Here we describe the formation of a self-assembled film of thin multiwalled carbon Nanotubes(t-MWNT) modified with hydroxy groups through hydrogen peroxide treatment. Morphologies of t-MWNT films could be controlled by the various coating method, such as filtering, drop casting, spraying method, etc. The results show that on densification of the CNT suspension during drying, multiple hydroxy group-modified MWNTs can be self-assembled through strong surface hydrogen bond interaction while MWNTs usually exist an entangled state in the film. The interaction between t-MWNT was illustrated from Raman spectrum of spray coated films.

Plasmas in saline solutions receive considerable attention in recent years. How the operating parameters influence the plasma characteristics and how the electrode erosion occurs have been topics that require further study. In the first part of this talk, the effect of the frequency on the plasmas characteristics in saline solution driven by 50~1000 Hz AC power will be presented. Two distinct modes, namely bubble and jetting modes, are identified. The bubble mode occurs under low frequencies. In this mode, one mm-sized bubble is tightly attached to the electrode tip and oscillates with the applied voltage. With an increase in the frequency, it shows the jetting mode, in which many smaller bubbles are continuous formed and jetted away from the electrode surface. Multiple mechanisms that are potentially responsible to such a change in bubble dynamics have been proposed and the dominant mechanism is identified. From the Stark broadening of the hydrogen optical emission line, electron densities in both modes are estimated. It shows clearly that the driving frequency greatly influences the bubble dynamics, which in turn alters the plasma behavior. In the second part, the study of the erosion of a tungsten electrode immersed in saline solution under conditions suitable for bio-medical applications is presented. The electrode is immersed in 0.1 M saline solution and is positively or negatively biased using a DC power source up to 600 V. It is identified that when the electrode is positively biased, erosion by the surface electrolytic oxidation is the dominant mechanism with an applied voltage below 150 V. An increase in the applied voltage leads to the formation of the plasma and the damage by the plasma and the thermal effect becomes more prominent. The formation of the gas film at the electrode surface leads to the formation of the plasma and hinders the electrolytic erosion. In the negatively-biased electrode, no electrolytic oxidation is seen and the damage is mostly likely due to the plasma erosion and the thermal effect.

