Bio-inspired self powered nervous system for civil structures

  • Globally, civil infrastructures are deteriorating at an alarming rate caused by overuse, overloading, aging, damage or failure due to natural or man-made hazards. With such a vast network of deteriorating infrastructure, there is a growing interest in continuous monitoring technologies. In order to provide a true distributed sensor and control system for civil structures, we are developing a Structural Nervous System that mimics key attributes of a human nervous system. This nervous system is made up of building blocks that are designed based on mechanoreceptors as a fundamentally new approach for the development of a structural health monitoring and diagnostic system that utilizes the recently developed piezo-fibers capable of sensing and actuation. In particular, our research has been focused on producing a sensory nervous system for civil structures by using piezo-fibers as sensory receptors, nerve fibers, neuronal pools, and spinocervical tract to the nodal and central processing units. This paper presents up to date results of our research, including the design and analysis of the structural nervous system.

CRM을 활용한 사이버 채권사이트 구축에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of Cyber Bond Site with CRM)

  • The marketing environment of recent security business has been changed as goods and service have been changed variously. Under this condition, the security corporations have been trying to have good relationship with customers and to have high gains as well. But the management of the customers in the bond marketing is not enough. Then, this paper suggests some methods to promote the CRM at bond brokerage in order to make profits in the security corporation. First, the customers will know the earning rate of the bond that they have and also they can analysis the difference selling the bond and keeping it until the due date. The developed bond management system analyzes customers' preference from questionaire which is responded by customers. It also can make customers actively sell and buy the bond through recommendations corresponding with customers' preference. Moreover, this paper suggests the video conference consulting system for close relationship with corporation and customers. We have tested this bond management system and we expect that this system activates the buying and selling of the bond that non-experts can easily invest bonds and the security corporations can increase profit.

Job Shop에서의 주문 투입 통제 방안 연구 (A Study on the Order Release Method in Job Shop)

  • This paper deals with the order release problem for minimizing weighted earliness and tardiness as well as Work In Process (WIP) in dynamic job shop environments. A newly designed hierarchical order release mechanism is developed for efficient real-time control of the earliness/tardiness and WIP. The hierarchical order release mechanism consists of the order release plan and the order release control which is composed of two procedures. The experimental results show that the proposed order release mechanism is superior to other four order release mechanisms under overall simulation conditions of utilization rate, due-date allowances, and earliness/tardiness cost structures. In addition, the difference of total cost among the four dispatching rules is much more reduced in the proposed order release mechanism than in other release mechanisms.

Assessements of Apoptosis in Bovine Embryos Reconstructed with Fetal Fibroblast

  • Mainly due to deficiencies in nuclear reprogramming, gene expression and DNA fragmentation, which result in early and late embryonic losses, the overall success rate achieved by cloning techniques to date is low. This present study compared the incidences of DNA fragmentation during development of IVF, parthenotes (PT), nuclear transfer (NT) and transgenic (TG) embryos. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) nick-end labelling (TUNEL) with propidium iodide counter staining was used for determination of DNA fragmentation and total number, respectively. TG and NT donor cells were fetal fibroblasts with or without transfection with EGFP, and cultured in DMEM+15% FCS until confluent, for 5 days. At 19 h post-maturation (hpm), enucleated oocytes were reconstructed with donor cells and activated at 24 hpm with the combinations of ionomycin (5 M, 5 min) and cyclo-heximide (10 g/ml, 5 h) after electric fusion by a single DC pulse (1.6 KV/cm, 60 sec).   • Germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) is among the devastating neurological complications with mortality and neurodevelopmental disability rates ranging from 14.7% to 44.7% in preterm infants. The medical techniques have improved throughout the years, as the morbidity-free survival rate of very-low-birth-weight infants has increased; however, the neonatal and long-term morbidity rates have not significantly improved. To this date, there is no strong evidence on pharmacological management on GM-IVH, due to the limitation of well-designed randomized controlled studies. However, recombinant human erythropoietin administration in preterm infants seems to be the only effective pharmacological management in limited situations. Hence, further high-quality collaborative research studies are warranted in the future to ensure better outcomes among preterm infants with GM-IVH.

신도입 케나프 품종의 파종시기에 빠른 생육 및 수량 변동과 광합성 특성 (Growth, Yield and Photosynthesis of Introduced Kenaf Cultivars in Korea)

  • 제주에서 새로 도입한 케나프 3개 품종(Everglades-41, Chingpi-3, Tainung-2)의 파종시기별 생산성을 검토하였다. 11월 말 수확의 단위면적당 수량(지상부생중)은 Everglades-41가 다른 두 품종보다 적었는데, 파종시기별로는 Chingpi-3은 5월 11일 파종에서 높았고 파종시기가 늦어질수록 감소하였으나, Everglades-41 및 Tainung-2은 5월 21일 및 6월 1일 파종에서 높은 경향을 나타냈다. 단위엽면적당 광합성 능력은 Everglades-41이 다른 두 품종보다 높았는데, 이것은 Everglades-41의 잎모양이 타 두품종과 다른 것과 높은 광이용 효율에 기인한 것으로 생각된다. 그러나, Everglades-41의 생장량은 두 품종보다 낮았는데, 이것은 생육초기에 병충해에 의한 생육 저해에 의한 것 이외에도 광호흡(photo respiration)이 높은 점으로 보아 광호흡에 의한 물질 생산량의 손실도 고려 대상이다. 생산적인 측면을 고려 할 때 제주 지역에서는 Chingpi-3을 5월중순경 파종해서 재배하는 것이 적당할 것으로 보여지나, 본 시험에 공시한 3품종은 제주에서의 채종은 쉽지 않을 것으로 보여진다.

