In this study, fire-damaged concrete was investigated by a nonlinear resonance vibration (NRV) technique, in order to evaluate its residual material properties. For the experiments, five cubic concrete specimens were prepared and four of them were damaged at different temperatures using a furnace. With a thermal insulator wrapped at the sides of specimen, thermal gradation was applied to the samples. According to the peak temperatures and depths of the samples, nonlinearity parameters were calculated with the NRV technique before the tendency of the parameters was evaluated. In addition, compressive strength and dynamic elastic modulus were measured for each sample and a comparison with the nonlinearity parameter was carried out. Through the experimental results, the possibility of the NRV technique as a method for evaluating residual material properties was evaluated.

Dynamic compressive material properties at high strain rates is essential for improving the reliability of finite element analysis in dynamic environments, such as high-speed collisions and high-speed forming. In general, the dynamic compressive material properties for high strain rates can be obtained through SHPB equipment. In this study, SHPB equipment was used to acquire the dynamic compressive material properties to cope with the collision analysis of Woven tpye CFRP material, which is being recently applied to unmanned aerial vehicles. It is also used as a pulse shaper to secure a constant strain rate for materials with elastic-brittle properties and to improve the reliability of experimental data. In the case of CFRP material, since the anisotropic material has different mechanical properties for each direction, experiments were carried out by fabricating thickness and in-plane specimens. As a result of the SHPB test, in-plane specimens had difficulty in securing data reproducibility and reliability due to fracture of the specimens before reaching a constant strain rate region, whereas in the thickness specimens, the stress consistency of the specimens was excellent. The data reliability is high and a constant strain rate range can be obtained. Through finite element analysis using LS-dyna, it was confirmed that the data measured from the pressure rod were excessively predicted by the deformation of the specimen and the pressure rod.
Recent construction activities have given rise to civil petitions associated with vibration-induced damages or nuisances. To mitigate unfavorable effects of construction activities, the measures to reduce or isolate from vibration need to be adopted. In this research, a vibration-mitigated concrete, which is one of the active measures for reducing vibration in concrete structures, was investigated. Concrete was mixed with vibration-reducing materials (i.e. latex, rubber power, plastic resin, and polystyrofoam) to reduce vibration and tested to evaluate dynamic material properties and structural characteristics. Normal and high strength concrete specimens with a certain level of damage were also tested for comparisons. In addition, recycling tires and plastic materials were added to produce a vibration-reducing concrete. A total of 32 concrete bars and eight concrete beams were tested to investigate the dynamic material properties and structural characteristics. Wave measurements on concrete bars showed that vibration-mitigated concrete has larger material damping ratio than normal or high strength concrete. Styrofoam turned out to be the most effective vibration-reducing mixture. Flexural vibration tests on eight flexural concrete beams also revealed that material damping ratio of the concrete beams is much smaller than structural damping ratio for all the cases.

In this study, after concrete cylinders were made on the condition of varying water-to -cement ratio, and cured 80 days compressive strength and splitting tensile strength were performed and moduls of elasticy is obtained. The fracture energy was obtained by acting three point bending on the 80cm in length. This test involved static loading test and dynamic loading test. In this work, the new interrelation of the material constants was obtained clearly and the property of the mixture was inspected, including the relation between the fracture energy and all kind of the material constants.
Given that the conventional extrusion of high-strength Al alloys such as 7075 aluminum alloys is difficult due to their very low extrudability as compared to that of 6061 aluminum alloys, thixo-extrusion can be used to obtain a high-strength material easily at a lower extrusion pressure as compared to conventional extrusion. In this study, hot- and thixo-extruded 7075 aluminum alloys are prepared by a vertical forward extrusion process and their microstructures, hardness levels, and compressive properties are investigated. Hot-extruded alloy bars are assessed to obtain a microstructure elongated in the extrusion direction, whereas with thixo-extruded alloy bars, it was possible to obtain a microstructure having fine and equiaxed grains by dynamic recrystallization. The resulting isotropy and improved formability at the hot deformation temperature of the thixo-extruded alloy were attributed to the fine and equiaxed grains formed by the thixo-extrusion process.
The disposal of polythene waste and fly ash is causing serious threat to the environment. Aim of this study is to decrease environmental pollution by using polythene waste and fly ash in concrete. In this study, cement was partially replaced with 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% fly ash (by weight) and plastic waste was added in shredded form at 0.6% by weight of concrete. The specimens were prepared for the concrete mix of M25 grade and water to cementitious material ratio (w/c) was maintained as 0.45. Fresh concrete property like workability was examined during casting the specimens. Hardened properties were found out by carrying out the experimental work on cubes, cylinders and beams which were cast in laboratory and their behavior under test were observed at 7 & 28 days for compressive strength and at 28 days for density, flexural strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, abrasion resistance, water permeability and impact resistance. Overall results of this study show that addition of 0.6% (by weight of the concrete) plastic waste with 10% (by weight of cement) replacement of cement by fly ash result an improvement in properties of the concrete than conventional mix.

