Recently, FCC(Federal Communications Commission) has considered for that unlicensed device leases licensed devices' channel to overcome shortage of communication channels. Therefore, IEEE 802.22 WRAN(Wireless Regional Area Networks) working group progresses CR (Cognitive Radio) technique that is able to sense and adopt void channels that are not being occupied by the licensed devices. Channel selection is of the utmost importance because it can affect the whole system performance in CR network. Thus, we propose a policy-based dynamic channel selection architecture for cognitive radio network to achieve an efficient communication. We propose three kinds of method for channel selection; the first one is weighted channel selection, the second one is sequential channel selection, and the last one is combined channel selection. We can obtain the optimum channel list and allocates channels dynamically using the proposed protocol.
In this paper, we investigate the problem of minimizing the average transmission power of users while guaranteeing the average delay constraints in time-varying uplink channels. We design a scheduler that selects a user for transmission and determines the transmission rate of the selected user based on the channel and backlog information of users. Since it requires prohibitively high computation complexity to determine an optimal scheduler for multi-user systems, we propose a low-complexity scheduling scheme that can achieve near-optimal performance. In this scheme, we reduce the complexity by decomposing the multiuser problem into multiple individual user problems. We arrange the probability of selecting each user such that it can be determined only by the information of the corresponding user and then optimize the transmission rate of each user independently. We solve the user problem by using a dynamic programming approach and analyze the upper and lower bounds of average transmission power and average delay, respectively. In addition, we investigate the effects of the user selection algorithm on the performance for different channel models. We show that a channel-adaptive user selection algorithm can improve the energy efficiency under uncorrelated channels but the gain is obtainable only for loose delay requirements in the case of correlated channels. Based on this, we propose a user selection algorithm that adapts itself to both the channel condition and the backlog level, which turns out to be energy-efficient over wide range of delay requirement regardless of the channel model.

This paper investigates the channel selection problem with dynamic users and the asymmetric interference relation in distributed opportunistic spectrum access systems. Since users transmitting data are based on their traffic demands, they dynamically compete for the channel occupation. Moreover, the heterogeneous interference range leads to asymmetric interference relation. The dynamic users and asymmetric interference relation bring about new challenges such as dynamic random systems and poor fairness. In this article, we will focus on maximizing the tradeoff between the achievable utility and access cost of each user, formulate the channel selection problem as a directional graphical game and prove it as an exact potential game presenting at least one pure Nash equilibrium point. We show that the best NE point maximizes both the personal and system utility, and employ the stochastic learning approach algorithm for achieving the best NE point. Simulation results show that the algorithm converges, presents near-optimal performance and good fairness, and the directional graphical model improves the systems throughput performance in different asymmetric level systems.

Cognitive radio is an advanced technology for efficient utilization of under-utilized spectrum via spectrum sensing. CR users should move from current allocating channel to empty channel to avoid the interference to the primary user if the primary user is allocating that channel. Thus, CR system cannot support the CR user's QoS(Quaiity of Service). In this paper, we propose dynamic frequency selection method based on Genetic Algorithm with power control. It is to find the optimization channel for satisfying various CR user's needs with the power control method to minimize the CR user's interference to the primary user. And, we propose the Genetic Algorithm(GA) which determines the best configuration for CR communication systems. The computer simulation results show that the proposed method guaranteed the primary user's decodability and the optimized solution for various channel status.

We propose the schemes for the dynamic channel allocation (DCA) in multi-cell OFDMA systems to avoid co-channel interference (CCI) without the additional complexity. The allocatable subcarriers areas, which is designed to avoid CCI among cells, are determined for each cell. Each cell allocates the subcarriers within the allocatable subcarriers area of the cell independently. We consider the trade off between the reduced frequency selection diversity and the amount of CCI on a subcarrier by the determination of allocatable subcarriers area. Hence, the equal allocation bound scheme for the high selectivity channel and the flexible allocation bound scheme for the low selectivity channel are proposed. Through the numerical results, it is confirmed that the proposed schemes have better performance in the aspects of the number of overlapping allocated subcarriers, the capacity and the outage probability compared to the case which does not determined the allocatable subcarriers area.