1x EV-DO 서비스망을 위한 이동통신 중계기의 송신 다이버스티에 관한 연구 (A Study on Transmit Diversity of Repeaters for 1x EV-DO Networks)

  • 음성급의 무선 통신서비스에 있어 기지국과 단말기간의 다중경로에 의해 발생하는 레이라이 페이딩 현상은 통신품질의 열화(호의 끊어짐, error 발생 등)를 가져오게 된다. 초고속 무선 멀티미디어 서비스(1x EV-DO, W-CDMA 서비스)의 경우, 현재 2세대 이동통신 서비스(64kbps)보다 약 40배 정도 빠른 속도의 서비스를 제공하게 되므로, 이 경우에는 음성급에 비해 레이라이 페이딩 철상에 의한 통신 품질의 열화 문제가 더욱 심화될 것이 예상된다. 실제로 1x EV-DO의 경우 현장 시험결과 복조 방법에 따라 페이딩에 의한 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 기지국과 단말기간의 다중경로에 의한 레이라이 페이딩 문제를 해결하기 위해서는 이동통신 중계기에 송신 다이버스티 기능이 구현되어야 한다. 본 논문은 RF 중계기에 송신 다이버스티를 구현하여 1x EV-DO망에서 현장시험을 한 결과에 관한 것이다. 시험결과 다이버스티가 없는 경우 보다 최대 데이터 rate가 약 2배정도 증가되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Atomic layer deposition (ALD)have been proven to be a very attractive technique for the fabrication of advanced gate dielectrics and DRAM insulators due to excellent conformality and precise control of film thickness and composition, However, one major disadvantages of ALD is its relatively low deposition rate (throughput) because the deposition rate is typically limited by the time required for purging process between the introduction of precursors. In order to improve its throughput, many efforts have been made by commercial companies, for example,the modification reactor and development of precursors. However, any promising solution has not reported to date. We developed a new concept ALD system(Lucida TM S200) with high-throughput. In this process, a continuous flow of ALD precursor and purging gas are simultaneously introduced from different locations in the ALD reactor. A cyclic ALD process is carried out by moving the wafer holder up and down. Therefore, the time required for ALD reaction cycle is determined by speed of the wafer holder and vapor pressure of precursors. We will present the operating principle of our system and results of deposition.

정지궤도 위성통신 환경모의를 위한 100 MHz 대역폭의 위성링크 시뮬레이터 개발 (Satellite Link Simulator Development in 100 MHz Bandwidth to Simulate Satellite Communication Environment in the Geostationary Orbit)

  • The transponder simulator designed to simulate the transponder of military satellite communication systems in the geostationary orbit is required to have time delay function, because of 250 ms delay time, when a radio wave transmits the distance of 36,000 km in free space. But, it is very difficult to develop 250 ms time delay device in the transponder simulator of 100 MHz bandwidth, due to unstable operation of FPGA, loss of memory data for the high speed rate signal processing. Up to date, bandwidth of the time delay device is limited to 45 MHz bandwidth. To solve this problem, we propose the new time delay techniques up to 100 MHz bandwidth without data loss. Proposed techniques are the low speed down scaling and high speed up scaling methods to read and write the external memory, and the matrix structure design of FPGA memory to treat data as high speed rate. We developed the satellite link simulator in 100 MHz bandwidth using the proposed new time delay techniques, implemented to the transponder simulator and verified the function of 265 ms time delay device in 100 MHz bandwidth.

국내 순수 인터넷 기업평가에 관한 탐색적 연구 (Valuation of Pure Internet Business : An Exploratory Study)

  • Due to the potential growing capability that reflects future value, the market value of internet business companies (IB) are still evaluated high although major players like Amazon continuously suffer losses. Then, how do investors valuate the potential growing capabilities given that traditional financial/accounting based valuation approaches seem to be inappropriate for IB. This study attempts to provide an answer to this issue. We, therefore, analyzed the predictability of various accounting and non-accounting variables for IB value. These include book value, net income, unique visitors, page view, reach rate, public float and institutional holdings. Because of being in infant stage and difficulties in obtaining necessary web traffic data, sample of 20 pure IB were selected from Korea Stock Exchange Market, KOSDAQ, and informal market. The results of this study showed that web traffic date had the strongest relationship with IB value. In particular, unique visitors and reach rate were found to be best predictors for IB value while page view was reasonable indicator. Interestingly, net income was not found to related to IB value. This calls for an attention to the typical characteristics of IB that my hinder the usage of traditional valuation approaches for IB. Another results revealed that none of both public float and institutional holdings was significantly associated with IB value, indicating market’s supply-demand factors were less important than traffic information.
