  • Batch binding experiments were performed to assess the recovery performance of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G3PDH) bound to the unshielded and polymer (polyvinyl pyrrolidone. PVP)-shielded dye-ligand (Cibacron Blue 3GA) adsorbent. The adoption of a polymer-shielded, dye-ligand technique facilitated the elution efficiency of bound G3PDH. It was demonstrated that the recovery of G3PDH using polymer-shielded dye-ligand adsorption yielded higher elution efficiency, at 60.5% and a specific activity of 42.3 IU/mg, after a low ionic strength elution (0.15 M NaCl). The unshielded dye-ligand yielded lower elution efficiency. at 6.5% and a specific activity of 10.2 IU/mg.

  • The dyeing characteristics of Dylon hand dyes on the cotton & silk fabric were studied, and the fastnesses of Dylon hand dyes were compared with those of direct & acid dyes. The results are as follows. 1. Dye adsorption of Dylon hand dyes increased as the concentration of dye increased. 2. Dye adsorption was increased as treatment time increased, and reached to eqilibrium after forty minutes treatment. 3. The temperature at mixiumum adsorption was 6$0^{\circ}C$, in the range of lower temperature than 6$0^{\circ}C$ color was changed, in the range of higher temperature adsorption of dye was decreased. 4. Dye adsorption was increased in direct proprotion to NaCl concentration and reached to equilibrium. But NaCl concentration of even and maximum adsorption was 5%. 5. Wash fastness of Dylon hand dyes was better than direct & acid dyes, but light fastness was worse.

  • Ultra-thin films of amphiphillic squarylium dye were prepared on the hydrophillic substrate by Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique. In this study, the photoelectric properties of a amphiphillic squarylium dye LB film was investigated. The visible light(${\lambda}$ = 684nm ) of xenon lamp was illuminated on the amphiphillic squarylium dye LB films and light absorptivity and photoconductivity were observed. The photoconductivity was nearly constant regardless of nominal layer number. The photoelectric properties of the amphiphillic squarylium dye LB films with bottom electrode showed better than that top electrode.

  • Dye sensitized solar cells were fabricated using natural dyes extracted from beetroot, rose and strawberry. The ZnO nanorod working electrode has been prepared by simple hydrothermal method. The crystallinity and morphology of the prepared electrode has been studied using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques. The effect of natural dye extract temperature, pH of the dye and the solvent used for dye preparation on the solar cell characteristics have been studied. The efficiency of strawberry extract sensitized ZnO nanorod solar cells are found to be better than the other solar cells sensitized using beetroot and rose extracts.

  • The author has studied comparatively the sealing quality of conventional Z.O.E. cement, Kerr sealer and Nogenol sealer by means of penetration of 2% methylene blue solution through the root apex of human teeth in 72 cases as time elapsed. The results were as follows; 1. All the specimens, whose dye immersion time is two days, showed dye penetration of low degree unrelated to the kinds of root canal sealer. 2. Kerr sealer group, like conventional Z.O.E. group, showed dye penetration of high degree related to increased time of immersion in the dye. 3. In Nogenol group, there was slight increase in penetration related to increased time of immersion in the dye. 4. Kerr sealer group showed comparatively lower grade of dye penetration than conventional Z.O.E. and higher than Nogenel sealer.

  • The dye marker Sudan Red 7B was tested as an effective and appropriate marking method for searching the territory of the termite, Reticulitermes speratus, in Korea. The sensitivity of termites to the dye marker was evaluated by measuring the feed consumption amount, survival rate, retention time, and transfer efficiency of R. speratus according to the concentration and feeding period of Sudan Red 7B. As the concentration conditions of dye marker increase, Sudan Red 7B remarkably reduced the feed consumption of the termites. The survival rate was not significantly different from that of the control group (more than 90%), except when feed containing 1% or 2% concentrations of the dye marker was given for five days. The duration of the marking effect persisted for seven days, even at a concentration of 2% dye marker in the feed. No dye transfer by trophallaxis occurred between termites marked with Sudan Red 7B and unmarked termites.

  • In this study a disperse dye immunoassay method was standardized and evaluated for detection of antibodies against Neospora caninum in cattle. Sera from 150 cattle with a recent history of abortion were collected and tested by commercial ELISA kit and a standardized in-house dye immunoassay system. The positivity rate for the sera used in this study was 34.6% for the disperse dye immunoassay (DDIA) compared to 32% obtained by ELISA kit. This study showed no significant difference between DDIA and ELISA. The results indicated that the DDIA provide an economic, simple, rapid and robust test for detection of N. caninum infection in cattle.

  • In this study, benzoxazolo carbocyanine is of industrial importance as green-sensitizing dye in the spectral sensitization. Sensitizing dye was prepared by the reaction of 2-methyl-3-sulfopropyl-4,5-benzoxazolium (inner salt) with triethyl orthobenzoate in the presence of triethylamine. The product was identified by using various analytical tools such as elemental analyzer, IR spectrophotometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, $^1H$-NMR spectrometer, TGA and DSC. The maximum absorption peak in methanol solvent was 507 nm. Therefore, it was concluded that benzoxazolo carbocyanine dye can be used as sensitizing dye for the spectral sensitization of photographic emulsion and color cosmetics.

  • Passive mode-locking of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser is achieved with saturable absorbers, BDN dye in iodoethane solvent and Kodak Eastman # 26 dye in 1,2-dichloroethane solvent, and its optimum conditions are investigated. The thickness of saturable absorbers employed in the laser mode-locking is 0.16~0.50mm. The PBR (peak-to-background ratio) measured in the oscilloscope is 79.8% in Kodak Eastman # 26 dye at the neighbourhood of the peak power, whereas the passive mode-locking with BDN dye gives PBR of 67.7%. BDN and Kodak Eastman # 26 dyes are superior in photostability over Kodak eastman # 9860 and # 9740 dyes which were used previously in passive mode-locking. From the PBR curve, we find that Kodak Eastman # 26dye is more effective than BDN dye in passive mode-locking. The spacing between the adjacent pulses of the pulse train, which depends on the laser cavity length, is measured and is found to be 7 nsec for the cavity length of 100cm.
