  • As the occurrences of flash floods have increased due to climate change, faster and more accurate precipitation observation using X-band radar has become important. Therefore, the Ministry of Environment installed two dual-pol X-band radars at Samcheok and Uljin. The radar data used in this study were obtained from two different elevation angles and composed to reduce the shielding effect. To obtain quantitative rainfall, quality control (QC), KDP retrieval, and Hybrid Surface Rainfall (HSR) methods were sequentially applied. To improve the accuracy of the quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) of the X-band radar, we retrieved parameters for the relationship between rainfall rate and specific differential phase, which is commonly called the R-KDP relationship; hence, an empirical approach was developed using multiple rain gauges for those two radars. The newly suggested relationship, R = 27.4K0.81DP, slightly increased the correlation coefficient by 1% more than the relationship suggested by the previous study. The root mean square error significantly decreased from 3.88 mm/hr to 3.68 mm/hr, and the bias of the estimated precipitation also decreased from -1.72 mm/hr to -0.92 mm/hr for overall cases, showing the improvement of the new method.

  • Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a powerful tool for the detection of DNA sequences in the specific region of the chromosomes. As well as for the integrated physical mapping, FISH karyotype analysis has to be preceded. Karyotype of Raphanus sativus 'Wonkyo 10039' was analyzed by a dual-color FISH technique; using various repetitive DNA probes, including 5S rDNA, 45S rDNA, and centromere retrotransposon. The length of the somatic metaphase chromosome ranged from 1.35 to $2.06{\mu}m$ with a total length of $15.29{\mu}m$. The chromosome complements comprised of eight pairs of metacentrics and one pair of submetacentric. Bleached DAPI Band analysis revealed a heterochromatin region, covering 28.6% to 50.4% each chromosomes. 5S and 45S rDNA sequences were located on two and three pairs of chromosomes, respectively. The centromere retrotransposon of Brassica (CRB) is a major component in Brassica related species that has been maintained as a common centromere component. CRB signals were detected on the centromere and pericentromeric region of R. sativus 'Wonkyo 10039' and three basic Brassica species (B. rapa, B. nigra, and B. oleracea). These results will provide a valuable background for physical mapping and elucidation of the evolutionary relationship among the Brassica related species.

  • In this paper, prior to the flight model X-band dual-mode circular cavity filter required for the high power transmission of the observation payload in the geostationary satellite, the development model are designed and analyzed to show the analytical multipactor requirement margin. First of all, the multipaction breakdown power sensitivities were analyzed by changing the iris width and thickness within the filter, and through that the iris width and thickness was selected and then the multipaction threshold powers over the frequencies within the bandwidth were analyzed and the required margin of 8 dB was obtained. Also for the high power transmission filter, another important phenomena known as corona breakdown are analyzed for the iris width and thickness changes. Finally the development model manufactured was tested and the results met the key requirements.

  • Many novel designs of planar antennas for related applications such as internal mobile phone antennas, base station antennas, WLAN or Bluetooth antennas, and so on, have been reported very recently, especially since the year 2000. In this thesis, Dualband internal antenna for GSM/DSC handset is proposed. The antenna has a size of about 38mm$\times$90mm$\times$1mm, giving a total mobile phone PCB for support and fold type Patch of about 30mm$\times$8mm$\times$3.2mm. This antenna characteristic facilitates the fine-tuning of the two operating frequencies of 909MHz and 1762MHz in this dualband design. The measured radiation pattern in the E-plane and H-plane for operating frequencies of 909MHz and 1762MHz is compared and analyzed. The designed and fabricated two band internal antenna for GSM/DSC handset have a gain between 0dBi and 2.0dBi at all bands.

  • This paper suggests the PIFA structure modified antenna in which short-circuit plate is located between planar element and ground plane, in order to solve the problem of narrow band of existing internal antenna, PIFA. It is also suggested that internal antenna has the perturbation in the patch to broaden the frequency bandwidth. It is possible that the antenna is installed into the mobile telephone with a low profile condition(h=0.015 λ) to use internally, and acquired desired bandwidth(5.2 %) through double resonance structure, remodeling the PIFA that is already well-known as an internal antenna. This paper investigated how characteristic is affected by the feeding point(Yf, Zf), short strip plate(Zs), short strip width(Ws), perturbation width(w), length(d), short plate height(h), dielectric($\varepsilon$$\_$r/) to be slim type antenna. It is compared with existing PIFA bandwidth, and is suggested pattern as the H.E plane. It is simulated using the Microwave Studio of the CST Inc. based on FIM(Finite Integration Method) method and analyzed antenna characteristic following the variation each parameters. The result proved the practical use of PIFA antenna by comparing the measured and simulated data of the antenna.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the performance of frame synchronization words of pilot bit patterns which are used for the channel estimation and frame synchronization confirmation in W-CDMA(Wide band Code Division Multiple Access) system. W-CDMA system also uses compressed mode to make measurements from another frequency without a full dual receiver terminal. It is confirmed by using computer simulation that the proposed frame synchronization words also maintain the frame synchronization property in the compressed mode by using the complementary mapping relationship of preferred pair ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic) curves with probability of detection and false alarm are used to analized the performance of the proposed frame synchronization words by using the various detection metrics such as LLRT(Log Likelyhood Ratio Test), GLRT(Generalied Likelyhood Ratio Test), soft and hard correlation tests in AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels. It is expected that the research results fer the performance of pilot bit patterns of this paper can be useful reference for the design and implementation of frame synchronization in 3rd generation W-CDMA system.

  • This paper introduces development process and results of HF & UHF band(13.56 MHz, 920 MHz) tag antennas using a single-side printing method on a PE film. The size of tag antenna is designed in the area of $80mm{\times}50mm$, little bit smaller than a credit card. The UHF tag antenna, $76mm{\times}44mm$, is located at the outside of the card size tag antenna, and the HF tag antenna, $40 mm{\times}42 mm$, is located at the center of the UHF tag antenna. The UHF and HF tag antennas are designed with consideration of coupling effects. The single-side printing method with a jumper structure without using a via is used to make a loop antenna of HF tag antenna. The reading range of UHF tag antenna is about 6m, and the reading of HF tag antenna is about 5 cm. The designed tag antennas have long enough reading ranges for both bands. The tag is applicable to logistics and authentification.