In this paper, the system-level performance is evaluated for the feedback scheme on the pre-coding matrix index (PMI) and channel quality indication (CQI), which are required for user selection in the multi-user MIMO system. Our analysis demonstrates that the number of users, the number of selected users, and codebook size are the key factors that govern the performance of the best companion grouping (BCG)-based user scheduling. Accordingly, we have confirmed that the probability of forming the co-scheduled user group is determined by these factors, which implies that the number of PMI's and codebook size can be dynamically determined so as to maximize the average system throughput as the number of users varies in the cell.

This paper investigates the problem of co-tier interference mitigation for dynamic small- cell networks, in which the load of each small-cell varies with the number of active associated small-cell users (SUs). Due to the fact that most small-cell base stations (SBSs) are deployed in an ad-hoc manner, the problem of reducing co-tier interference caused by dynamic loads in a distributed fashion is quite challenging. First, we propose a new distributed channel allocation method for small-cells with dynamic loads and define a dynamic interference graph. Based on this approach, we formulate the problem as a dynamic interference graph game and prove that the game is a potential game and has at least one pure strategy Nash equilibrium (NE) point. Moreover, we show that the best pure strategy NE point minimizes the expectation of the aggregate dynamic co-tier interference in the small-cell network. A distributed dynamic learning algorithm is then designed to achieve NE of the game, in which each SBS is unaware of the probability distributions of its own and other SBSs' dynamic loads. Simulation results show that the proposed approach can mitigate dynamic co-tier interference effectively and significantly outperform random channel selection.

In this paper, we propose a new channel hopping scheme based on IEEE 802.11h as a good countermeasure against jamming attacks in IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. 802.11h Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) is a mechanism which enables hopping to a best channel with full channel measurement, not a randomly chosen channel, when the current link quality degradation occurs due to interferers such as military radars. However, under jammer attacks, this needs a time for full channel measurement before a new channel hopping and due to link disconnection during the time network performance degradation is inevitable. In contrast, our proposed schemes make an immediate response right after a jammer detection since every device is aware of next hopping channel in advance. To do this, a next hopping channel is announced by Beacon frames and the channel is selected by full channel measurement within Beacon intervals. Simulation results show that proposed scheme minimizes throughput degradation and keeps the advantages of DFS.

Due to the increasing availability and popularity of digital television (DTV), the numbers of TV channels and programs that can be selected by consumers are also increasing rapidly. Therefore, searching for interesting channels and program via remote controls or channel guide maps can be frustrating and slow. In this paper, in order to better satisfy consumers, we propose a dynamic channel surfing scheme that reduces the channel seek distance in DTV. The proposed scheme dynamically rearranges the channel sequences according to the channel currently being watched to reduce the channel seek distance. The results of a simulation experiment demonstrate that the proposed dynamic channel surfing scheme reduces the channel seek distance for DTV channel navigation when up-down channel selection interfaces are used.
Nowadays, smart meter (SM) technology is widely effectively used. In addition, power allocation (PA) and channel selection (CS) are considered problems with many proposed approaches. In this paper, we will suggest a specific scenario for an SM configuration system and show how to solve the optimization problem for transmission between SMs and the data concentrator unit (DCU), the center that collects the data from several SMs, via simulation. An efficient CS with PA scheme is proposed in the TV white space system, which uses the TV band spectrum. On the basic of the optimal configuration requirements, SMs can have a transmission schedule and channel selection to obtain the optimal efficiency of using spectrum resources when transmitting data to the DCU. The optimal goals discussed in this paper are the maximum capacity or maximum channel efficiency and the maximum allowable power of the SMs used to satisfy the quality of service without harm to another wireless system. In addition, minimization of the interference to the digital television system and other SMs is also important and needs to be considered when the solving coexistence scenario. Further, we propose a process that performs an interference analysis scheme by using the spectrum engineering advanced Monte Carlo analysis tool (SEAMCAT), which is an integrated software tool based on a Monte-Carlo simulation method. Briefly, the process is as follows: The optimization process implemented by genetic evolution optimization engines, i.e., a genetic algorithm, will calculate the best configuration for the SM system on the basis of the interference limitation for each SM by SEAMCAT in a specific configuration, which reaches the solution with the best defined optimal goal satisfaction.
