An accurate mathematical model for complex stiffness of the pneumatic spring would be necessary for an efficient design of a pneumatic spring used in vibration isolation tables for precision instruments such as optical devices or nano-scale equipments. A diaphragm, often employed for prevention of air leakage, plays a significant role of complex stiffness element as well as the pressurized air itself Therefore, effects of the diaphragm need to be included in the dynamic model for a more faithful description of dynamic behavior of pneumatic spring. But the complex stiffness of diaphragm is difficult to predict In an analytical way, since it is a rubber membrane of complicated shape in itself. Moreover, the diaphragm should be expandable in response to pressurization inside a chamber, which makes direct measurement of complex stiffness of diaphragm extremely difficult. In our earlier research, the complex stiffness of diaphragm was indirectly measured, which was just to eliminate the theoretical stiffness of pressurized air from the measured complex stiffness of the pneumatic spring. In order to reflect complex stiffness of inflated diaphragm on the total stiffness at the initial design or design improvement stage, however. it is required to be able to predict beforehand. In this paper, how to predict the complex stiffness of inflated rubber diaphragm by commercial FE codes (e.g. ABAQUS) will be discussed and the results will be compared with the indirectly measured values.
Accurate modeling of complex dynamic stiffness of the pneumatic springs is crucial for an efficient design of vibration isolation tables for precision instruments such as optical devices or nano-technology equipments. Besides pressurized air itself, diaphragm made of rubber materials, essentially employed for prevention of air leakage, plays a significant contribution to the total complex stiffness. Therefore, effects of the diaphragm should be taken care of precisely. The complex stiffness of an inflated diaphragm is difficult to predict or measure, since it is always working together with the pressurized air. In our earlier research, the complex stiffness of a diaphragm was indirectly estimated simply by subtracting stiffness of the pressurized air from measurement of the total complex stiffness for a single chamber pneumatic spring. In order to reflect dynamic stiffness of inflated diaphragm on the total stiffness at the initial design or design improvement stage, however, it is required to be able to predict beforehand. In this presentation, how to predict the complex stiffness of inflated rubber diaphragm by commercial FE codes(e.g. ABAQUS) will be discussed and the results will be compared with the indirectly measured values.
Recently it is increased by degrees to construct complex or large lattice type structures such as bridges, towers, cranes, and structures that can be used for space technology. In general, in order to analyze, these structures we have used the finite element method(FEM). In this method, however, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and computation time because the FEM requires many degrees of freedom for solving dynamic problems for these structures. For overcoming this problem, the authors have developed the transfer dynamic stiffness coefficient method(TDSCM). This method is based on the concepts of the transfer and the synthesis of the dynamic stiffness coefficient which is related to force and displacement vector at each node. In this paper, the authors formulate vibration analysis algorithm for a complex and large lattice type structure using the transfer of the dynamic stiffness coefficient. And the validity of TDSCM demonstrated through numerical computational and experimental results.
Complex and large lattice type structures are frequently used in design of bridge, tower, crane and aerospace structures. In general, in order to analyze these structures we have used the finite element method(FEM). This method is the most widely used and powerful tool for structural analysis. However, it is necessary to use a large amount of computer memory and computation time because the FEM resuires many degrees of freedom for solving dynamic problems exactly for these complex and large structures. For overcoming this problem, the authors developed the transfer stiffness coefficient method(TSCM). This method is based on the concept of the transfer of the nodal dynamic stiffness coefficient which is related to force and displacement vector at each node. In this paper, the authors formulate vibration analysis algorithm for a complex and large lattice type structure using the transfer of the nodal dynamic stiffness coefficient. And we confirmed the validity of TSCM through numerical computational and experimental results for a lattice type structure.