Shear wane velocity is important property for grasping the dynamic characteristics of material. It is has been used in various fields such as non-destructive testings of structures, seismic analysis of geotechnical structures and maintenance of concrete structure, and etc. Usually, shear wave velocities of rock cores and concrete cylinders are determined by free-free resonance tests, Shear wave measurement in free-free resonance tests is not straightforward, as compared with rod wave and flexural wane measurements. In This study, a new technique using resonance features of flexural and shear waves were proposed in which the nodal points for the fundamental mode of flexural waves were employed to generate and measure the shear waves with the flexural waves minimized. The real measurements for aluminum cylinders proved validity and reliability of the proposed algorithm. In addition to the proposed algorithm, the effects of material properties on elastic-wave velocities in resonance measurements were also studied. In summary, a new framework of the resonance measurements for shear-wave velocity determination was established, based on the results of this thesis.

The material for the machine tool structure should have high static stiffiness and damping in its property to improve both the static and dynamic performances. The static stiffness of a machine tool can be inceased by using either higher modulus material in the structure of a machine tool. However, the machine tool structrue with high stiffness but low damping is vulnerable to vibration at the resonance frequencies of the structure . For the high precision and highsped machine tool structure, therefore, the high damping capacity is most important in order to suppress vibration. The damping of a machine tool can not be increased by increasing the static stiffness. The best way to increase the damping capacity of the machine tool structure is to use a composite material which is composed of on material with high stiffness with low damping and another material with low stiffness with high damping. Therefore, in this paper, the bed of the ultra high precision grinding machine for mirror surface machining of brittle materials such as ceramics and composite materials was designed and manufactured with the epoxy concrete material. The epoxy concrete material was prepared by mixing epoxy resin with different size sands and gravels. The modulus, compressive strength, coefficient of thermal expansion, specific heat, and damping factor were measured by varying the compaction ratio, sizes and contents of the ingredients to assess the effect of the processing parameters on the mechanical properties of the material. Based of the measured properties, the prototype epoxy resin concrete bed for the mirror surface CNC grinding machine was designed and manufactured.

Cold gas dynamic spray is a relatively new coating process by which coatings can be produced without significant heating during the process. Cold gas dynamic spray is conducted by powder sprayed by supersonic gas jet, and generally called the kinetic spray or cold-spray. Cold-spray was developed in Russia in the early 1980s to overcome the defect of thermal spray method. Its low process temperature can minimize thermal stress and also reduce the deformation of the substrate. Most researches on cold-spray have focused on micro scale coating, but our research team tried to apply this method to macro scale deposition. The macro scale deposition causes deformation of a thin substrate which is usually convex to the deposited side. In this research, the main cause of the deformation was investigated using 6061-T6 aluminum alloy and properties of deposited aluminum layer such as coefficient of thermal expansion, Elastic modulus, hardness, electric conductivity were measured. From the result of the analysis, it was concluded that compressive residual stress was the main reason of substrate deformation while CTE had little effect.
