  • A Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) has a torque pulsating inherently due to characteristics of pulse driving. A torque pulsating causes noise and sound vibration. To reduce a noise, a torque pulsating shall be controlled. Many efforts to make flat-topped current has been proposed to minimize a torque pulsating up to now. This paper proposed a control scheme to minimize the vibration of SRM by controlling the vibration directly by using of self-turning technique. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme is effective in reducing the torque ripple and noise.

  • 다채널 입체음향 시스템은 다수의 스피커를 사용하여 입체음향을 재현하므로 바이너럴 사운드 시스템에 비해 정확한 정위감과 넓은 sweet spot를 얻을 수 있다. 다채널 입체음향 시스템의 스피커 구동 기법은 각 스피커들 사이의 크기를 조절하는 amplitude panning 방법이 주로 사용된다. 그러나 이 방법은 각 스피커들 사이의 거리가 다르게 배치될 경우 성능이 저하되므로 본 논문에서는 각 스피커들의 위치가 다를 경우에도 손쉽게 설계가 가능한 스피커 구동방법을 제안한다.

  • This study is to develop a device of bath-seat with massage which is attached to bath-seat and is able to sustain massage on perineal region and anus effectively. And also develop new programmed driving-seat that is able to protect drowsiness. This seat is operated easily by user controlling time period (eg. 30 minutes or 60 minutes) of vibration. During the vibration, user can make a choice of making n sound which is proved as a better effects for concentration and comfort.

  • In order to apply for pickling line in cold rolling process, a high power magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer was developed. The transducer is expected to overcome the shortcomings of conventional high power ultrasonic transducers. The transducer consists of Fe-Co-V alloy sheets for the magnetostrictive material, an ultrasonic horn made of Hastelloy to withstand acid solution, and electric driving circuit. In the development, the transducer was designed with the theoretical and numerical methods such as finite element method, and was characterized with experimental water tanks.   • In this paper, the architecture of a safe stove with an automatic fire suppression function using a sound wave fire extinguisher has been proposed and developed for the first time. A microcontroller connected to a fire sensor detects and suppresses a fire by driving a fire extinguisher. The sound wave fire extinguisher is composed of a speaker and collimator, and is driven by a driver module including an audio amplifier. The attenuation of the sound wave is reduced by preventing the sound diffusion with an enclosure surrounding a stove. The frequency of the sound wave is set to 50 Hz, and the sound pressure of 93 dBA is measured at the distance of 0.5 m. It takes maximum 8 and 15 seconds to suppress the flame from 7-cc and 14-cc flammable liquid, respectively, which corresponds to 24% and 42% of the natural extinguishing time. Since the proposed safe stove is non-toxic and leaves no residues over the conventional ones, it would combine with various home appliances to suppress early-stage fires and prevent fire expansion.

Estimation of Total Sound Pressure Level for Friction Noise Regarding a Driving Vehicle using the Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm (확장형 칼만필터 알고리즘을 활용한 차량 주행에 따른 마찰소음의 총 음압레벨 예측)

  • PURPOSES : This study is to predict the Sound Pressure Level(SPL) obtained from the Noble Close ProXimity(NCPX) method by using the Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm employing the taylor series and Linear Regression Analysis based on the least square method. The objective of utilizing EKF Algorithm is to consider stochastically the effect of error because the Regression analysis is not the method for the statical approach. METHODS : For measuring the friction noise between the surface and vehicle's tire, NCPX method was used. With NCPX method, SPL can be obtained using the frequency analysis such as Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT), Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Constant Percentage Bandwidth(CPB) Analysis. In this research, CPB analysis was only conducted for deriving A-weighted SPL from the sound power level in terms of frequencies. EKF Algorithm and Regression analysis were performed for estimating the SPL regarding the vehicle velocities. RESULTS : The study has shown that the results related to the coefficient of determination and RMSE from EKF Algorithm have been improved by comparing to Regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The more the vehicle is fast, the more the SPL must be high. But in the results of EKF Algorithm, SPLs are irregular. The reason of that is the EKF algorithm can be reflected by the error covariance from the measurements.

