Objective : The major risk factors of stroke are hyperlipemia, ateriosclerosis, hypertension, diabetis mellitus, smoking, drinking, age, personal history, family history etc. Hypertension, smoking and hyperlipemia are very important factor to promote stroke. We intended to observe the serum lipid density of 51 patients come to Joongpoong & Chronic Disease Center of Conmaul Oriental hospital, comparing with already reported study. Methods : We studied 51 stroke-patients( 38 cerebral infarction, 13 intracerebral hemorrhage) of Conmaul Oriental hospital, Department of oriental internal medicine, Joongpoong & Chronic Disease Center from January 1. 1999 to August 31. 2000, which examined by neurologic test, brain-CT, brain-MRI. . We used DOSHISA TBA-30FR(Japan) as instrument for measuring total cholesterol and triglyceride of serum. Results and conclusions : The results are as follows 1. The rate of hyperlipemia and presumed-hyperlipemia is higher in female patient-group than male patient-group. 2. The rate of hyperlipemia and presumed-hyperlipemia is higher in drinking group than non-drinking group. 3. The rate of hyperlipemia and presumed-hyperlipemia is higher in hypertension group than normotention group.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate stress-related factors. Method: The subjects were 22,937 persons who had received health examination by Korean Medicine and submitted questionnaires for 8 months from March to November in 2011. The stress was measured by heart rate variability in an automobile manufacturing industry. We analyzed the relationship between stress and other factors including ages, smoke amount, drinking frequency, exercise frequency, occupational category, conjugal condition by multivariate analysis with SPSS ver. 19.0. Results: Comparing "normal" to "very bad" and "bad" level of stress, ages, drinking frequency, conjugal condition are not significant difference(p>0.05). But smoking amount and occupational category are significant difference(p<0.05). Whereas comparing "normal" to "very good" and "good" level of stress, ages, occupational category, conjugal condition, smoking amount, drinking frequency are not significant difference(p>0.05). Exercise is significant difference(p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that smoke is affected to stress negatively, whereas exercise is affected to stress positively.

Objectives: This study was aimed at finding out the current smoking situation of workers in the field of railroad electricity and vehicles and changes of their smoking behaviors after the raise of price of tobacco in 2015. Methods: With a self-administered questionnaire conducted from February 9 to March 6 2015, one-way ANOVA and crosstabs(PASW Statistics Ver. 18.0) were conducted on the data of 626 people. Results: As the result, the smoking rate was 39.1% and 90.5% of the smoking experienced group showed some changes including cutting down on smoking due to raise of price of tobacco. Factors related to smoking included stress, the number of times of drinking, awareness of harmfulness of smoking, the number of days with hard exercise per week and the marital status. Conclusion: Therefore, it is assumed that there is necessity of top-down intervention using these factors to cut down the smoking rate.
The dietary habits of middle-aged obese, overweight and normal subjects were evaluated for the purpose of providing the background information of the degenerative disease control. A survey was conducted with 293 subjects (121 males and 172 females) between the ages 40-64 and they were divided into three groups of normal (BMI 18.5-22.9), overweight (BMI 23-24.9) and obese ($BMI\geq25$) based on the criteria of Korean Obesity Association (2000). The mean age of the subjects was $52.0\pm7.3(male)\;and\;51.9\pm6.9$ (female). Socioeconomic levels of subjects belong to the mid-upper class, since 71.9% of the males and 39.5% of the females received above a college education. More than 40% (44.6%) of males and 22.1% of females were obese, and educational background did not affect the obesity rate in males, whereas in females those who received lower education had a higher rate of obesity (p < 0.001). The subjects had a similar degree of drinking to the national average value. but had a lower degree of smoking. The obese group had the higher rate of drinking (p < 0.01) and smoking (p < 0.01). The annual increase in weight, more than 4 kg, was 8.8% for normal group and 30.9% for obese group. However, there were no differences in the mean annual increase in weight among the three groups. In females there were greater tendencies of weight changes in obese group (p < 0.05). About 44.9% of subjects responded that they were exercising regularly, and the obese group appeared to put into practice less than the other groups and to use more strenuous exercise. There was the greater rate of skipping dinner in the obese female group (p < 0.05). The unbalanced dietary pattern was found more with normal group than the other groups (p < 0.01). The food consumption frequency by food groups was not different among the groups. The obese group consumed less frequently meats, vegetables and fruits and had higher frequency in fish, legumes and their products, instant or fast food. In all subjects the higher rate of obesity was found with males than females and with those of heavier smoking and drinking, and in females the higher rate of obesity was found with lower education levels, skipping meals and having an unbalanced diet. In middle-aged subjects of this study with higher educational and socioeconomic background factors contributing to the effects of obesity may include smoking, drinking, educational background, skipping meals or unbalanced dietary pattern. The predictable characteristics for the development of obesity can be defined as sudden fluctuation of weights, exercise regularity and intakes of vegetables and fruits.
