Products for heating indoors in low temperature and dry winter are largely divided into products using fossil fuels and products using electricity. The fossil fuels can warm the entire space by convection, but there is a high risk of fire and the frequent ventilation due to the increase in carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Heaters using electricity are mainly used because they are convenient to use and are cheap. However, these products can not efficiently warm the air because they use radiation energy. In other words, only the front part exposed to the heater is warm, and the rear part has no heating effect at all. Also, because it emits a large amount of light, fatigue of the eyes is very high. Another problem is that when using electric heaters, the room tends to be dry by high heat. Indoor humidity maintenance is a very important factor in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases. Especially, it is essential for health care for infants, bronchial organs and people with weak respiratory because humidity is low in winter. In this study, we conducted a study to develop a product that can improve heating efficiency while maintaining proper indoor humidity by combining heat energy and moisture particles. The concept of humidification and heating at the same time, moisture particles generated in the humidifier pass through the heater, include thermal energy, and the moisture particles with thermal energy are diffused into the space by forced convection, thereby warming the entire space. In addition, the heating time is shortened as the feeling temperature is increased with the high relative humidity, and this has the effect that the heating cost in winter is reduced.

In this study, we performed a quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) of Salmonella through intake of egg consumption after cooking (dry-heat, moist-heat, and raw consumption). Egg samples (n = 201) from retail markets were analyzed for the presence of Salmonella. In addition, temperature and time were investigated during egg transit, storage, and display. A predictive model was developed to characterize the kinetic behavior of Salmonella in eggs, and data on egg consumption and frequency were collected. Eventually, the data was simulated to estimate egg-related foodborne illnesses. Salmonella was not found in any of the 201 egg samples. Thus, the estimated initial contamination level was -4.0 Log CFU/g. With R2 values of 0.898 and 0.922, the constructed predictive models were adequate for describing the fate of Salmonella in eggs throughout distribution and storage. Eggs were consumed raw (1.5%, 39.2 g), dry-heated (57.5%, 43.0 g), and moist-heated (41%, 36.1 g). The probability of foodborne Salmonella illness from the consumption of cooked eggs was evaluated to be 6.8×10-10. Additionally, the probability of foodborne illness not applied cooking methods was 1.9×10-7, indicating that Salmonella can be reduced by cooking. Therefore, the risk of Salmonella infection through consumption of eggs after cooking might be low in S. Korea.
Twenty $Pelibuey{\times}Katahdin$ ewes ($35{\pm}2.3kg$) were used to determine the effects of the consumption of standardized plant extract containing a mixture of quaternary benzophenanthridine alkaloids and protopine alkaloids (QBA+PA) on growth performance, dietary energetics, visceral mass, and ruminal epithelial health in heat-stressed ewes fed with a high-energy corn-based diet. The basal diet (13.9% crude protein and 2.09 Mcal of net energy [NE] of maintenance/kg of dry matter) contained 49.7% starch and 15.3% neutral detergent fiber. Source of QBA+PA was Sangrovit RS (SANG) which contains 3 g of quaternary benzophenathridine and protopine alkaloids per kg of product. Treatments consisted of a daily consumption of 0 or 0.5 g SANG/ewe. Ewes were grouped by weight and assigned to 10 pens (5 pens/treatment), with two ewes per pen. The experimental period lasted 70 days. The mean temperature humidity index during the course of this experiment was $81.7{\pm}1.0$ (severe heat stress). There were no treatment effects on water intake. Dry matter intake was not affected (p = 0.70) by treatments, but the group fed SANG had a numerically (11.2%) higher gain in comparison to the control group, SANG improved gain efficiency (8.3%, p = 0.04), dietary NE (5.2%, p<0.01) and the observed-to-expected NE (5.9%, p<0.01). Supplemental SANG did not affect ($p{\geq}0.12$) carcass characteristics, chemical composition of shoulder, and organ weights (g/kg empty body weight) of stomach complex, intestines, and heart/lung. Supplemental SANG decreased liver weight (10.3%, p = 0.02) and increased visceral fat (16.9%, p = 0.02). Rumen epithelium of ewes fed SANG had lower scores for cellular dropsical degeneration (2.08 vs 2.34, p = 0.02), parakeratosis (1.30 vs 1.82, p = 0.03) and neutrophil infiltration (2.08 vs 2.86, p = 0.05) than controls. It is concluded that SANG supplementation helped ameliorate the negative effects of severe heat on growth performance of feedlot ewes fed high-energy corn-based diets. Improvement in energetic efficiency may have been mediated, in part, by anti-inflammatory effects of supplemental SANG and corresponding enhancement of nutrient uptake.
