잣나무 소경재의 재질평가를 통한 실내장식용재 개발 (A Development of Interior Decoration Timber with Pinus koraiensis Small Diameter Logs)

  • Among the domestic softwoods, technical value of Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs which have comparatively low applicability was evaluated and sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics were investigated and analyzed for examining if it can be utilized as the interior decoration material. For the sensitive characteristics of Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, wood color and odor were evaluated and for the physical characteristics, growth-ring width and latewood percentage, abrasion, density, shrinkage, swelling, absorption, roughness and hardness were evaluated. Then, the possibility to be developed as the interior decoration material was found. As the result of evaluating sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics of domestic Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, color and scent clearly were judged to have excellent visual factor as the interior decoration material. And, physical characteristics were also judged to be excellent, so it is judged to be developed as the interior decoration material. Therefore, as the result of various forms of design pattern with domestic Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs, several patterns of interior decoration can be developed by characteristics of each side and colors of heartwood and sapwood. And, in the future, it can be applied to furniture design or interior decoration material for the proper use. Especially, it is considered to contribute to wood applying industry through the study on the quality of domestic small diameter logs which have low applicability.

국산 간벌 소경재를 이용한 다중접착접합 기둥부재의 압축강도성능 (Compression strength performance of multi-layer glued columns by using square lumbers produced from domestic small diameter logs)

  • This study is to develop a mulit-layer glued columns for construction of Korean-style houses by using domestic small diameter logs. Dried small square lumber glued each other to develop a multi-layer glued columns and evaluated its performance of strength. Then, predicted the design load of multi-layer glued columns and make a comparison between actual load and design load of multi-layer glued columns. In the results, allowable load by allowable stress of multi-layer glued columns was measured one-third of actual columns load and prediction load was measured less than 10~30% of the actual load. Therefore, muilt-layer glued member has a standard allowable stress of compressive of 13 MPa (Larix leptolepis) and 19 MPa (Chamaecyparis obtusa) when used as columns. Also, using compression strength of small diameter square logs could calculate maximum loads of multi-layer glued member as column.

낙엽송 소경재(小徑材)의 제재이용구조(製材利用構造)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (A Study on Sawing and Utilization Structure of Lumber from Small - diameter Logs of Larix leptolepis)

  • This research has been executed for maximization of lumber yield and more efficient use of small diameter logs. Sample logs from thinnings carne from densed artificial stands at the Kwangnung Experimental Forests situated in the central region of Korean peninsula. Species of sample logs were obtained to execute sawing and strength test for larch, and lumber strength test in full size for pitch pine and Korean pine. A survey on sawmills consuming domestic logs was carried out to know sawmill production, costs and utilization structure of lumber as a guide to business analysis. Results showed that sawing pattern from small logs less than 15cm in diameter was necessary to cut 9cm by 9cm square per one log in order to obtain high lumber recovery and provide for wide market needs. The total lumber yield of squares plus side boards was 56 percent to 58 percent from small logs and the yield for log sweep in 30 percent decreased by 24.5 percent in sawing production, compared to yield for straight logs. In sawing efficiency, production of lumber by twin band saw could be improved 238 percent higher than lumber of the same species produced by conventional sawmilling methods, and sawing accuracy with twin band saw was much higher at the lumber production than band saw. Lumber from the small larch logs has shown 70 knots per $m^2$ on its faces and also lumber showed lots of face checkings by air drying on the yard, compared to other species. MOR in bending of lumber in full size from small logs of larch was found ranging from 380kg/$cm^2$ to 460kg/$cm^2$, resulting in 40 percent less than the strength from clear small specimens. In lumber containing knots, cross grain, etc, longitudinal stress wave speed was delayed about 48 percent by defects in lumber from both larch and pitch pine logs. The surveyed sample sawmills consumed the domestic logs at the rate of 54 percent to 84 percent in the total timber consumption, showing high consumption at mills located in the mountains.

Evaluation of Strength Properties for Bolted Connections with Lumber from Small Diameter Logs

  • EYM (European Yield Model), which was adopted in NDS (National Design Specification for wood construction), has been used in Korea without any verification of the analysis of bolted wood connections. In the case of applying lumber from domestic small diameter logs, however, there are some problems with the direct application of EYM ; 1) relatively low dowel bearing strength and dimensional stability due to a large amount of immature wood, 2) effect of MC (moisture contents) on the dowel bearing strength of wood and the yield load of a bolted connection. To evaluate the strength properties of bolted connections with lumber from domestic small diameter logs, effect of MC on the dowel bearing strength of wood was investigated and double shear bolted connection tests were performed. As the MC of wood increased, the dowel bearing strength was linearly reduced, even under 19% MC, which showed that adjustment, not considered in NDS, was required. Double shear bolted connection tests indicated that effect of MC on yield load should be considered in order to determine design value.

