Cleansing of Fine Dust on the Skin, Application to the Human Body and Safety Effect of Botanical-sourced Soap (식물성 재료원 비누의 피부 위 미세먼지 세정, 인체 적용 및 안전성 효과에 관한 연구)

  • Background: New beauty soaps are always subject to evaluation. Purposes: This study performed a human application test and safety evaluation on the cleaning effect of the fine dust mimic of the test product, Daziwar soap bar, on 52 women. Methods: The quantitative change measured the cleaning effect of fine dust before and after washing immediately after spraying the fine mimetic dust on the forearm of 22 women. In addition, the safety was evaluated at 30 minutes, 24 hours, and 48 hours after 24 hours after applying the patch to the woman's back. Results: After one time washing with the soap immediately after spraying dust on the inside of the arm, the amount of the remaining mimetic was statistically significantly decreased in both the test group and the control group (p < .001). However, the washing rate was 99.96% in the experimental group and 75.58% in the control group. The questionnaire was evaluated as 'Good' or higher in terms of efficacy. In the evaluating of adverse reactions after washing fine dust by a dermatologist, there were no reports or observations of specific skin adverse reactions or abnormal findings in the subjects. The safety evaluation was judged as non-irritating in the skin reaction evaluation at 30 minutes, 24 hours, and 48 hours after instillation on the back for 24 hours. Conclusions: The test product, Daziwar soap, was found to be very helpful in cleaning fine dust on the human body and was found to be safe for the human body.

  • Conserving clean air and removing contaminants and particular matters accumulated in the ventilation system of the subway stations are key issue for green railway environment. There is no national guideline or industrial regulations to sustain clean duct and ventilation system, which requires rapid reformation of cleaning procedure and system. In fact, accumulated various particular matters and dusts can occur secondary air contamination and become a primary health harm factor for subway passengers. This study investigates various duct cleaning technologies and trends. In additon, effective cleaning method with an automated robot device is proposed. In particular, current dust cleaning technologies and duct cleaning robots are analyzed based on their functions and feasibilities. The proposed design of automated device is expected to save the operating cost of subway HVAC system and sustain clean air environment.

Comparison of Water Characteristics of Cleaning Wastewater and Stormwater Runoff from Highways (고속도로 청소폐수와 노면유출수의 수질특성 비교)

  • The paved areas in nonpoint source are highly polluted landuses because of high imperviousness and pollutant mass emissions, such as sand, cereals, and dust from vehicle activities. Most of them in highways are collected by cleaning trucks or discharged to the adjacent soil and water system through the drain ditch in stormwater. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the relationship between water concentration and total pollutant loadings from the paved areas. From the experiment, CODcr concentration of the cleaning wastewater was 17 times greater than that of the stormwater runoff. Also, concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Fe, Zn) were 1.3 to 1.5 times higher when compared to the stormwater runoff. While total discharged loadings was insignificant in the cleaning wastewater. In conclusion, these results provide some evidence that the stormwater runoff may be managed carefully to the aspect of total pollutant loadings and the cleaning wastewater may be handled cautiously with the pollutant concentrations in highways.

  • Blades of wind energy plants are exposed to external shocks or internal cracks during operation. Furthermore, the blade surfaces can be contaminated by substances such as dust, blood of birds, salt or insects which can decrease the electricity generation efficiency significantly. For this reason, many blade cleaning companies started to appear and a variety of methods for cleaning were suggested. Despite these diverse methods, there has been no study to investigate how effectively to clean the substances in quantitative manner. In this paper, the cleaning efficiency of two rotor blade cleaning methods, brush and water-jet, is examined through experiments by changing operating parameters. Then, the optimal operating conditions for both methods are derived.