Stress Detection of Railway Point Machine Using Sound Analysis (소리 정보를 이용한 철도 선로전환기의 스트레스 탐지)

  • Railway point machines act as actuators that provide different routes to trains by driving switchblades from the current position to the opposite one. Since point failure can significantly affect railway operations with potentially disastrous consequences, early stress detection of point machine is critical for monitoring and managing the condition of rail infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a stress detection method for point machine in railway condition monitoring systems using sound data. The system enables extracting sound feature vector subset from audio data with reduced feature dimensions using feature subset selection, and employs support vector machines (SVMs) for early detection of stress anomalies. Experimental results show that the system enables cost-effective detection of stress using a low-cost microphone, with accuracy exceeding 98%.

PROCESS OF DESIGNING BODY STRUCTURES FOR THE REDUCTION OF REAR SEAT NOISE IN PASSENGER CAR

  • This study analyzes the interior noise that is generated during acceleration of a passenger car in terms of car body structure and panel contribution. According to the transfer method, interior noise is classified into structure-borne noise and air-borne noise. Structure-borne noise is generated when the engine's vibration energy, an excitation source, is transferred to the car body through the engine mount and the driving system and the panel of the car body vibrates. When structure-borne noise resonates in the acoustic cavity of the car interior, acute booming noise is generated. This study describes plans for improving the car body structure and the panel form through a cause analysis of frequency ranges where the sound pressure level of the rear seat relative to the front seat is high. To this end, an analysis of the correlation between body attachment stiffness and acoustic sensitivity as well as a panel sensitive component analysis were conducted through a structural sound field coupled analysis. Through this study, via research on improving the car body structure in terms of reducing rear seat noise, stable performance improvement and light weight design before the proto-car stage can be realized. Reduction of the development period and test car stage is also anticipated.

Enhanced Approach Using Computational and Experimental Method for the Analysis of Loudspeaker System

  • Enhanced approach using computational and experimental method is proposed and performed to describe very well the behavior of loudspeaker than conventional method. Proposed procedure is composed of four parts. First, Thiele-Small parameters for test loudspeaker are identified by an electrical impedance method like as a delta mass method. Second part includes the processes to measure physical properties. Physical data like masses and thicknesses of loudspeaker's components are measured by an electrical precision scale and a digital vernier caliper. Third, the identified Thiele-Small parameters are proposed to be used as load boundary conditions for vibration analysis instead of electromagnetic circuit analysis to get a driving force upon bobbin part. Also, these parameters and physical data are used to modify physical properties required for computation to accommodate simulated sound pressure level with measured one for loudspeaker enclosure system. These data like as Young's modulus and thickness for a diaphragm are required for vibration analysis of loudspeaker but not measured accurately. Finally, it was investigated that simulated sound pressure level with full acoustic modeling including an acoustic port for test loudspeaker agreed with experimental result very well in the midrange frequency band(from 100 Hz to 2,000 Hz). In addition, several design parametric study is performed to grasp acoustical behaviors of loudspeaker system due to variations of diaphragm thicknesses and shapes of dust cap.

  • In order to keep the market competitiveness, it is desirable for automotive manufacturer to meet the customer's various aspects of requirements. The overall NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) performance has been an important measure when evaluating overall vehicle performance, product quality, and enhancing customers' loyalty to the product. The noise and vibration, while the engine is idling, has been brought particular attention to the drivers and passengers, because they encounter the operation conditions quite frequently without other masking noise sources: wind noise, road noise, and even powertrain radiated noise at higher speed driving. The specific noise, defined as 'CHIT' noise, has been identified as a potential customer issue, from the Pickup Truck with newly developed V8 powertrain. This paper describes the definition of the noise, identifying the potential sources, and noise radiation mechanisms, based on series of powertrain and vehicle test and verification processes. Then, based on the root-cause identified, the design change has been proposed and validated with several vehicles in order to have a complete satisfaction of the customer.
