SURGICAL CORRECTION OF A CUPID'S BOW USING A DOUBLE Z-PLASTY: REPORT OF A CASE (중복 Z-성형술을 이용한 큐피드활의 교정)

  • Cupid's bow, upper lip, columella, and ala of nose are esthetically important, in which their symmetrical plasties determine success or failure of the surgery in cleft lip and palate patients. Z-palsty and its modifications are simple and effective. The double Z-plasty is economical in surgical time and esthetics in reconstructing the cupid's bow compared with other methods. We report a 29-year-old male patient who represented reversed cupid's bow and whistle deformity after the primary repair of the cleft lip. He was corrected the cupid's bow using a double Z-plasty. The reversed cupid's bow was corrected to a normal shape and the whistle deformity disappeared. The tightness of the upper lip was relieved after the operation. The double Z-plasty was esthetically successful because the procedure was limited in the vermilion and did not produce a new scar on the skin. Furthermore, the lip tubercle became protuberant. The cupid's bow was symmetrically smoothly curved at 4 years after the operation. These results indicate that the double Z-plasty is simple, less traumatic to the surrounding tissues, and suitable for the correction of whistle deformity.

Characteristics Analysis of the Fluid Power System for a Double-color Injection Molding Machine Development (이색 사출성형기 개발을 위한 유압시스템의 특성 검토)

  • Double-color Injection molding machine is the assembly of many kinds of mechanical, fluid power part and electric electronic control system. From in these, fluid power is a part where becomes the first core of this machine. Fluid power systems of double-color injection molding machine are modelled and analyzed using a commercial program AMESim. Partial system models which is divided according to functional operation are made and its analysis results shows how design parameters work on operational characteristics like pressure, flow rates, displacement at each node and so on. Analysis modeling and compared the data which gets from experiment and the analysis result which has a reliability got data. The results made by analysis will be used design of fluid power circuit for developing a double-color injection molding machine.

An Analytic Study for the Adhesively Bonded Tubular Double Lap Joint (원형 이중겹치기 접착조인트의 해석해에 관한 연구)

  • The adhesively bonded tubular double lap joint has better torque transmission capability and reliability in bonding operation than the single lap joint. In this paper, an analytic solution for the torque transmission capabilities and stress distributions of the adhesively bonded tubular double lap joint was derived assuming the linear properties of the adhesive and adherends. From the calculation, it was found that the torque transmission capabilities of the double lap joint was more than 40% larger compared to that of the single lap joint.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and Light Sterile Neutrino

  • The recent neutrino experiment results show a preference on normal mass ordering of neutrinos. The global efforts to search for neutrinoless double beta decays undergo a broad gap with the approach to the prediction in three-neutrino framework based on the normal ordering. Current research is to show that it is possible to find a neutrinoless double beta decay signal even with normal ordered neutrino masses. We propose the existence of light sterile neutrino as a solution to the higher effective mass of electron neutrino expected by experiments under operation. A few short-baseline oscillation experiments gave rise to exclusion bound to the mass of sterile neutrino and its mixing with the lightest neutrino. It is demonstrated that results of neutrinoless double beta decays can also narrow down the ranges of the mass and the mixing angle of sterile neutrino.

The effect of the changing of the edged shape of rotary blade by wearing on tilling torque requirement (로우터리 날의 마모(磨耗)에 의(依)한 단면형상변화(斷面形狀變化)가 경운소요(耕耘所要)토오크에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The single edged blade was efficient to reduce tilling torque requirement than the double edged blade as previous reported study. This study was carried out to find reducing effects of tilling torque requirement of single edged blade comparing to double edged one in according to wearing by tilling operation. The single and double edged rotary blades were attached on same rotary shaft, and tilling operation was done in hard glass land. The wearing weights of the blade were checked out each 3 hrs tilling operation, at same time, the tilling toruqe requirements were measured with soil bin system in laboratory. The results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The edged blade shape was not changed during the tilling operation of the rotary blade. The single edged blade was saved 5-10% in the maximum tilling torque and 3-15% in the mean tilling torque than the double edged blade for total durable period. 2. Generally, the tilling torques according to operation were decreased until original shape was maintained, but it was increased after 12 hrs tilling operation, and the tip shape of rotary blade was changed seriously. It is noted that the tip shape of the rotary blade is another factor affecting tilling torque, it should be desirable to study on the rotary blade tip shape to reduce tilling torque requirement after changing its original shape with wearing.

