Traffic Information Service Model Considering Personal Driving Trajectories

  • In this paper, we newly propose a traffic information service model that collects traffic information sensed by an individual vehicle in real time by using a smart device, and which enables drivers to share traffic information on all roads in real time using an application installed on a smart device. In particular, when the driver requests traffic information for a specific area, the proposed driver-personalized service model provides him/her with traffic information on the driving directions in advance by predicting the driving directions of the vehicle based on the learning of the driving records of each driver. To do this, we propose a traffic information management model to process and manage in real time a large amount of online-generated traffic information and traffic information requests generated by each vehicle. We also propose a road node-based indexing technique to efficiently store and manage location-based traffic information provided by each vehicle. Finally, we propose a driving learning and prediction model based on the hidden Markov model to predict the driving directions of each driver based on the driver's driving records. We analyze the traffic information processing performance of the proposed model and the accuracy of the driving prediction model using traffic information collected from actual driving vehicles for the entire area of Seoul, as well as driving records and experimental data.

Development of Video Transmission Device for Monitoring of a Cable-Based Retractable Roof (케이블-기반 개폐식 지붕의 모니터링을 위한 영상 전송 장치 개발)

  • The cable-based retractable membrane roof makes it impossible to maintain its shape and stiffness during driving process, unlike the hard-type retractable roof. Consequently, monitoring using a relatively simple wireless video transmission device is required. However, since video data has a bigger transmission rating than other monitoring data in terms of the structure velocity or acceleration, there is a need to develop transmission device that is easy to install and entails low maintenance cost. This paper studies on a real-time video transmission system for monitoring the cable-based retractable membrane roof while driving. A video transfer software, using the mobile network, is designed and the embedded system is constructed. Ultimately, the data transmission server is tested. Connecting a trolley to the system allows testing of the validity and efficiency of the developed system through the video data transmitted in the driving process. Result of the test shows that the developed system enables multi-device data transfer with monitoring via the mobile network.

Thermal Characteristic Analysis of IPMSM for Traction Considering a Driving Pattern of Urban Railway Vehicles (도시철도차량의 운행패턴을 고려한 견인용 IPMSM의 열 특성 분석)

  • In this paper, temperature change properties on the 210kW-class Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) are performed with the cooling performance of a water cooling device through the thermal characteristic analysis of the IPMSM considering a real driving pattern of urban railway vehicles. First, the thermal analysis modeling of 210kW-class IPMSM, which is an alternative to the conventional induction motor, and its water cooling device is conducted. Next, the thermal characteristic analysis of the IPMSM considering a real driving pattern of urban railway vehicles is performed using 2-Dimensional FEM tool. Finally, the calculated characteristic results are analyzed. Consequently, it is confirmed that the internal temperature of the 210kW-class IPMSM may be lowered to about 42~52% by maintaining the coolant flow rate of the water cooling device (Cross sectional shape of the pipe has 220mm width and 10mm height) for 0.2kg/s level.

Simulation Study on the Safety of a Fastening Device of Agricultural By-product Collector (동역학 시뮬레이션을 통한 농업부산물 수집기 체결장치의 안전성 분석)

  • In this study, the safety of fastening device for the agricultural by-product collector was evaluated according to the driving ground conditions by deriving the stress, static safety factor, and fatigue life using dynamic simulation. A 3D modeling of agricultural by-product collector was carried out, and simulation model was developed by applying the material properties. As a result of dynamic simulation, the magnitude of the maximum stress generated in the fastening device was the highest when driving on the flat off-road, followed by sloped pave-road and flat pave-road. Static safety factor and fatigue life were the highest when driving on the flat pave-road, followed by sloped pave-road and flat off-road. The safety of fastening device was confirmed that static safety factor was more than 1.0 and service life exceeded 9 years in all driving ground conditions.

  • Worldwide, studies on intelligent vehicles for the convenience of drivers have been actively conducted as the number of cars has increased. However, vehicle convenience enabled by buttons lowers the concentration on driving and hence poses as a huge threat to the safety of the driver. The use of one of the convenient features, impaired driving auxiliary equipment, is limited because of its complex usage, and this device also hinders the front view of the driver. This paper proposes a vehicle-control device for controlling the convenient features as well as changes in speed and direction using gestures and motions of the driver. This device consists of an ultrasonic sensor for recognizing movement, an arduino for accepting signal control functions and servo and DC motors apply to various vehicle parts. Firstly, the vehicle-control device was designed using a 3D CAD program known as Solid-works based on the size of the steering wheel. Then, through simulations, a suitable length for minimizing the absorbent between ultrasonic sensors was confirmed using a program known as COMSOL Multiphysics. Finally, simulation results were verified through experiments, and the optimal size of the device was identified through the number of errors.

Identifying the effects of advanced warning devices on the driving behaviors of commercial vehicle drivers (첨단경고장치가 사업용 차량 운전자의 운전행태에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • PURPOSES : This study aims to analyze how the installation of advanced warning devices affects individual drivers' driving behaviors with operating record data collected from 100 vehicles. METHODS : With collected data, the changes in individual drivers' driving behaviors, such as Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), were investigated with respect to the cumulative distance traveled and driving time. For the analysis, operating record data collected from 100 vehicles for seven months were used. RESULTS : The results showed that individual drivers' driving behaviors could be categorized into six different types. In addition, most of the drivers showed unstable warning patterns in the initial stage after installation of an advanced warning device. Approximately 40% of vehicles equipped with advanced warning systems were found to have positive effects, indicating that the frequencies of both FCW and LDW had been continuously decreasing after installation of the system. CONCLUSIONS : The warning device might be helpful for making drivers' driving behaviors safer. Driving behaviors during the initial stage of the system installation, which might be regarded as an adaptation phase, were found to be very unstable compared with normal situations, indicating that adequate education and training should be provided to all the drivers to prevent operator disruption at the initial installation of the system.

  • Digital speedometer which is supposed to provide the basic data for analyzing human factors of drivers has a limitation for human behavior studies of drivers, because it records limited driving information including GPS velocities. Besides, Black Box, which is currently being actively commercialized in the market, records mostly vehicles' risky patterns rather than drivers' behaviors. As a result, it also shows a limit to analyze dangerous driving patterns. This study performed a risky driving study for human factor analysis. This study conducted before and after comparisons for real time warning study using a risky driving judgment device. The analysis was conducted based on Longitudinal acceleration, Lateral acceleration, and Yaw rate of vehicles.

This electric power system obviously comprises power switching devices and drivers to run them. And this system has the topology comprised one/many arm(s), - each arm has high side switching device and low side switching device. Transformer, photocoupler, and HVIC having functions of isolation and level shift which are important thing to drive high side switching device are used as component of drivers in conventional apparatus. Piezoelectric transformers are proposed in this paper, and applied to drive high side swiching device. Through experiments, the possiblities of driving high side switching device are presented and the problems are mooted concurrently. But, we also consider a counterplan for solving the mooted trouble issues.