In order to find associated factors with alcohol drinking among female students, a survey was conducted of 1,073 female students of a women's university in Seoul from the 22nd of May to the 18th of June, 1995. The major results were as follows: 1. Among 1,073 respondents, 13.8% of them were regular drinkers, 71.8% of them were social drinkers. the alcohol drinking rate of female students had significantly different depending on their field of study. The time of their first drind varied: 2. 14.8% in junior nigh school, 30.2% in high school, 4.7% after high school, and 49.4% in college. 3. The major motivation to start drinking was 'social meeting' (45.4%), 'curiosity' (12.6%), and 'releasing stress' (5.5%). 4. The favorite alcohol of drinkers was beer (62.2%), Soju (25.6%), whisky (1.4%), Makkori (0.2%). 5. The frequency of alcohol drinking was 36.5% once a week, 32.8% 2~3 times per month. 15.7% more than twice a week and 8.4% once a month. 6. Among the respondents, 73.4% of them wanted a health education program about drinking. 7. The drinking of the father, mother, brother, sister, boy friend, girl friend had a statistically significant relation with the drinking of the respondents. 8. Meal regularity, balanced diet, smoking, and knowledge of alcohol drinking had a statistically significant relation with the drinking of the respondents. 9. A multiple logistic regression analysis showed that related factors for alcohol drinking were the following: health status, balanced diet, father's drinking, sister's drinking, boy friend's drinking, and smoking.
Recently the rate of adolescent smoking in Korea has increased rapidly, and various health problems related to smoking can be expected to increase in the future. Studies on smoking behavior report that assertiveness is important factor influencing on the adolescent smoking. Purpose: This study was conducted to develope a educational video for the purpose of adolescent's smoking prevention. Method: The 533 participating subjects, 269 in experimental group and 264 control group, in the study were 7th grade students. The content of video introduces three smoke tempting situations. The experimental group received 17 minute video education, and the control group did not receive any treatments. Result: The results show that the student's assertiveness was increased significantly in the experimental group after the video education. Student's attitude on smoking became more negative in the experimental group. However, in the control group, the intention, assertiveness, attitude was not changed. Conclusion: This assertiveness video can be useful educational resource for the smoking prevention program for adolescents. Also further study on longitudinal effect and application on drinking, drug abuse are needed.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes in smoking rates and smoking cessation plans before and after the cigarette price increases in 2015. Therefore, based on the National Health and Nutrition Survey, this study analyzes the correlation of the change in smoking rate and cessation plans with sociological variables (gender, age, income quintile, occupation, education level, hypertension, diabetes) and health behaviors (drinking, stress perception, obesity) in 2013 before the cigarette price increases and in 2015 and then in 2017. Results indicated that the smoking rate in 2013 was 23.3%, the smoking rate in 2015 was 20.5%, and the smoking rate in 2017 was 21.0%, indicating that the smoking rate decreased compared to before the cigarette price was raised. Among the sociological variables, the cigarette price increases showed a difference in the smoking rate of income, occupation, and education level, and health behavior was found to have no significant effect on smoking rate. In addition, the cigarette price increases showed a temporary effect on the increase in the smoking cessation plan, but the increase in the smoking cessation plan did not necessarily lead to decrease the smoking rate. Therefore, in the future, efforts will be needed at the national level to provide customized smoking cessation programs by gender, age, and social factors so that the smoking cessation plan can lead to decrease the smoking rate. In addition, Research on health behaviors that were not identifited in this study should also be conducted. We hope that this study will help the prediction of the impact of smoking rate in case the price increases policies are considered or implemented.
