A Study on the Interlaminar Fracture Toughness of Hybrid Composites (하이브리드 복합재료의 층간파괴인성치에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes the effect of loading rate, specimen geometries and material properties for ModeⅠ and Mode Ⅱ interlaminar fracture toughness of hybrid composite by using double cantilever beam (DCB) and end notched flexure (ENF) specimen. In the range of loading rate 0.2~20mm/min, there is found to be no significant effect of loading rate with the value of critical energy release rate (Gc).The value of Gc for variation of initial crack length are nearly similar values when material properties are CF/CF and GF/GF, however, the value of Gc are highest with the increasing intial crack length at CF/GF. The SEM photographs show good fiber distribution and interfacial bonding of hybrid composites when the moulding is the CF/GF.

A Correlation of Striation Spacing and DHC Velocity in Zr-2.5Nb Tubes (Zr-2.5Nb 압력관에서 Striation Spacing과 DHCV의 관계)

  • The objective of this study is to elucidate what governs delayed hydride cracking (DHC) in Zr-2.5Nb tubes by correlating the striation spacings with DHCV(DHC Velocity). To this end, DHC tests were conducted on the compact tension specimens taken from the Zr-2.5Nb tubes at different temperatures ranging from 100 to $300^{\circ}C$ with a 3 to 6 data set at each test conditions. The compact tension specimens were electrolytically charged with 27 to 87 ppm H before DHC tests. After DHC tests, the striation spacings and DHCV were determined with the increasing the test temperature and yield strength. The striation spacing and DHCV increased as a function of yield $strength^2$ and the temperature. Since the plastic zone size ahead of the crack tip can be represented by ${\sim}(K_{IH}/{\sigma}_{Y})^2$, we conclude that the striation spacing is governed by the plastic zone size which in turn determines a gradient of hydrogen concentration at the crack tip. The relationship between the plastic zone size and the striation spacing was validated through a complimentary experiment using double cantilever beam specimens. Two main factors to govern DHCV of Zr-2.5Nb tubes are concluded to be hydrogen diffusion and a hydrogen concentration gradient at the crack tip that are controlled by temperature and yield strength, respectively. The activation energy of DHCV in the Zr-2.5Nb tubes is discussed on the basis of temperature dependency of hydrogen diffusion and the striation spacing.

  • In this paper, the effect of cohesive laws on the finite element analysis of crack propagation using cohesive elements is investigated through three-point bending and double cantilever beam problems. The cohesive elements are implemented into ABAQUS/Standard user subroutines(UEL), and the shape of cohesive law is varied by changing parameters in polynomial functions of cohesive traction-separation relations. In particular, crack propagation behaviors are studied by comparing load-displacement curves of the analysis models which have different shapes of cohesive laws with the same values of fracture energy and cohesive strength. Furthermore, the influence of the element size on crack propagation is discussed in this study.

  • Accurate observation results of dynamic displacements are essential to the protection of civil structures. In this study, we evaluated the optimal methods of the RTK/GPS Accelerometer integration through comparison and analysis of several experiments results. Two methods will be used to calculate the dynamic displacements from the results of the acceleration data as well as two integration methods for measuring the dynamic, static, and quasi-static displacements by incorporating the displacement results from the RTK-GPS and Accelerometer. By using a Cantilever Beam and LVDT measurement, we were able to ensure that the different displacement comparisons would be reliable and accurate. As a results from experiments, the accelerometer processing method applied by use of accelerometers data was filtering with the double integral using FIR band-pass filter which is most optimal for assessing the dynamic displacements. Also, the integrated method using extracting substitution displacements is suitable for measuring synthetically the dynamic static and quasi-static displacements of civil structures with RTK-GPS and accelerometer.

