  • Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) has been extensively investigated as the next generation energy source. Despite attractive features of simple fabrication process and its economical efficiency, there are some problems such as low efficiency and low long-term stability. Many groups have attempted the proposed way to improve the cell efficiency and long-term stability such as low recombination rate between $TiO_2$ surface and electrolyte, the development of new dye molecules capable of light adsorption as broadly as possible, the fabrication of a solid-state DSSC by replacing the liquid electrolyte, and protective coating on glass. In this work, we confirmed new dye-coating conditions to maximize the dye adsorption between the dye and $TiO_2$ nanoparticle surface. The experiment results coating conditions with the coating temperature of $70^{\circ}C$, the dye concentration of 10 mM and the coating time of 3 min. Conditions have two times, three times cycle the experiment in progress efficiency rises.

  • We report a method to increase the surface area of the titania films used as the anodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) by applying additional titania-coating. The modification was achieved by spin-coating a coating solution that contained a surfactant with a titania source onto the titania electrodes, followed by calcination. Previous similar attempts without a surfactant all reported decreased surface areas. We fabricated DSSCs by using the modified titania films as the anode and measured their performances. The increased surface area increased the amount of adsorbed dyes, which resulted in increased current densities. At the same time, the titania-coating increased both the open-circuit voltage and the current density by reducing the charge-recombination rates of the injected electrons, similar to the results of literatures. Therefore, our method shows an additional mechanism to increase the current density of DSSCs in addition to the other mechanisms of surface modifications with titania-coatings.

  • Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) has been considered as a possible alternative to current silicon based p-n junction photovoltaic devices due to its advantages of high efficiency, simple fabrication process and low production cost. Numerous researches for high efficient DSC in the various fields are under way even now. Among them, the compact layer, which prevents the back electron transfer between transparent conductive oxides and the redox electrolyte, is fabricated by various methods such as a ZnO dip-coating, $TiCl_4$ dip-coating, and Ti sputtering. In this study, we tried to fabricate the $TiO_2$ compact layer by the spin-coating method using aqueous $TiCl_4$ solution. The effect of the spin-coating method was checked as compared with conventional dip-coating method. As a result, DSC with a spin-coated compact layer had 33.4% and 6% better efficiency than standard DSC and DSC with a dip-coated compact layer.

  • DSSCs (dye-sensitized solar cells) based on $TiO_2/SiO_2$ multi layer AR (anti-reflection) coating on the outer glass FTO (fluorine-doped tin oxide) substrate are investigated. We have coated an AR layer on the surface of a DSSCs device by using an IAD (ion beam-assisted deposition) system and investigated the effects of the AR layer by measuring photovoltaic performance. Compared to the pure FTO substrate, the multi layer AR coating increased the total transmittance from 67.4 to 72.9% at 530 nm of wavelength. The main enhancement of solar conversion efficiency is attributed to the reduction of light reflection at the FTO substrate surface. This leads to the increase of Jsc and the efficiency improvement of DSSCs.

  • The transparent coloration of glasses has been successfully achieved by coated glass surface with squarylium dye by the sol-gel colored coating method. Treatment of sol-gel colored coating layer with HCI(g) greatly decreases the absorbance at λ$_{max}$, that increases exposure to $NH_{3}$(g) and the reversible color-colorless responce was extremely rapid.d.

  • 5,6-dihydroxyindole was easily oxidation with air and light Conditions. Availability of 5,6-dihydroxyindole was studied for hair dye as a precursor of melanin. This study used wet and dry coating process to stabilize 5,6-dihydroxyindole. In wet process used dimethicone and cyclometicone, the 5,6-dihydroxyindole had darkened through the drying process at $58^{\circ}C$. Wet coating process was inappropriate to stabilize the coating. In dry coating process, shea butter coating was stable until 3 days. Dextrin palmitate was most efficient ingredient to prevent oxidation by sun light and air until 7days. Oxidation test with 1.0% and 1.5% of dextrin palmitate was not different under conditions of sun light and air and was not dependent on contents. Vitamin E acetate under conditions of sun light and air, there were no significant effect in preventing oxidation.

  • Dye sensitized solar cells(DSSC) are the most promising future energy resource due to their high energy efficiency, low production cost, and simple manufacturing process. But one problem in DSSC is short life time compared to silicon solar cells. This problem occurred from photocatalytic degradation of dye material by nanometer sized $TiO_2$ particles. To prevent dye degradation as well as to increase its life time, the transparent coating film is needed for UV blocking. In this study, we synthesized nanometer sized $TiO_2$ particles in sols by increasing its internal pressure up to 200 bar in autoclave at $120^{\circ}C$ for 10 hrs. The synthesized $TiO_2$ sols were all formed with brookite phase and their particle size was several nm to 30 nm. Synthesized $TiO_2$ sols were coated on the backside of fluorine doped tin oxide(FTO) glass by ink jet printing method. With increasing coating thickness by repeated ink jet coating, the absorbance of UV region (under 400 nm) also increases reasonably. Decomposition test of titania powders dispersed in 0.1 mM amaranth solution covered with $TiO_2$ coating glass shows more stable dye properties under UV irradiation, compared to that with as-received FTO glass.

  • Carbon Nanotube(CNTs) counter electrode is a promising alternative to Platinum counter electrode for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In this study, CNT counter electrodes having different visible light transmittance were prepared on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass surface by spray coating method. Microstructural images show that there are CNT-tangled region coated on FTO glass counter electrodes. Using such CNT counter electrodes and screen printed $TiO_2$ electrodes, DSSCs were assembled and its I-V characteristics have been studied and compared. Light energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs increased with decreasing in light transmittance of CNT counter electrode. Efficiency of DSSCs having CNT counter electrode is compatible to that of Pt counter electrode.

  • Microcapsules of two different self-healing agents, 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB) and ENB with a crosslinker, surrounded by a melamine-urea-formaldehyde shell were manufactured. In this work, a red dye was incorporated into the self-healing agents as a tracer for better visual observations. It revealed that the incorporation of a red dye into self-healing agents did not disturb the formation of microcapsules from the examination of thermal resistance, particle size/size distribution and morphology of the resulting microcapsules. Releasing of self-healing liquid into the induced crack from ruptured microcapsules and filling between crack planes were observed using an optical microscope. Also observed was the reaction of filled healing agent with embedded Grubbs' catalyst in an epoxy coating layer.

  • $TiO_2$ is widely being used as a semiconductor electrode for DSSC. Anti-recombination property and surface area of $TiO_2$ give an important influence to the DSSC efficiency. In this study, $TiO_2$ electrode was fabricated on FTO using screen printing method. Various overlayers were coated on them by dip coating in solution of saturated $Ba(NO_3)_2$, $Mg(NO_3)_2$ and $N_{2}O_{6}Sr$. They reduced the recombination of electrons from photo excited state of Ru dye. The atmospheric plasma treatment was applied to both the $TiO_2$ and each overlayer coated $TiO_2$ surfaces to improve contact ability with dye. We prepared four samples, one sample has bare $TiO_2$ surfaces to improve contact ability with dye. We prepared four samples, one sample has bare $TiO_2$ electrode and the other samples consist of each overlayer coated $TiO_2$ electrodes. We used XRD, FE-SEM, J-V, IPCE and EIS in order to investigate characteristic.