The induction of polyhedroses in the silkworm, Bambyx mari L., was investigated treating the 5th instar larvae just after eodysis with high temperature (hot water bath at 40$^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes or dry heat shock at 40$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes) and low temperature (5$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours). The results obtained were as follows; 1. Comparing between the frequency of nuclear and cytoplasmic polyhedroses induced by cold and heat treatments (hot water bath at 40$^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes), the induction ratio of the former is clearly less than that of the latter. But if the larvae tested with cold were left at room temperature (25$^{\circ}C$) for 30-120 minutes till the next hot water bath (40$^{\circ}C$) for 5 minutes and water bath (20$^{\circ}C$) for 5 minutes, treatments, the frequency of induced cytoplasmic polyhedrosis was more than that in the case of cold or hot water bath treatment alone. 2. The frequency of nuclear and cytoplasmic polyhedrosis induced by cold and successive heat (dry heat shock at 40$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes), left at room temperature (25$^{\circ}C$) ti11 the second treatment, the frequency of nuclear polyhedrosis was less than that of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis. 3. The reaction of nuclear polyhedra to stains also differs sharply from that of the cytoplasmic type. In a smear of nuclear polyhedra on a slide staining with Giemsa solution remains unstained against a stained back ground, in contrast to this, the cytoplasmic polyhedra take up stain readly.
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of the superficial heat therapy on the cutaneous blood flow and the skin temperature at pre-auricular region. Two types of the superficial heat therapy-moist hot pack & infrared lamp- were applied to 20 healthy subjects(male: 10, female: 10). For each subject, the two parameters of cutaneous blood flow and skin temperature were measured before and after heat therapy, using laser doppler flowmetry(LDF). The author analyzed the differences of the effects between the two therapies and also characteristics of responsiveness between the two parameters. The results were as follows : 1. The two parameters were significantly increased after both superficial heat therapies. 2. Skin temperature showed a maximum peak immediately after both superficial heat therapies, but cutaneous blood flow showed a maximum peak 4 minutes after both superficial heat therapies. 3. Increased cutaneous blood flow after application of moist hot pack lasted longer than infrared lamp. 4. Increased skin temperature after both superficial heat therapies lasted for 60 minutes, but increased skin temperature after infrared lamp decreased more rapidly than moist hot pack. 5. Amount of changes in cutaneous blood flow after infrared lamp was larger in female than in male, but no significant gender difference was found since 20 minutes after infrared lamp. Both moist hot pack and infrared lamp showed favorable effectiveness in raising cutaneous blood flow and skin temperature. Moist hot pack was slightly superior in maintaining this effect.
This experiment was performed to verify whether dietary heat-killed Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LR) improves growth performance and modulates immune responses of weaned pigs. Ninety-six weaned pigs ([Landrace × Yorkshire] × Duroc; 6.95 ± 0.25 kg body weight [BW]; 28 d old) were randomly allocated to four treatments: 1) a basal diet without heat-killed LR (CON), 2) T1 (CON with 0.1% heat-killed LR), 3) T2 (CON with 0.2% heat-killed LR), and 4) T3 (CON with 0.4% heat-killed LR). Each treatment had six pens with four pigs (6 replicates per treatment) in a randomized completely block design. The heat-killed LR used in this study contained 1 × 109 FU/g of LR in a commercial product. Pigs were fed each treatment for four weeks using a two-phase feeding program to measure growth performance and frequency of diarrhea. During the last week of this study, all diets contained 0.2% chromic oxide as an indigestible marker. Fecal sampling was performed through rectal palpation for the consecutive three days after the four adaptation days to measure apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of dry matter, crude protein, and gross energy (GE). Blood sampling was also performed on day 1, 3, 7, and 14 after weaning to measure immune responses such as serum tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), C-reactive protein (CRP), and cortisol. The heat-killed LR increased (p < 0.05) growth rate, feed efficiency, and ATTD of GE for overall experimental period compared with CON, but reduced (p < 0.05) post-weaning diarrhea. In addition, pigs fed diets contained heat-killed had lower concentrations of serum TNF-α (d 7; p < 0.05), TGF-β1 (d 7; p < 0.10), and cortisol (d 3 and 7; p < 0.05) than pigs fed CON. In conclusion, dietary heat-killed LR improved growth rate, modified immune responses of weaned pigs, and alleviated post-weaning diarrhea.