The objectives of this study were to analyze the socio-economical factors related to smoking and drinking behaviors using the Korea Welfare Panel data. The key variables were sex, age, frequency of health and medical facilities visit, subjective health level, smoking level, drinking level, depression symptoms, and low income level. Since the health variables in the Welfare Panel data were limited, the analysis was exploratory. In male population of those older than 30 years old, low income group people were more likely to smoke cigarettes than the general income population. In the result of the Chi square analysis, the smoking rate showed significantly different relationships with the different age groups, gender and income level. According to the descriptive analysis, persons with low income level were more likely to experience health risk behaviors and showed more medical service utilization. The utilization of the local public health centers was 4.6% for the Bow income level and 1% for the general level. The higher smoking rate was associated with the younger age, and the lower income. The smoking rate in the age category from 20 to 29 was 23.3% for the general level and 25% for the low income level. On the other hand, the drinking rate was even higher in the general families. The rates of non use of alcohol was 36.7% in the general families and 58.4% for the low income families. For both smoking and high risk drinking issues, demographic and sociological variables such as sex, age, education levels and income levels were analyzed, and there wer significant relationships. Health risk factors were serious for males, with age groups of 20's and 30's, lower education level, and in a low income family. In general, females were more unhealthy. The rates of smoking and drinking were higher in the low income level. Even in the health and nutrition survey results in 2005, persons in the low income class were experiencing poorer health in health level or the degree of action restriction. Since the effects of the health promotion could not be measured in a short period of time, it has not been easy to create the basis for the substantial effects. Factors related to health risks needs to be continuously studied using data from diverse field.
This study questionnaires 166 inpatients and outpatients with stroke in 8 hospitals, including Wonkwang University Gwangju Korean Hospital from July 2 to 31, 2001 in order to find out the influence of general nature, smoking, drinking, obesity, and perception of saltness of patients with stork on the outbreak of stroke and to examine important factors by dividing into hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke. Finally, collected data is analyzed statistically, using SPSS 7.5 statistics package. This study reaches a conclusion as follows. 1. For general nature, 86(51.8%) patients have hemorrhagic stroke and 80(48.2%), ischemic stroke in the rate of 1.59:1(male:female), suggesting that male's outbreak is more than female's. Outbreak age is ranged from 20 years to 90 years in order of 60's, 50's, and 40's. 50's-60's accounts for more than half percentage. 2. For smoking, 73(71.6%) of male patients has smoking experience and their 562% has ischemic stroke. Their cross-analysis for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke shows significant difference with $x^2=3.90$(p<0.05). 48.6% of patients with smoking experience is ranged from 1 to 10 a day in smoking quantity. 3. For drinking, 90(88.2%) of male patients has drinking experience and their 53.3% has hemorrhagicstroke. Their cross-analysis for hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke shows no significant difference with x2=3.40(p<0.1). 59.3% of patients with drinking experience is classified as a overdrinking group. 4. For obesity, low weight is 8(4.8%): normal, 111(66.9%): excessive, 40(24.1%), and obesity, 7(4.2%). In patients with hemorrhagic stroke, excessive weight and obesity are somewhat high(33.7%). The cross-analysis for male's hemorrhagic and ischemic stork by dividing BMI into more and less than 25 shows no significant difference with x=3.52(p<0.1). 5. For perception of saltness, 21(12.7%) patients eat flat: 76(45.8%) normally, and 69(41.5%), saltily. Many patients with ischemic stroke are classified as a group who eat saltily. The cross-analysis for male's hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke shows signifiant difference with x2=10.99(p<0.05). As this study has small sample and selects inpatient and outpatient in certain local hospital, it is difficult to generalize. But the cross-analysis of male's hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke shows signifiant difference in smoking and perception of saltness. Drinking and obesity are more important factors in hemorrhagic stroke and smoking and perception of saltness in ischemic stroke.

Purpose : This study was conducted to survey the preliminary data on risk behaviors and to identify the factors that prevent risk-behaviors in late adolescence. Methods : Freshmen(n=1,297) beginning the first semester in Korea University, Seoul, Korea completed self-administered risk behavior questionnaires, comprising 5 domains : demographics, smoking, drinking, drug abuse and sexual behavior. Results : The rate of smoking experience was higher in people having friends who smoke and the predictors of transition to current smoking were male gender, urban residence, friends' smoking, and nicotine dependence. The rate of high risk drinking was higher among students who are male and who had experience of heavy episodic drinking. The study group showed a low prevalence of narcotic users, but two-thirds of students could get medicine easily without prescriptions. The prevalence of sexual experience was 6.5 percent, and the sexual education was not a predictor of contraceptive behavior. The prevalence of homosexuality was 1.6 percent, and the rate of mostly heterosexuality was higher in female students. Conclusion : The main targets of youth health education should be campaigns aimed at atcessation of reinforcing risk behaviors and the development of a surveillance system for the prevention of chronic disease. These results can be used to find risk factors of health-risk behaviors among late adolescents.