On the Situation of House Cleaning and the Housemakers Opinion for Utility of the Vacuum Cleaner in Korea (한국에 있어서의 가정청소의 실태와 전기청소기에 관한 평가 - 한국과 일본의 비교 -)

  • We are studying on the home economics, particularly tools and machines used in household affairs. The object of this paper is to rationalize house cleaning method and to improve the used cleaning tools. We have made a social survey in Korea about the real situation of house cleaning as the first phase of this research. The contents are as follows: 1) The consciousness of housemakers for house cleaning. 2) The methods of house cleaning. 3) The used type of vacuum cleaner. 4) Merits and demerits of vacuum cleaner. 5) Troubles of vacuum cleaner etc. The results has been made in comparison with the same social survey in japan and a small scale different survey in The United States of America by auther in 1979. The results are as follow (in Korea). 1. The almost of housemakers are affirmative in charge of household affairs(95%). 2. In household affairs, only 9% of housemakers dislike cleaning work, but 40% of housemakers do not a cleaning work as a daily periodically. 3. In general household, they do a cleaning work with broom, duster and dust cloth, and then the cleaning work is faily backward in mechanization(The possession of vacuum is 19%). 4. The main dissatisfaction of vacuum cleaner is a noise, and also the difficulty of the cleaning in a corner of the room is shown in high percentage too.

  • A new type baghouse with tangential inlet and inner tube was developed and it's performances were evaluated. Experiments with variable shapes of inner tube were performed to suggest an optimum shape of inner tube which might decrease the dust loading onto bag filter surface and the amount of reentrained particles by internal gas flow. The dust loading was lower when inner tubes parallel to outer casing exist. When an inner tube covering around the lower portion of bag filters was used, the dust particles detached from the filter surface by cleaning process were reentraind by internal recirculating gas flow.

Characterization of depth filter media for gas turbine intake air cleaning

  • A depth filter medium was newly designed in order to achieve high collection of dust and low pressure drop in this work. Multilayer depth filter media consist of an upstream layer of highly porous structure which allows particles to pass through and to follow by one or more downstream layers to hold the particles inside the media. For each filter media, flat sheet and pleated module were made of newly developed depth filter media and filter media of commercial products. Commercial depth filter cartridge for gas turbine air intake cleaning were used as reference for filtration area and pleat geometry of pleated modules. This work attempts to evaluate and compare the newly developed depth filter medium and two commercial filter media in terms of filtration parameters such as air permeability, initial pressure drop, particle retention and pressure drop variation with dust loading. According to the close examination the newly developed depth filter showed better performance compared to the commercial depth filter media.

  • Metal cleaning process is a technology which removes oil, dust and soil etc. on the surface of metal utilizing cleaning agents. These contaminants disturb the following processes such as plating and painting etc. if they are not removed. Thus, metal cleaning is typically an environmentally hazardous activity. Until recently, vapor degreasers as utilizing chlorinated solvents have been relatively cheap, extraordinarily versatile and waste disposal costs have been perceived as insignificant. Today, however, it is readily apparent that Industry's reliance upon chlorinated solvents as metal cleaners have resulted in a myriad of environmental, health and safety concerns. Therefore, this paper studies on a parameter and a sort of the alternative cleaning agents for the optimum cleaners. Also, a great deal of effort has been devoted to developing alternative metal cleaning technologies in advanced countries and some processes are being commercialized among them. We are going to consider alternative aqueous cleaning agents replacing organic chlorinated solvents and to pursue a domain application through a successful improvement case.

Recent Improvements in Integrated Zinc Control and Dust/Sludge Recycling at China Steel

  • In an integrated steel mill, zinc (Zn) inputs from raw materials and steel scrap are enriched in the dusts and sludges collected from gas and water cleaning systems. The reuse of these dusts and sludges must be controlled within certain limit to avoid Zn accumulation and related operational problems in blast furnace. An integrated system has been established at China Steel Corporation (CSC) to enhance the internal reuse of Zn-containing dust/sludge while keeping Zn input within control lim it. However. the performance of this system has not been very satisfactory until one and half years ago when a rationalization process was initiated. The essence of this rationalization process, the recent improvements in Zn control and dust and sludge reuse are reported and discussed.

  • In this paper, we present the sweeping machine with cyclone type dust collector for cleaning shipment exterior wall. Important cyclone characteristics such as the collection efficiency, pressure and velocity fields have been discussed and compared with the experimental data. The purpose of this study is to introduce the mechanism design of the high efficiency sweeping machine using the cyclone dust collector. Generally, the increase of inlet velocity of air in a cyclone dust collector improves the separation efficiency, while it results in increasing in the pressure losses nonlinearly.