We have studied the narrow viewing angle liquie crystal displays (LCDs) using a hybrid aligned nematic liquid crystal (LC) cell driven by a fringe field. The device using a LC with positive dielectric anisotropy has a relatively low transmittance. This paper describes how to improve light efficiency by optimizing electrode structure. The results show that the device exhibits a high transmittance of 90%, low driving voltage and narrow viewing angle less than $20^{\circ}$ along horizontal direction which is highly effective for private display application.
Hydrogen is considered a potential future energy source. Among other applications of hydrogen, hydrogen-rich water is emerging as a new health care product in industrial areas. Water electrolysis is typically used to generate a hydrogen rich water system. We annealed 10AA carbon paper in air to use it as an electrode of a hydrogen rich water generator. Driven by annealing, structural changes of the carbon paper were identified by secondary electron microscope analysis. Depending on the various annealing temperatures, changes of the hydrophilic characteristics were demonstrated. The crystal structures of pristine and heat-treated carbon paper were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Improvement of the efficiency of the electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction was measured via linear voltammetry. The optimized annealing temperature of 10AA carbon paper showed the possibility of using this material as an effective hydrogen rich water generator.
We propose a new PDP cell structure named DIDE (Dual Ignition Discharge Electrodes) structure with a long electrode gap to realize a high luminous efficacy. Suggested DIDE structure basically has a long electrode gap $(200{\mu}m{\sim}400{\mu}m)$, nevertheless, because of auxiliary electrodes formed on the front panel, can be driven at relatively low voltage. The discharge characteristic of DIDE structure was much different from that of conventional structure, which was analyzed by IR emission images using IICCD (Image Intensified Charge Coupled Device). The study can explain some particular characteristics of DIDE structure. As a result, the long electrode gap and low voltage effect can be expected in DIDE structure, and a very high luminous efficacy of 7.5 lm/W has been achieved in monochrome green test panel adopting the new cell structure with Ne-Xe (12%) mixture at 400 torr.
A method is described for the design and fabrication of the sensor interface circuits on the Clark electrodes for the dissolved oxygen(DO). The discussion includes a method for the +5 V single-supply driving for the sensor circuits, which has low power comsumption for the front-end electronics. DO probe under test is composed of the Clark electrode with silver anode, gold cathode and the electrolyte of half saturated KCI solution and the FEP teflon memtrance for the oxygen penetration. Typical polarograms for the DO probes by using this sensor circuit reveals high accuracy over 99% of the I to V conversion. Partial pressure of oxygen obtained from the polarograms are well suited to the results calculated. It is expected that the proposed sensor circuits can be utilized into the customized IC for the battery-driven small-size DO meters.
This paper presents the electro-luminescence (EL) display lamp which is patterned on a curved surface by the pad printing method. The printing methods, including the gravure, screen, flexo, inkjet, and pad printing, have an advantage of one-step direct patterning. However, in general, the printing and semi-conductor process, except pad printing method, cannot be applied for patterning on a curved surface. Thus, in this paper, we used pad printing method for patterning an EL display lamp on a curved surface. The EL display lamp consists of 5 layers: Bottom electrode; Dielectric layer; Phosphor; Transparent electrode; Bus electrode. Finally, we printed EL display lamp on a dish, which has a radius of curvature 80mm. The EL display lamp was driven at AC 200V of 1kHz.
Two new cell structures for optical compensated bend were proposed. There are two groups of slit electrodes, which are driven by two different signals corresponding to the entire electrode as common electrode. The transmittance was enhanced without increasing the response time and light leakage. Compared with the traditional OCB mode, the increment of the transmittance of each kind is about 90% and 30%.
EEFLs are mostly driven by sinusoidal wave driving method although EEFLs (External Electrode Fluorescent Lamps) are driven by both sinusoidal wave and square wave. The sinusoidal driving method reduces the cost and allows more power efficiency since this driving method can reduce the voltage stress of EEFL inverter switches and achieve the soft switching of the switches. And a transformer should be used in the inverter since the high voltage should be applied to the both ends of EEFL to turn on the lamp. However, the power loss mainly occurs at the transformer in the sinusoidal wave driving method. In order to remove the transformer which makes the power loss, a new method is presented. In this paper, the square wave is applied directly to the both ends of EEFL by a proposed two-stage inverter. Moreover, the luminance and power efficiency will be compared between the common sinusoidal wave driving method and square wave driving method.

The hydrogen($H_2$) is promising energy carrier of renewable energy in the microgrid system such as small village and military base due to its high energy density, pure emission and convenient transportation. $H_2$ can be generated by photocatalytic water splitting, gasification of biomass and water electrolysis driven by solar cell or wind turbine. Solid oxide electrolysis cells(SOECs) are the most efficient way to mass production due to high operating temperature improving the electrode kinetics and reducing the electrolyte resistance. The SOECs are consist of nickel-yttria stabilized zirconia(NiO-YSZ) fuel electrode / YSZ electrolyte / lanthanum strontium manganite-YSZ(LSM-YSZ) air electrode due to similarity to Solid Oxide Fuel Cells(SOFCs). The Ni-YSZ most widely used fuel electrode shows several problems at SOEC mode such as degradation of the fuel electrode because of Ni particle's redox reaction and agglomeration. Therefore Ni-YSZ need to be replaced to an alternative fuel electrode material. In this study, We studied on the Double perovskite $PrBrMnO_{5+{\delta}}$(PBMO) due to its high electric conductivity, catalytic activity and electrochemical stability. PBMO was impregnated into the scaffold electrolyte $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Ga_{0.85}Mg_{0.15}O_{3-{\delta}}$(LSGM) to be synthesized at low temperature for avoiding secondary phase generated when it exposed to high temperature. The Half cell test was conducted at SOECs and SOFCs modes.