Among the various thermal properties, thermal conductivity of soils is one of the most important parameters to design a horizontal ground heat exchanger for ground-coupled heat pump systems. It is well known that the thermal conductivity of soil is strongly influenced by its density and water content because of its particulate structure. This paper evaluates some of the well-known prediction models for the thermal conductivity of particulate media such as soils along with the experimental results. The semi-theoretical models for two-component materials were found inappropriate to estimate the thermal conductivity of dry soils. It comes out that the model developed by Cote and Konrad provides the best overall prediction for unsaturated sands available in the literature. Also, a parametric analysis is conducted to investigate the effect of thermal conductivity, water content and soil type on the horizontal ground heat exchanger design. The results show that a design pipe length for the horizontal ground heat exchanger can be reduced with an increase in soil thermal conductivity. The current research concludes that the dimension of the horizontal ground heat exchanger can be reduced to a certain extent by backfilling materials with a higher thermal conductivity of solid particles.

The aim of this paper is to establish the optimum fabrication condition of specimens, using the Vapor Deposition Polymerization Method(VDPM), which is one of modesto prepare functional organic thin films using a dry process, and to develop a thin film type humidity sensor which has good humidity sensitive characteristics. The inner part of the film became denser and roughness of the film surface eased as curing temperature increased so that thickness of the film could be made uniform. This also shows the appropriate curing temperature was $250^{\circ}C$. The basic structure of the humidity sensor is a parallel capacitor which consists of three layers of Aluminum/Polyimide/Aluminum. The result of SEM and AFM measurement shows that the thickness of PI thin films decreased and the refraction increased as curing temperature increased, which indicates that a capacitance-type humidity sensor utilizing polyimide thin film is fabricated on a glass substrate. The characteristics of fabricated samples were measured under various conditions, and the samples had linear characteristics in the range of 20-80 %RH, independent of temperature change, and low hysteresis characteristic.
Inkjet printing was successfully done using Cu nano powder ink after these Cu nano powders were dry-coated with 1-octanethiol for oxidation prevention. 1-octanethiol, which is Self-Assembled Multi-layers (SAMs), was coated approximately 10-nm thick on the surface of Cu nano powders. 1-Octanol, which has the same chain length as that for 1-octanethiol, was used as a solvent to make the ink for inkjet printing. As a result, the fabricated ink was dispersed for about 4 weeks, and after printing and heat treatment at $350^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, the resistivity for the printed pattern was measured to be $1.15{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

The environmental problems by using coolant demanded the new cooling methods. As one of them the studies on the dry grinding with compressed cold air have been done. The cooling method using compressed cold air was effdve thmugh going down the temperature of compressed air supplied below $-25^{\circ}C$ and inneasing the amount of mmpresd cold air, but had not enough cooling effect due to the low performance of lubrication. Therefore, the cooling methods using MQL(Minimum Quantity Lubrication) or mist newly were suggested. These two methods can satisfy both cooling effect and lubrication with only small amount of coolant, also has the benefit in the point of decreasing the envimnmental pollution. This paper focused on analyzing the grindmg characteristics of the cooling method using mid. The generated heat and grinding force of the cooling method using mist were compared with them of coolant and compressed cold air. And them grinding test according to the temperature of compressed cold air, mist spray amount and mist supply direction were done.
