This study investigates the dyeability and fastness of jacquard fabric for blind using low-melting flame retardant polyester. Two types of jacquard fabric were prepared with a low-melting flame retardant polyester and regular polyester. The low-melting flame retardant polyester has a sheath and a core. The core consists of flame retardant polyester and the sheath consists of low-melting polyester. Disperse red 50 (DR 50), disperse blue 56 (DB 56), disperse yellow (DY 54) of E-type dyes and disperse 92 (DR 92), disperse blue 60 (DB 60), disperse yellow (DY 79) of S-type dyes were used and dyed on jacquard fabrics dependent of dyeing temperature and time. The fastness, dye exhaustion, color strength (K/S value), and colorimetric properties of jacquard fabrics were evaluated. The dyeability of S-type dyes were higher than E-type dyes. The experiments indicated optimum dyeability that the dyeing temperature was $110^{\circ}C$ for E-type dyes and $120^{\circ}C$ for S-type dyes for 40 minutes. The fastness to washing and light were excellent at a 4-5 grade.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeability of silk fabrics with sweet potato stem leaf extract. To obtain the optimal dyeing conditions it was examined at various dyeing conditions(temperature, pH, time and bath ratio). The dyeability and the depths of shade which were evaluated in terms of K/S and CIELAB color difference values of the dyed and mordanted fabrics were also investigated. After dyeing, various color fastness(wash fastness, dry cleaning fastness, light fastness, rub fastness, and perspiration fastness) was measured and reviewed for UV protective, deodorant and antimicrobial functionality. The optimun output, as a result, was shown at 100% of dye concentration, $90^{\circ}C$ of dyeing temperature and 80 minutes of dyeing time while in terms of dye uptake depending on the kind of mordants and mordanting, it was found that among four mordants of $Alk(SO_4)_2$, $CuSO_4$, $SnCl_2$, and $FeSO_4$, post-mordanting with $SnCl_2$ showed the best results. Color fastness to dry cleaning, washing and rubbing was found strong at grade 4-5 and the grade to perspiration was as good as 3 while to light fastness was good at 4 as well. In aspects of functional properties, it showed excellent results of 98.3% UV protection rate and 88% deodorization rate. Antibacterial activity was 99.9% against staphylococcus aureus and 73.3% against klebisella pneumoniae. In conclusion, we validated that the dyestuffs from the disused sweet potato stem leaf extract would be useful as a natural dye material using the optimized conditions and dyeability for silk dyeing.
The aim of this study was to elucidate dyeability and antimicrobial activity of cotton fabrics dyed with Sophora Radix extracts according to various mordants. Dyes were extracted from Sophora Radix using ethanol. Then, cotton fabrics were dyed with extracts two times by post-mordanting method in which the extract was 60% (owf, the mordant was 3% (owf), L.R was 1:20, the temperature was 60~7$0^{\circ}C$, the time of dyeing was 60min., and the time of mordanting was 60min.. The dyeability was evaluated by surface color and color fastness. The skin microorganism was evaluated on S. sureus, B. subtilis, S. epidermidis, P. acnes, P. aeruginosa, E. coli, A. niger, C. albicans and T. mentagrophytes. The results are as follows; 1. When mordants were treated, surface color was 3.3Y to 0.1 GY in H (hue) value which indicated greenish yellow to yellow 2. The color fastness to perspiration, dry-cleaning, rubbing, and washing stain fabric showed 4~5 degree. The color fastness to light was improved to 4 degree by treatment of mordants. The color fastness to washing was 2 degree which was somewhat poor. 3. Cotton dyed with ethanol extracts was excellent on S. aureus, B. subtilis, S. epidermidis and p. antis. But that showed poor antibacterial activities on P. aeruginosa and E. coli such as gram negative baterials 4. Antibacterial activity of cotton fabrics dyed didn't be improved by treatment of mordant 5. Antifungal activity of cotton dyed with ethanol extracts was excellent on T. mentagrophytes. Especially, on T. mentagrophytes there was no growth of fungus during 72 hours in cotton dyed mordanting with SnCl$_2$.$_2$$H_2O$.
This study investigated the substantivity of anionic dyes for cationic-modified new rayon (cocell) fabric treated with cationic agent (CA), 3-(Chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)-trimethylammonium chloride (CA). We also investigate the dyeability of cationic-modified new rayon fabric after dyeing with gallut. CA was converted in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide into epoxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride. Treating with this epoxy reagent modified the hydroxyl groups of the new rayon fabric into the trimethylammonium group through ether linkage. The introduction of new cationic sites into new rayon fabric by pretreating with cationic agent improved the substantivity of the Gallnut dye with the new rayon dyebath. The degree of the cationization of cationic-modified new rayon and cotton fabric was evaluated by nitrogen (N) content. This study extracted the colorant of gallnut with hot water at $90^{\circ}C$ and 120 min. Cationic-modified new rayon fabric dyed with extracted solution from gallnut according to concentration of gallnut, dyeing temperature, dyeing time and concentration of cationic agent. Dyeability (K/S) was obtained by CCM observation after dyeing with gallut solution. In addition, fastness to washing and light were also investigated. The degree of crystallinity of new rayon and cotton fabric were 42.15% and 54.94%, respectively. N (%) content of cationic-modified new rayon was higher than the cationic-modified cotton. Dyeability (K/S) increased significantly with the increasing concentration of CA and gallut.
