This work proposes a highly efficient sensorless motor driver chip for various permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) in a wide power range. The motor driver chip is composed of two important parts. The digital part is a sensorless controller consisting mainly of an angle estimation block and a speed control block. The analog part consists of a gate driver, which is able to sense the phase current of a motor. The sensorless algorithms adapted in this paper include a sliding mode observer (SMO) method that has high robust characteristics regarding parameter variations of PMSMs. Fabricated SMO chips detect back electromotive force signals. Furthermore, motor current-sensing blocks are included with a 10-bit successive approximation analog-to-digital converter and various gain current amplifiers for proper sensorless operations. Through a fabricated SMO chip, we were able to demonstrate rated powers of 32 W, 200 W, and 1,500 W.
Plasma display panels (PDPs) have a serious thermal problem, because the luminance efficiency of a conventional PDP is about 1.5 1m/W and it is less than $3\~5\;lm/W$ of a cathode ray tube (CRT). Thus there is a need for improving the luminance efficiency of the PDP. There are several approaches to improve the luminance efficiency of the PDP and we adopted a driving PDP at high frequency range from 400kHz up to over 700kHz. Since a PDP is regarded as an equivalent inherent capacitance, many types of sustaining drivers have been proposed and widely used to recover the energy stored in the PDP. However, these circuits have some drawbacks for driving PDPs at high frequency ranges. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the parasitic components on the PDP itself and on the driver when the reactive energy of the panel is recovered. Various drivers are classified and evaluated based on their suitability for high frequency drivers. Finally, a current-fed driver with a DC input voltage bias is proposed. This driver overcomes the effect of parasitic components in the panel and driver. It fully achieves a ZVS of all full-bridge switches and reduces the transition time of the panel polarity. It is tested to validate the high frequency sustaining driver and the experimental results are presented.
In recent years, the increasing interest in health-care requires the industrial products to be well-designed ergonomically. In the commercial vehicle industry, several researchers have demonstrated the driver's posture has great effect on the orthopedic desease such as fatigue, back pain, scoliosis, and so on. However, the existing sensor systems developed for measuring the driver posture in real time have suffered from inaccuracy and low reliability issues. Here, we suggest our smart vehicle seat system capable of real-time driver posture monitoring by using the air bag sensor package with high sensitivity and reliability. The ergonomic numerical model which can evaluate a driver's posture has been developed on the basis of the human body segmentation method followed by simulation-based validation. Our experimental analysis of obtained pressure distribution of a vehicle seat under the different driver's postures revealed our smart vehicle system successfully achieved the driver's real-time posture data in great agreement with our numerical model.
Driving is a complex vigilance task that includes improper lookout, excessive speed and inattention. The primary objective of this research is to detect driver drowsiness so that the driver can be alerted to an impending traffic accident in performance. We developed the automatic detection and warning system during drowsy driving. A drowsiness detection system must be able to monitor driver status and detect the detrimental changes of a driver performance. Eyeblink has been found to be a reliable factor of drowsiness detection in earlier studies. As an additional parameter, we also considered the yawning which often occurs in a low vigilance state and predicts the drowsy state. We used a computer vision method to extract the eyeblink and yawning in the face image sequences. When the drowsy state was detected, the driver was refreshed by alarming device and menthol scent generator after deciding the warning level by fuzzy logic. For the evaluation of our system, we measured the physiological parameters such as EOG and EEG. The results indicated that it is possible to detect and alert the driver drowsiness temporarily or continuously by using our system.
We studied the problem of driver's low vigilance state which is related to the one reason of traffic accidents. In this paper, we developed the drowsiness warning system for a drowsy driver. To extract the eyes and mouth from the driver's facial image in real time, a computer vision method was used. The eye blink duration and yawning were used as measurement parameters of drowsiness detection. When the drowsy state of a driver was detected, the driver was refreshed by the scent generator and the alarm. Also, the driver's bio-signal was acquired and analyzed to measure the vigilance state.
The necessity of error test module is increasing as development of embedded Linux device driver. I insert the test code to verify the USB device driver. I test the suggested error test module for the USB storage device driver. I experiment error test in this module.