DHC Characteristics of M11 Pressure Tube in Wolsong Unit 1

  • Delayed hydride cracking (DHC) velocity and threshold stress intensity factor for DHC ($K_{IH}$) tests in the radial direction on M11 pressure tube material in Wolsong unit 1 were carried out following the Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL) standard test procedure in order to identify the effect of undercooling on DHCV and to acquire the $K_{IH}$ data. The results showed that $K_{IH}$ 's were 8.8$\pm$0.8 MPa√m in the back offcut and 11.4$\pm$0.7 MPa√m in the front offcut. The fact that $K_{IH}$ in the front offcut is about 20% higher than that in the back offcut is attributed to the microstructural difference between the materials of the front and back ends. $K_{IH}$ 's in M11 pressure tube appeared to be higher than the values from the tubes made of double melted ingot reported earlier. This can be interpreted by the fact that very small amounts of Chlorine (Cl) and Phosphorus (P) are contained in the ingot and that the content of the harmful elements in the M11 pressure tube is equivalent to that made of a quadruple melting process. DHC velocities at 25$0^{\circ}C$ in the front offcut in the radial direction are measured to be 5~8$\times$10$^{-8}$ m/s. The results show that the prior thermal history change the DHC velocity significantly. This effect was confirmed by the experiment of undercooling prior to the DHC tests.DHC tests.

The Effects of the Initial Crack Length and Fiber Orientation on the Interlaminar Delamination of the CFRP/GFRP Hybrid Laminate (초기 균열길이 및 섬유방향이 CFRP/GFRP 하이브리드 적층재의 층간 파괴에 미치는 영향)

  • Considering the wind power system and the rotor blades which are composed of much technology, the wind power blade would be the most dangerous part because it revolves at high speed and weighs about dozens of tons, if the accident happens. Therefore, the light weight composite materials have been replacing as substitutional materials. The object of this study is to examine the delamination and damage for CFRP/GFRP hybrid composite that is used for strength improvement of a wind power blade. The influence of the initial crack length and fiber orientation for the interlaminar delamination was exposed for the blade safety. Plain woven CFRP instead of GFRP was inserted into the layer of the box spar for improving the strength and blade life. DCB(Double Cantilever Beam) specimen was used for evaluating fracture toughness and damage evaluation of interlaminar delamination. The material used in the experiment is a commercial material known as CF 3327 EPC in plain woven carbon prepreg(Hankuk Carbon Co.) and UD glass fiber prepreg(Hyundai Fiber Co.). From the results, crack growth rate is not so different according to the variation of the initial crack length. Mode I interlamainar fracture toughness of fiber direction $0^{\circ}$ is higher than that of $45^{\circ}$. Interlaminar fracture has an effect on fiber direction and K decreased with lower value according to increasing initial crack length. Also energy release rate fracture toughness was evaluated because CFRP/GFRP hybrid composite with a different thickness is under the mixed mode loading condition. The interlaminar fracture was almost governed by mode I fracture even though the mixed mode.

Measurements of the Adhesion Energy of CVD-grown Monolayer Graphene on Dielectric Substrates (단일층 CVD 그래핀과 유전체 사이의 접착에너지 측정)

  • To enhance the performance of graphene-based devices, it is of great importance to better understand the interfacial interaction of graphene with its underlying substrates. In this study, the adhesion energy of monolayer graphene placed on dielectric substrates was characterized using mode I fracture tests. Large-area monolayer graphene was synthesized on copper foil using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with methane and hydrogen. The synthesized graphene was placed on target dielectric substrates using polymer-assisted wet transfer technique. The monolayer graphene placed on a substrate was mechanically delaminated from the dielectric substrate by mode I fracture tests using double cantilever beam configuration. The obtained force-displacement curves were analyzed to estimate the adhesion energies, showing 1.13 ± 0.12 J/m2 for silicon dioxide and 2.90 ± 0.08 J/m2 for silicon nitride. This work provides the quantitative measurement of the interfacial interactions of CVD-grown graphene with dielectric substrates.

Interlaminar Fracture Toughness of Hybrid Composites Inserted with Different Kinds of Non-Woven Tissues : Part I-Mode I (종류가 다른 부직포가 삽입된 하이브리드 복합재료의 층간파괴인성 : Part I-Mode I)

  • In this study, the interlaminar fracture toughness in mode I of a hybrid composite inserted with different types of non-woven tissues was determined. The interlaminar fracture toughness in mode I is obtained by a double cantilever beam test. The experiment is performed using three types of non-woven tissues: 8 $g/m^2$ of carbon tissue, 10 $g/m^2$ of glass tissue, and 8 $g/m^2$ of polyester tissue. Considering a specimen with no non-woven tissue as a reference, the interlaminar fracture toughness in mode I of specimens inserted with non-woven carbon and glass tissues decreases by as much as 6.3% and 11.4%, respectively. However, the fracture toughness of a hybrid composite specimen inserted with non-woven polyester tissue increases by as much as 69.4%. It is considered that the specimen inserted with non-woven polyester tissue becomes cheaper, and lighter, and the value of the fracture toughness becomes much greater than that of the non-woven carbon tissue.

