  • In this work, diamond-like carbon (DLC) films are coated onto plasma nitrided AISI 4140 steel by DC-pulsed PECVD. One problem of DLC films is their very poor adhesion on steel substrates. The purpose of the nitriding was to enhance adhesion between the substrate and the DLC films. The white layer formation is avoided. Plasma nitriding increased adhesion from 8 N for DLC coating to 25 N for duplex coating. Duplex plasma nitriding/DLC coating was proven to be more effective in improving the adhesion. The purpose of the bond layer was to enhance adhesion between the substrate and the DLC films.

  • On BIPV systems, especially roof-top PV systems, the power generation is easier to be reduced due to the shades of facilities nearby, or roof itself. To secure profitability of roof-top PV systems, the optimal design of solar arrays through the precise shading analysis is an important item of design considerations. In this paper, an optimization system for array design of roof-top PVs is to be developed using three-dimensional Geospatial Information System(GIS). The profitability of income and expense is considered through the shading analysis of entire roofs. By applying the system to project for validation, the adequacy and the improvement of NPV of the system were verified compared to expert's design. The system has significance by reason that PV modules are placed through rules established with expert knowledge and geometric rules were applied to reflect the constructability and maintainability.

  • Phenylformamidine derivatives are well known as insecticides for their specific activity against the insects. It has now been established that they show insecticidal activity as agonists on the octopamine receptor. In order to get a highly active compound we have intensively exploited fluorine substituted-aromatic formamidines possessing N-dialkylaminosulfeny group. Up to now, there are several candidates we found: N-(dialkylamino)sulfenyl-N-methyl-N'-(4-fluoro-2-methylphenyl)formamidines. The miticidal activity of Compound 29 show five-fold higher than Amitraz.

  • In order to elucidate residual characteristics of pesticides in garlic by drying, azoxystrobin and flutolanil used for garlic were treated to the garlic by dipping for 1 and 5 min into their standard diluents and then the garlic was dried with a freeze-drier. The test pesticides were analyzed with a GLC-ECD/NPD. Recoveries of the pesticides ranged from 81.96 to 98.18%. Amount of azoxystrobin and flutolanil in fresh garlic were 0.34 and 1.18 mg/kg in case of dipping for 1 min. and 0.44 and 2.15 mg/kg in case of dipping for 5 min., respectively. Also, amount of azoxystrobin and flutolanil in dried garlic were 0.80 and 4.51 mg/kg in case of dipping for 1 min. and 1.03, 5.28 mg/kg in case of dipping for 5 minute, respectively, representing that concentration of the test pesticides in garlic were increased by drying. In case of dipping for 1 and 5 min., processing factors of azoxystrobin were 2.35 and 3.34 and those of flutolanil were 1.19 and 1.17, respectively. Reduction factors of the pesticides in garlic were range from 0.94 to 0.97, indicating that few amounts of the test pesticides in garlic were dissipated by freeze-drying.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of U-Granule formulation of molinate(S-ethylhexaphdro-1H-azepine-1-carbothioate) mixtures in green house and paddy field, Five minutes were taken for U-Granule to spread out 7m in irrigated water of direct seeded on flooded paddy surface. The concentration of active ingredient of molinate in molinate U-Granule application was similar to molinate+simetryn U-Granule application. But weeding effect of molinate+simetryn U-Granule on Echinochlor crus-galli was 23% higher Than single application of molinate at 7m from application point. Bioefficacy of molinate+simetryn+imazosulfuron U-Granule on control of Echinochloa crus-galli was higher than that of molinzte+imazosulfuton U-Granule, but those effect on Eleochairs kuroguwai was not significantly different. Only slight rice phytotoxicity was observed at 5m and 2m from application point of U-Granule molinate+simetryn+imazosulfuron and molinate+imazosulfuron, respectively. So it is concluded that there is little phytotoxicity problem in practical application of U-Granule of molinate mixtures.

  • STAR of STAR (SS 01-04) is a series of drinks that consist of various extracts obtained from Coriolus versicolor, Artemisia capillaris Thunb., Hovenia dulcis, Acanthopanax sessiliflorus, Lycium chinense, Citrus reticulata, Saururus chinensis, Pueraria lobata, Pyrus pyrifolia, and Oenanthe javanica. A purpose of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of SS 01-04. Antioxidant activity of the drinks was evaluated by conducting a hydroxyl radical-scavenging assay. Cytotoxicity and hepatoprotective potential were determined using HepG2 cells in vitro, while protective effects against acute hepatotoxicity was evaluated in vivo. The antioxidant activity of the SS 01-04 at concentration of 100 and 250 mg/mL was similar to that of $50{\mu}M$ vitamin C. tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (tBHP)-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was blocked by SS 01, 03 and 04 in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with SS 04 significantly lowered the serum levels of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in an animal model of carbon tetrachloride $(CCl_4)-induced$ hepatotoxicity (p<0.05). In addition, SS04 increased glutathione level while decreased malondialdehyde level in the liver considerably (p<0.05). It also inhibited the $CCl_4-induced$ increase in the levels of triglyceride and cholesterol in serum and the liver. These findings indicated that SS 01-04 possessed antioxidant activity and protect against ROS. In particular, SS 04 is potentially highly beneficial in treating liver damage as it scavenges reactive free radicals and boosts the endogenous antioxidant system.
