satisfactory to the drift criteria presented by the ASCE Blast Design Manual. This drawback can be overcome by addressing the IDTHA method, where all the design criteria were fully satisfied with precast shear walls' non-coupling and group-coupling strength, where each individual or grouped shear fence was designed to possess 1.5Sy for the seismic design.
An analytical method is presented for evaluation of the steady state periodic behavior of nonlinear structural systems. This method is based on the substructure synthesis formulation and a harmonic balance procedure, which is applied to the analysis of nonlinear responses. A complex nonlinear system is divided into substructures, of which equations are approximately transformed to modal coordinates including nonlinear term under the reasonable procedure. Then, the equations are synthesized into the overall system and the nonlinear solution for the system is obtained. Based on the harmonic balance method, the proposed procedure reduces the size of large degrees-of-freedom problem in the solving nonlinear equations. Feasibility and advantages of the proposed method are illustrated using the study of the nonlinear rotating machine system as a large mechanical structure system. Results obtained are reported to be an efficient approach with respect to nonlinear response prediction when compared with other conventional methods.

Since the importance of seismic design is greater, dynamic analysis is more widely using than past. The input motion is one of the most important factors of dynamic analysis. However, in Korea input motions are selected from U.S. and Japan those are captured from large magnitude earthquakes without considering seismic environment or generated in frequency domain. In this research, the methodology for generating input motions those are considered seismic environment and design code is proposed. The seismic environment compatibility is considered by performing deaggregation and the design code compatibility is considered by time-domain artificial time history accelration generation method. The results shows that seismic environment and design code compatible input motions are successfully generated.

The design requirement for ground mounted sign structures are fairly well defined in the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaries, and Traffic Signals and consists of applying an equivalent pseudo-dynamic loading to account for the dynamic effects of wind loads and ignores the dynamic effect due to moving vehicle loads. This design approach, however, should not be applied to the design of bridge mounted sign structures because ignoring the dynamic effects of the moving vehicle loads may produce non-conservative results, since the stiffness of the bridge structure can greatly influence the behavior. Not enough information is available in the literatures which provide guide lines to include the influence of moving vehicles in the design of the bridge mounted sign structures. This paper describes a theoretical methodology, Bridge-Vehicle Interaction Element, which can be utilized to account for the dynamic effect of moving vehicles. A case study is also included where this methodology was successfully applied. It was concluded that the bridge-vehicle interaction finite element developed can provide a more accurate representation of the behavior of bridge mounted sign structures. The result of these analysis enabled development of simple and effective retrofitting scheme for the existing support system of bridge-mounted-structure.

In this paper, the dynamic response of the pantograph system that supplies electrical power to a high-speed rail vehicle were investigated. The analyses of the catenary based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) is executed to develop a pantograph fits well in high-speed focused on the dynamic characteristic analysis of the pantograph system. By simulation of the pantograph-catenary system, the static deflection of the catenary, the stiffness variation in contact lines, the dynamic response of the catenary undergoing constant moving load and the contact force analysis were executed. By the pantograph-catenary analysis, the design parameters of a pantograph could be optimized. For more improving the dynamic characteristics of the pantograph, the active-pantograph was investigated by controlling a contact force. The active pantograph showed the better performance compared to the parameter-optimized. However, the parameter-optimized pantograph would be acceptable for a high-speed rail vehicle through the design-parameter analysis.