이온빔을 이용한 Prepreg의 표면처리가 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재의 파괴특성에 미치는 영향

  • 탄소섬유/에폭시 적충복합재는 경량성 및 비강도, 비강성이 우수해 최근 들어 항공기, 자동차, 우주선 등에 대한 적용이 급속도로 증가하고 있다. 그러나 적충복합재 구조물에 있어 최대 약점 중 하나는 적충된 면이 서로 떨어지는 충간분리가 발생 할 수 있다는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 탄소섬유/에폭시 적충복합재의 파괴특성을 향상시키기 위해 프리프레그 (prepreg)를 이온빔으로 표면처리하는 방법에 대해 연구하였다. 즉 프리프레그를 $Ar^+$ 이온도 움반응법에 의해 표면처리 하였으며 이를 적용, 열림모드 파괴특성을 검토하였다. 즉 표준 프리프레그와 표면처리 된 프리프레그를 이용 $0^{\circ}$ 단일방향 DCB(Double Cantilever Beam) 시편을 제작하였으며, 각각의 경우에 대하여 파괴시험을 수행하였다. 파괴시험으로부터 파괴 저항곡선(R-곡선)을 결정하여 이를 비교 검토함으로서 프리프레그의 표면처리가 파괴특성에 미치는 영향을 해석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 층간분리 길이가 동일한 경우 표면처리한 경우의 컴플라이언스가 표면처리 하지 않은 경우에 비해 작게 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 파괴하중 값은 컴플라이언스와 반대현상을 나타낸다. 즉 표면처리한 경우의 파괴하중 이 표면처리 하지 않은 경우에 비해 크게 나타남을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 표면처리 한 시편의 경우 R-곡선이 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 즉 표면처리 한 경우의 열림모드 파괴이성, $G_{Ic}$ 값은 표준 시편의 값보다 24% 높았다. 이는 프리프레그의 표면처리 가 충과 충간의 접착강도를 증가시키고 또한 탄소섬유와 에폭시 간의 계면력을 증가시킨데 기인하는 것으로 사려된다.되었으며, duty-on 시간의 증가에 따라 $Cr_2N$ 상의 형성이 점점 많아져 80% duty-on 시간 경우에는 거의 CrN과 $Cr_2N$ 상이 공존하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 duty-on 시간이 증가할수록 회절피크의 세기가 증가하여 결정화가 더 많이 진행되어짐을 알 수 있었다. 마찬가지로 바이어스 펄스이 주파수에 다른 결정성의 변화도 펄스의 주파수가 증가할수록 박막이 결정성이 좋아지고 $Cr_2N$ 상이 쉽게 형성되었다. 증착 진공도에 따른 결정성은 상대적으로 질소의 농도가 높은 낮은 진공도에서는 CrN 상이 주로 형성되었으며, 반대로 높은 진공도에서는 $Cr_2N$ 상이 많이 만들어졌다. 즉 $1.3{\times}10^{-2}Torr$의 증착 진공도에서는 CrN 상만이 보이는 반면 $9.0{\tiems}1-^{-2}Torr$ 진공도에서부터 $Cr_2N$ 상이 형성되기 시작하여 $5.0{\tiems}10^{-2}Torr$ 진공도에서는 두개의 상이 혼재되어 있음을 알 수 있었다. 박막의 내마모성을 조사한 결과 CrN 박막의 마찰 계수는 초기에 급격하게 증가한 후 0.5에서 0.6 사이의 값으로 큰 변화를 보이지 않았으며, $Cr_2N$ 박막도 비슷한 거동을 보였다.차 이, 목적의 차이, 그리고 환경의 의미의 차이에 따라 경관의 미학적 평가가 달라진 것으로 나타났다.corner$적 의도에 의한 경관구성의 일면을 확인할수 있지만 엄밀히 생각하여 보면 이러한 예의 경우도 최락의 총체적인 외형은 마찬가지로 $\ulcorner$순응$\lr
