Performance Evaluation of Uplink ACK Packets Transmission IEEE 802.16e WiMAX Systems (IEEE 802.16e WiMAX 시스템에서 업링크 ACK 패킷 전송 성능평가)

  • The need for broadband wireless data networks such as IEEE 802.16e WiMAX systems increases as a variety of wireless information devices like smart phones are adopted rapidly in everyday life. Since most of mobile applications employ TCP as their transport layer protocol, the performance improvement of TCP in WiMAX systems is crucial. This paper proposes an efficient method to transmit uplink piggyback ACK packets by exploiting the uplink packet buffering which happens because of the resource allocation scheme of the WiMAX systems. The proposed method can support not only the ACK filtering but also the merging of the piggyback ACK packets. As a result, the bandwidth reduction in the piggyback ACK packet transmission leads to the improvement of the downlink throughput. The simulation results show that the bandwidth for the ACK packets reduces more than 90%, and the downlink throughput increases at least 30%.

  • This paper propose to methodology for deciding suitable bit size that minimizes hardware complexity and performance degradation from floating-point design the fixed-point implementation of downlink traffic channel of IEEE 802.16e OFDMA TDD system. One of the major considering issues for implementing fixed-point design is to select Saturation or Quantization properly with the knowledge of signal distribution by pdf or histogram. Also, through trial and error, we should execute exhaustive computer simulation for various bit sizes, hence obtain appropriate bit size while minimizing performance degradation. We carry out computer simulation to decide the optimized bit size of downlink traffic channel under AWGN and ITU-R M.1225 Veh-A channel model.

Analysis of Jamming Interference Characteristics in Nonlinear DRT Satellite Transponder System (비선형 DRT 위성 중계시스템의 재밍 간섭 특성 분석)

  • For the DRT satellite transponder system, BER and total SNR to be required in the earth terminal are evaluated under the condition of HPA nonlinearity in the FBJ(full-band jamming) or PBJ(partial-band jamming) of uplink and downlink. In case that the satellite Inter bandwidth( Ws) is same to the earth terminal bandwidth($W_r$),in conditions of uplink JSR 10[dB], downlink JSR 10[dB] and processing gain 30[dB], linear transponder system shows that uplink SNR needs to be 14.2[dB] to achieve the total SNR 10[dB] requirement in downlink SNR 14[dB]. However, Nonlinear transponder system with OBO(output backoff) 2[dB] requires 20.1 [dB] uplink SNR. From the above results, the nonlinearity of HPA in the satellite transponder causes the degradation of BER performance so that it is of interest to consider the power increase.

  • Cognitive radio (CR) technology is to maximize the spectrum utilization by allocating the unused spectrums to the unlicensed users. In CR environment, it is strictly required for the unlicensed users not to interference with the licensed users. Thus, it is essential to rely on the scheduling algorithm to avoid the interference when utilizing spectrum holes that are changing in time and frequency. However, the existing scheduling algorithms that are applied for the wireless communication environment considering the licensed users only is not appropriate for CR environment. In this paper, we propose downlink scheduling algorithm based on probability of incumbent user presence for cognitive radio networks. With computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed scheduling algorithm outperforms the conventional scheduling algorithm.

  • Recently, researches about downlink resource allocation algorithms applying SDMA to enhance the system throughput and cell coverage have begun. Most OFDM/SDMA based resource allocation algorithms have some limitations such that those only concentrate on maximizing the system throughput or can be applied in single cell environment. In this paper, we propose an OFDM/SDMA based downlink resource allocation algorithm which considers high layer QoS parameters suitable for the required data traffic and it also minimizes the system throughput loss and considers inter-cell interference from adjacent cells. so it can be adopted in multi-cell environment. We manifest the performance of the proposed algorithm in Ped A and SCME MIMO Channel Model.

  • This paper studies the design of a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, where a base station (BS) transmits independent messages to multiple users. The remarkable "dirty paper coding (DPC)" result was first presented by Costa that the capacity does not change if the Gaussian interference is known at the transmitter noncausally. While several implementable DPC schemes have been proposed recently for single-user dirty-paper channels, DPC is still difficult to implement directly in practical multiuser MIMO channels. In this paper, we propose a network channel matrix triangulation (NMT) algorithm for utilizing interference known at the transmitter. The NMT algorithm decomposes a multiuser MIMO channel into a set of parallel, single-input single-output dirty-paper subchannels and then successively employs the DPC to each subchannel. This approach allows us to extend practical single-user DPC techniques to multiuser MIMO downlink cases. We present the sum rate analysis for the proposed scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes approach the sum rate capacity of the multiuser MIMO downlink at moderate signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values.

