  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between family, work experiences and psychological well-being among employed wives. Data were collected from 258 full-time employed wives in dual-earner families. 63.6% of respondents were in their 30s and 36.4% in their 40s. Educational and income level was above average. Employed wives experienced higher levels of stress and satisfaction in parenting than in marital relationships and work. The findings of this study indicated that higher levels of marital stress and parenting stress were negatively related to work satisfaction for employed wives in dual-earner couples. Work stress had negative effects on parenting satisfaction. However, marital satisfaction was not influenced by parenting stress and work stress. The results of the regression analysis revealed that marital, work and parenting satisfaction were significant predictors of psychological well-being of employed wives. The subjects were 703 people who lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do. The results were analyzed by using the PASW 21.0 program. This is the users had a high level of awareness of family's values and importance compared to the non-users. Second, the users revealed higher levels at a positive spillover from work to family and from family to work than the non-users. Therefore, it is confirmed that the users have a positive view of work-family spillover due to their family strength. Finally, there was a significant result at the moderation effects of work-family spillover according to personal traits, family and job characteristics. Specifically, work-family negative spillover was effected family strength through the age of the users' children. The result suggest that family strength has positive effects on the family cycle. It will be worthwhile to pay attention in future research to discover what is the appropriate support for dual earner families.

  • The present study identified the effects of parents' work-family conflict on their and partners' co-parenting quality, as well as the mediating roles of co-parenting quality and children's executive function difficulties in linking parents' work-family conflict to their children's school adjustment. This study used data from 387 dual-earner parents and their first-grade elementary school children, who participated in the Panel Study on Korean Children. An actor-partner interdependence and mediation model analysis using structural equation modeling revealed the following findings: first, the actor and partner effects of parents' work-family conflict on co-parenting quality were significant for both fathers and mothers. Second, the effect of the fathers' work-family conflict on their co-parenting quality was found to be greater than that of the mothers' work-family conflict on the fathers' co-parenting quality. Third, fathers' and mothers' work-family conflict, respectively, exerted an indirect effect on their children's school adjustment through the serial mediation by the mothers' co-parenting quality and children's executive function difficulties, whereas the direct effects of fathers' and mothers' work-family conflict on children's school adjustment were not supported. Finally, this study suggests that co-parenting quality and children's executive function should be considered to facilitate children's school adjustment in the parent education of dual-earner families with first-grade elementary school children, and that continuous policy efforts for dual-earner parents' work-family balance are needed.