In this study, the possibility of the practical development of highly sensitive clothing textiles using fibrillated wool fibers were considered by determining the dyeability, the physical and mechanical properties of fibrillated wool fibers treated under strong acid and high temperature ultrasonic wave irradation and they were compared with those of untreated wool fibers. The color strengths of the dyed fibrillated wool fabrics increased by the acid metal complex dyes contrary to the untreated wool fabrics, and color fastness properties to rubbing, light, and dry cleaning were excellent, similar to those of the untreated wool fabrics. The tensile strengths of fibrillated wool fabrics were also kept after the dyeing. Moreover, the Numeri, Fukurami, and THV of the fibrillated wool fabrics were better than those of the untreated wool fabrics.
Poly(phenylene sulfide)(PPS) films were photooxidized under UV/ozone irradiation. The effect of UV energy on the surface properties of the UV-irradiation PPS films were investigated by the measurement of reflectance, surface roughness, and contact angle. Reflectance decreased at the wavelength of 400nm and the surface roughness increased with increased UV energy. The improvement in hydrophilicity with increased $O_{1s}/C_{1s}$ was caused by the introduction of hydrophilic $SO_2$ bond. Surface energy increased from 46.6 to $78.3mJ/m^2$ with increased UV energy up to $21.2J/cm^2$. Also zeta potential decreased with increased UV energy. The increased dyeability to cationic dyes may be due to the photochemically introduced anionic and dipolar dyeing sites on the PPS films surfaces.he photochemically introduced anionic and dipolar dyeing sites on the PPS films surfaces.
This study aims to compare the properties of natural dye stuffs, such as color, dyeability, fastness, and marketability, to analyze the differences noted by expert groups regarding the properties of the stuffs, and to make a positioning of the stuffs. A survey of experts in academia, business, and the art of natural dyeing was conducted, with an evaluation of 23 types of the stuff's properties. There is a correlation between the properties of the stuffs, and evaluating dye stuffs differs according to the group to which it belongs. X-axis relates to color and Y-axis refers to fastness in the positioning of the stuff. There are different relationships between properties according to their group. Color is significantly associated with marketability in art experts however, fastness is closely connected with marketability in business. The stuffs can be divided into five clusters. Cluster I includes indigo and persimmon, and is marked by excellent color, dyeability, fastness, and marketability, Cluster II contains safflower and sappan wood, which are excellent colors, yet suffer from low marketability on account of their medium to low fastness. Cluster III includes red, purple, and brown dyes, and onion and rhubarb, and has medium properties. Cluster IV is mugwort and yellow dyes, except onion and rhubarb, and features low properties. Cluster V is loess, featuring medium color and low fastness.
This study is to improve the worst lightfastness of a natural dye. To modify the fiber surface, low temperature oxygen plasma was carried out on silk fabric. The result is followed below after the examination of surface shape, dyeability, color change, UV absorbent influence and lightfastness. 1. When electric discharge outputs are 60W, 80W and 100w, and processing times are 10minutes, 20minutes and 40minutes, the etching effect of surface increased as electric discharge outputs and processing times increased. 2. When examined UV absorbent for 5hours, 10hours, 20hours, 40hours and 80hours, the value changes of E are 1.47, 2.51, 2.91, 3.71, 4.51 and 5.31 in case of Al pre-mordanting/ prasma 80W, 20min./ UVabsorbent 5% (100:1), 2.31, 2.47, 3.84, 3.90, 3.61 and 4.42 in case of Al pre-mordanting/prasma 80W, 20min.1 UV absorbent 5% (o.w.f.). The lightfastness decreased when UV absorbent increased. 3. Dyeability of the samples pre-treated with five different methods was in the following order: plasma processing for 20minutes at 60W/Al pre-mordanting > Al pre-mordanting > plasma processing for 20minutes at 60W > Al after-mordanting. non mordanting Plasma treatment had superior effect on dyeability. 4. When UV absorbent was applied in fabric, the sample under higher electric discharge out puts showed more effective in improving lightfastness.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the dyeability, antibacterial activity and deodorization on cotton and silk fabrics dyed with extracted solution from gardenia. The results are as follows: 1. The K/S value of silk fabrics was higher than that of cotton fabrics, and the K/S value was slightly increased by mordanting with $SnCl_2.2H_2O$ and $K_2Cr_2O_{7}$ on cotton and silk fabrics. 2. Cotton fabrics showed yellow from GY to Y and silk fabrics showed yellow or reddish yellow from GY to Y-YR. 3. The fastness to washing of cotton fabrics was very poor and that of silk fabrics was middle or lower, excluding good fastness to wool contamination of both fabrics. The fastness to dry cleaning and rubbing of both fabrics was very good. The fastness to perspiration of cotton fabrics was middle or higher, but that of silk fabrics was much better than that of cotton fabrics. The fastness to the light of both fabrics showed very poor with 1 grade. Dyeing fastness was slightly improved by mordanting on both fabrics. 4. Silk and cotton fabrics did not show antibacterial activity, but the activity of silk fabrics was higher than that of cotton fabrics. The antibacterial activity was increased by mordanting. 5. The deodorization of dyed cotton and silk fabrics was excellent, and that of silk fabrics showed better than that of cotton fabrics.