Resource Allocation Scheme for Outage Enhancement in Downlink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access Systems Using Transmit Antenna Selection (송신 안테나 선택을 이용하는 하향링크 비직교 다중 접속 시스템에서 아웃티지 개선을 위한 자원 할당 기법)

  • In this paper, we consider a downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) using multiple transmit antennas, where the transmit antenna selection scheme is used to reduce the system complexity. Thus, in this paper, we propose radio resource allocation and receiver selection schemes in order to improve the outage probability performance of the downlink NOMA system using the transmit antenna selection scheme. In particular, the receiver selection scheme is a method of grouping the receivers to improve the outage probability performance, and the radio resource allocation scheme is a method of allocating radio resources to each group in order to enhance the outage probability performance. In addition, through the computer simulation under the assumption of independent Rayleigh fading channels, we show that the proposed radio resource allocation and receiver selection schemes can improve the outage probability performance at the expense of the sum rate performance.

Wideband Array Antenna Design for Ku-Band Satellite Communications Using Mixed Patches (혼합 패치를 이용한 Ku 대역 위성통신용 광대역 배열 안테나 설계)

  • This paper proposes a design of a wideband array antenna involving the downlink bands of fixed satellite service (FSS) and broadcasting satellite service (BSS) by applying two mixed patch sets. The proposed antenna is implemented on FR4 substrate by arranging rectangular patches in 6 by 2. To design a wideband antenna (10.7~12.75 GHz) covering both FSS downlink bands (10.7~10.95 GHz, 11.2~11.45 GHz) and BSS downlink bands (11.7~12.5 GHz, 12.2~12.75 GHz, 11.7~12.2 GHz), rectangular patches working at 11.5 GHz and 12.5 GHz are arranged alternately, and thus the proposed antenna can obtain a wide bandwidth equivalent to 30.8% of the center frequency. The proposed antenna was fabricated and measured, and the results are well matched with the simulated ones. From the performances, the proposed antenna can be applied to the receiving antenna for FSS and BSS downlinks.

  • In this paper, we first review a concept of hybrid division duplexing (HDD) scheme, which has been proposed as a new type of duplexing scheme useful for a next generation mobile communication system and its implementation issues, including the unified radio resource management for HDD scheme. The HDD scheme maintains the advantages of both TDD and FDD at the same time while providing a useful structure to control the inter-cell interference, caused by an asymmetric traffic load of multimedia services over uplink and downlink in the TDD scheme. Employing two frequency bands, one for TDD scheme and the other for FDD scheme, uplink is operating under the TDD scheme only, while downlink is operating under the TDD or FDD scheme, depending on the location of mobile station. In the HDD scheme, therefore, it must determine a type of duplexing scheme to employ in the downlink and futhermore, a ratio of uplink and downlink duration to meet a given traffic load of asymmetric service, which requires some unified radio resource management for handling the subsequent inter-cell interference. In this paper, we propose a distributed adaptive control approach as a means of unified radio resource management for a HDD system that maximizes the overall system efficiency by fully utilizing the resource in TDD band, while minimizing the inter-cell interference.

An Enhanced AGC Structure and P-SCH Detection Method for Initial Cell Search in 3GPP LTE FDD/TDD Dual Mode Downlink Receiver (3GPP LTE FDD/TDD 듀얼 모드 하향 링크 수신기의 초기 셀 탐색을 위한 개선된 AGC 구조 및 P-SCH 검출 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose an enhanced AGC (Automatic Gain Control) structure and P-SCH detection method for initial cell search in 3GPP (3rdGenerationPartnershipProject) LTE (Long Term Evolution) FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) / TDD (Time Division Duplex) dual mode system. Since TDD frame structure consists of uplink subframe and downlink subframe, conventional AGC structure causes P-SCH detection performance degradation by increase of AGC variation due to signal power difference between uplink and downlink subframe. Also, P-SCH detection performance is degraded by distortion of P-SCH correlation characteristic in frequency offset and multipath fading channel environments. Therefore, we propose an AGC structure which can minimize P-SCH detection performance degradation with stable operation in 3GPP LTE TDD mode as well as FDD mode. Also we propose a P-SCH detection method which can reduce distortion of correlation chareteristics in frequency offset and multipath fading environments and obtain good P-SCH detection performance. Simulation results show that the proposed AGC structure and P-SCH detection method have stable AGC operation and excellent P-SCH detection performance for 3GPP LTE TDD / FDD dual mode downlink receiver in various channel environments.