The purpose of this study was conducted to make a comparative biomechanical analysis of X-factor and X-factor stretch during driver and iron swing. The subjects were composed of 10 professional golfers with more than 10 years career. The result was as follows: First, the analysis of the back swing with driver and iron swing showed no differences statistically between both the timing in horizontal rotating of shoulder and hip, the time required for X-factor stretch also showed no differences statistically. Second, the back swing with a driver swing showed more maximum horizontal rotation of shoulder and hip joint than the back swing with an iron swing, but the twist of shoulder and hip that was X-factor stretch angle showed no difference. Third, the GRF of the max value for the left and right foot during shoulder and hip horizontal rotation of back swing showed no differences statistically in the movement of driver and iron swing during the back swing, and the GRF of X-factor stretch for the left and right foot showed no differences statistically in driver and iron swing. Therefore the result of this research showed that the operation of torso(X-factor stretch) and weight shifting were similar although the horizontal rotation of body was different during the driver and iron swing.

Because the brightness of an AMOLED is determined by the flowing current, each pixel of AMOLED operates via A current driving method. Therefore, it is necessary to supply power to adjust the amount of current according to THE user's requirement for AMOLED driving. In this study, an IP driver block was designed and a simulation was conducted for an AMOLED display, which supplies power as selected by users. The IP driver design focused on regulating the output power due to the OLED characteristics for the diode electric current according to the voltage to be activated by pulse-skipping mode (PSM) under low loads, and 1.5 MHz pulse-width modulation (PWM) for medium/high loads. The IP driver was designed to eliminate the ringing effects appearing from the dis-continue mode (DCM) of the step-up converter. The ringing effects destroy the power switch within the IC, or increase the EMI to the surrounding elements. The IP driver design minimized this through a ringing killer circuit. Mobile applications were considered to enable true shut-down capability by designing the standby current to fall below $1{\mu}A$ to disable it. The driver proposed in this paper can be applied effectively to the same system as the AMOLED display dual power management circuit.

In this paper, we propose a new safety system composed of wearable devices, driver's seat belt, and integrating controllers. The wearable device and driver's seat belt capture driver's biological information, while the integrating controller analyzes captured signal to alarm the driver or directly control the car appropriately according to the status of the driver. Previous studies regarding driver's safety from driver's seat, steering wheel, or facial camera to capture driver's physiological signal and facial information had difficulties in gathering accurate and continuous signals because the sensors required the upright posture of the driver. Utilizing wearable sensors, however, our proposed system can obtain continuous and highly accurate signals compared to the previous researches. Our advanced wearable apparatus features a sensor that measures the heart rate, skin conductivity, and skin temperature and applies filters to eliminate the noise generated by the automobile. Moreover, the acceleration sensor and the gyro sensor in our wearable device enable the reduction of the measurement errors. Based on the collected bio-signals, the criteria for identifying the driver's condition were presented. The accredited certification body has verified that the devices has the accuracy of the level of medical care. The laboratory test and the real automobile test demonstrate that our proposed system is good for the measurement of the driver's condition.
This study is interested in aberrant driver behaviour. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of error and lapse on driving behaviour of elderly drivers. In order to estimate the errors and lapses, 'Driver Behaviour Questionnaire(DBQ) was used and tested with 883 drivers. Among them 175 of young drivers(younger than 25) and 150 of elderly drivers(older than 65) answered their driving patterns; driving history, annual mileage, the frequency of committing traffic violation, and experience of accident within 5 years. Elderly driver's data were collected by face to face interview. The factors of aberrant driver behaviour were analyzed and the DBQ score was compared by the age. The aberrant driver behaviour was consisted of 3 factors; violations, errors and lapses. Elderly driver's DBQ score was lower than young driver's. Elderly and young drivers showed longer driving history. were in low DBQ score group. Elderly drivers had high error score and young drivers had high violation score. Young driver's aberrant driving behaviour was associated with annual mileage, the frequency of committing traffic violation. Elderly driver's aberrant driving behaviour was associated with annual mileage, experience of accident. Specially elderly drivers, whose violation, error, lapse score was high answered more committing experience of accident within 5 years.