Recently, it is increased by degrees to construct complex and large structures. In general, in order to solve the dynamic problem of these structures they have used finite element method(FEM). In this method, however, it is necessary to prove whether its results are correct or not. Therefore it requires much effort, time and many expenses for dynamic analysis of complex and large structures. Authors have developed the transfer dynamic stiffness coefficient method(TDSCM) which is the new vibration analysis method for complex and large structures on personal computer, and confirmed that the results of this method are good for these structures on personal computer. In this paper, TDSCM is applied to the torsional vibration analysis for the shaft system which consist of concentrated disks and shafts of continuous body. First, we formulate algorithms for torsional free and forced vibration analysis, and compare the results of TDSCM and FEM.
Viscoelastic components for vibration isolation or shock absorption in automobiles, machines and buildings are often subject to a high level of static deformation. From the dynamic design point of view, it is requisite to predict dynamic complex stiffness of viscoelastic components accurately and efficiently. To this end, a systematic procedure for complex modulus measurement of the viscoelastic material under large static deformation is often required in the industrial fields. In this paper, dynamic test conditions and procedures for the viscoelastic material under small oscillatory load superimposed on large static deformation are discussed. Various standard test methods are investigated in order to select an adequate test methodology. The influence of fixed boundary condition in the compression tests upon complex stiffness are investigated and an effective correction technique is proposed. Then the uniaxial tension and compression tests are performed and its results are compared with analysis results from conventional constitutive models.

In this paper, we formulate forced vibration analysis algorithm for complex and large lattice type structures using extened TSCM. And we confirmed the validity of TSCM through computational results by the FEM and TSCM, and experimental results for lattice type structures with harmonic excitation.
Little attention has been paid to static-strain-dependence of dynamic complex modulus of viscolelastic materials in computational analysisso far. Current commercial Finite Element Method (FEM) codes do not take such characteristics into consideration in constitutive equations of viscoelastic materials. Recent experimental observations that static-strain-dependence of dynamic complex modulus of viscolelastic materials, especially filled rubbers, are significant, however, require that solutions somehow are necessary. In this study, a simple technique of using a commercial FEM code, ABAQUS, is introduced, which seems to be far more cost/time saving than development of a new software with such capabilities. A static-strain-dependent correction factor is used to reflect the influence of static-strains in Merman model, which is currently the base of the ABAQUS. The proposed technique is applied to viscoelastic components of rather complicated shape to predict the dynamic stiffness under static-strain and the predictions are compared with experimental results.
In this paper, dynamic stiffness and flexibility for circular membranes are analytically derived using an efficient mixed-part dual boundary element method (BEM). We employ three approaches, the complex-valued BEM, the real-part and imaginary-part BEM, to determine the dynamic stiffness and flexibility. In the analytical formulation, the continuous system for a circular membrane is transformed into a discrete system with a circulant matrix. Based on the properties of the circulant, the analytical solutions for the dynamic stiffness and flexibility are derived. In deriving the stiffness and flexibility, the spurious resonance is cancelled out. Numerical aspects are discussed and emphasized. The problem of numerical instability due to division by zero is avoided by choosing additional constraints from the information of real and imaginary parts in the dual formulation. For the overdetermined system, the least squares method is considered to determine the dynamic stiffness and flexibility. A general purpose program has been developed to test several examples including circular and square cases.
In this paper, a computer simulation method for dynamic analysis of the hydraulic engine mount system is proposed. The hydraulic engine mount system controls the damping characteristics using the viscosity of fluid flow The complex stiffness of the main rubber of the hydraulic engine mount system is computed by finite element analysis for the viscoelastic materials and hydro-static elements. A numerical analysis method is presented to solve nonlinear equations of the hydraulic engine mount system. which is composed of an engine mass, fluid in inertia track and a vertical inertia force of reciprocating mass in the engine. Also. dynamic properties of the hydraulic engine mount system are analyzed in the frequency domain. Effects of the hydraulic engine mount system running over the rough road are investigated using a vehicle dynamic model. These results are compared with those of the rubber mount system.