A Clinical Study of Bidirectional Cavopulmonary Shunt (양방향성 상대정맥-폐동맥 단락술의 임상적 연구)

  • We reviewed our experiences on 33 patients who underwent a bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt[BCPS from February 1992 to July 1994. There were 19 male an 14 female patients, and their weight ranged from 4.4 to 13.3 Kg[mean weight 8.4 $\pm$2.9 Kg . The age ranged from 2 to 55 months [mean age 16.7 $\pm$15.5 months . Their diagnosis included single ventricle group in 16, unbalanced ventricles in 8 whose associated anomalies were double outlet right ventricle, transposition of great arteries and total anomalous pulmonary venous return, tricuspid atresia in 7, hypoplastic left heart syndrome in 1 who underwent a Norwood procedure and double outlet right ventricle with pulmonic stenosis and tricuspid stenosis in 1 who underwent biventricular repair. Among them 10 patients had received other palliative operation before [Norwood procedure 1, pulmonary artery banding 3, modified Blalock-Taussig shunt 6 . The BCPS operations were performed under the cardiopulmonary bypass. 16 patients underwent unilateral BCPS and 17 patients who had bilateral SVC underwent bilateral BCPS. Three patients whose associated anomalies were interruption of IVC underwent total cavopulmonary shunt. There were 5 operative deaths [mortality rate 15.1 % and 2 late deaths. The risk factor for the operation was high mean pulmonary artery pressure [p value<0.05 . The survivors showed good postoperative course and their postoperative oxygen saturation was increased significantly compared to that of preoperative status[p value<0.05 .Conclusively, BCPS operation is effective and safe palliative procedure for the many cyanotic complex congenital anomalies with decreased pulmonary blood flow especialy for the patients who have the high risk factors for Fontan operations.

A Experimental Study for Developing of the Dry Double Floors Hydronic Ondol System (건식이중바닥온돌시스템 개발을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • The aim of the research was to evaluate the characteristics of thermal environment and thermal comfort in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol System. Physical indoor thermal environments (the floor surface temperature, the vertical temperature, etc.) and skin temperature have especially been measured. Physical features conditions, sensation, thermal comfort, humidity sensation, comfort of body were investigated for the survey. As a result, (1) During the operation of the boiler (12 hour), the average indoor temperature is appeared to be $21.6^{\circ}C$. The floor surface temperature showed peak value of $31.4{\sim}40.6^{\circ}C$ after 8hours 30minutes after the start-point of the heating. The vertical difference of temperature was turned out to be not uniform. (2) While the skin temperature showed a narrow distribution of temperature in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol system. (3) The response to thermal comfort which people felt was satisfactory, and most of them felt dry during the test.

  • Both of induction generator and synchronous generator is available in the hydroelectric power plant. If the output of the power station is large, the synchronous generator is mainly used but when its output is low, the induction generator is often used. If the output capacity is small, there is a case in which induction motor is used as a generator. Torque at rated operation and start of the induction motor is different depending on the shape of the rotor. Small and medium-sized squirrel-cage induction motor is used primarily double cage rotor or deep bar. In this study, we attempt to interpret characteristics for double cage rotor or deep bar that occur when operating in the induction generator based on the parameters that have been designed and manufactured as an induction motor.

  • The double-base number system has been used in digital signal processing systems for over a decade because of its fast inner product operation and low hardware complexity. This letter proposes an innovative multiplier architecture using hybrid operands. The multiplier can easily be linked to flash analog-to-digital converters or digital systems through a double-base number encoder (DBNE) for realtime signal processing. The design of the DBNE and the multiplier enable faster digital signal processing and require less hardware resources compared to the binary processing method.

  • This paper describes an adaptive distance relay for double-circuit line protection with mutual impedance and fault resistance. Double-circuit lines have two operating condition; both lines of a double-circuit line are in operation and one line is switched-off and both ends of the line are grounded. For optimal distance protection, the trip region is calculated, which have respect to mutual impedance and fault resistance.