Nail Withdrawal Behavior for Domestic Small Diameter Logs

  • Nail withdrawal tests were conducted on clear wood of domestic small diameter logs. Nails were driven into the cross and longitudinal sections of each specimen, then nail withdrawal tests were performed. Nail withdrawal loads are strongly dependent on the direction of nail positions. The average load values for the nail withdrawal both in cross section and longitudinal section are higher in high specific gravity (SG) wood of sawtooth oak (Quercus acutissima Carr.) than those in low SG wood of Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora Sieb. et Zucc.) and pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill.). The average ratio of the nail withdrawal loads for side-grain and end-grain are higher in the low SG wood than that in the high SG of wood. Both linear and non-linear regression analyses were conducted on nail withdrawal load with SG, good correlations were obtained between nail withdrawal load and SG.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the mechanical properties of woods treated with 30% aqueous solution of PEG 1000. Compressive, bending and shearing strengths were slightly decreased by PEG treatment. Absorbed energy in impact bending did not show any significant differences between untreated and PEG-treated woods.

핑거조인트가 국산 낙엽송 소경각재의 휨성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Finger-joint on Bending Performance of Square Timbers Produced from Domestic Small Diameter Larch Logs)

  • 국토면적의 약 64%가 산림으로 구성되어 OECD 국가 중 네 번째로 산림면적의 비율이 높은 편임에도 원목 생산보다는 녹화에 초점을 맞추어 진행된 조림의 결과로 국내 목재자급률은 약 16.2%에 불구하다. 본 연구에서는 국산 간벌재로부터 소경각재를 생산하여 다중접착을 통해 기둥과 보 등의 다양한 구조용 집성재 제조하기 위하여 핑거조인트가 포함된 소경각재의 휨 성능을 핑거조인트가 없는 소경각재의 휨 성능과 비교하였으며 시험결과를 ASTM D2915에 따라 통계처리를 실시하여 허용응력을 산출하고 상호 비교 평가하였다. 기존의 구조용 집성재 생산라인에서 50 mm 이하의 층재에 대하여 사용하였던 핑거조인트 기계를 사용하여 제조된 핑거조인트 소경각재는 핑거조인트가 없는 부재에 비하여 50% 이하의 휨강도를 나타낸 반면 개선된 핑거조인트 방법을 적용하여 제조된 핑거조인트 부재는 약 80% 정도의 휨강도를 나타내었다. 또한, ASTM D 2915에 따라 핑거조인트가 없는 소경각재 및 핑거조인트가 포함된 소경각재의 허용 휨응력은 각각 12 MPa 및 11.4 MPa로 나타났다. 핑거조인트가 있는 소경각재의 경우에 핑거조인트가 없는 부재보다 강도의 편차가 적었으며, MOR은 약 80% 수준을 나타내었으나 허용 휨응력은 약 95% 수준을 나타내었다.

국산 침엽수 원목의 경급구분 기준에 관한 연구 (A study on log diameter classes of Korean softwood log)

  • 국산 원목의 유통체계 개선을 위해서는 원목 품질을 신뢰할 수 있는 있는 등급체계가 정착되어야 한다. 원목시장의 현실과 괴리된 원목규격의 개선을 위해 국내에서 생산되는 원목 현황과 원목이 사용되는 시장에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 이를 위해 2010년과 2011년에 국내 5개 지방산림청에서 생산 매각한 천만 본 이상의 원목자료를 수집하여 각 수종별로 경급과 재장을 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 원목규격의 경급과 재장구분 기준에 대한 개선방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 본 연구 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 국산 침엽수 원목의 경급은 100~160 mm 범위의 소경재가 대부분을 차지하여 현행 원목규격의 재종구분이 현실에 비해 다소 과도하게 설정되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 원목의 경급분포는 수종별로 서로 상이한 분포특성을 보여 수종별로 차별화된 경급기준의 필요성이 제기되었다. 국내에서 생산되는 원목의 재장이 수종마다 서로 상이하고, 제재용으로 선호되는 재장을 적극적으로 생산하지 못하는 문제점을 반영하여 재장에 관한 기준이 원목규격에 포함될 필요가 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 3개 수종군, 6개 재종의 새로운 침엽수 원목 구분체계를 제안하였으며, 각 등급에 적합한 지름 및 재장기준을 제시하였다.

소경 굴참나무 횡절 원판의 강제송풍천연건조 (Forced Air-drying of Cross-cut Disks from Small-diameter Logs of Quercus variabilis)

  • 소경 참나무 횡절목을 열처리하여 브로치 등 악세사리용 소재로 개발하였다. 그러나 국산참나무는 난건조수종으로 특히 횡절 원판을 건조결함없이 건조하기 어렵다. 소경 굴참나무(Quercus variabilis)에서 얻은 원판(섬유방향 길이 7 mm)을 여름과 가을에 강제송풍천연건조하면서 여러 조건에 따른 건조수율을 조사하였다. 같은 조건에서 가을에 건조한 시편의 최종 평균함수율이 여름에 건조한 시편의 평균함수율보다 낮았다. 두 계절 모두 큰 직경의 시편은 풍속에 따른 차이를 보이지 않았으나 작은 직경의 시편은 풍속이 높았을 때 최종 평균함수율이 약간 낮았다. 두 계절 모두 직경이 큰 시편의 할렬 발생빈도가 직경이 작은 시편보다 높았는데 가을에는 2배 정도인데 반해 여름에는 4배가 넘었다. 여름에 낮은 풍속에서 건조한 큰 직경 시편의 할렬 발생빈도가 높은 이유는 여름의 높은 습도와 낮은 풍속으로 반복적인 수분 응축과 증발이 일어났기 때문으로 설명할 수 있다.

Polyethylene glycol(PEG)처리에 의한 국내산 소경재의 치수안정화에 관한 연구II - 환경재와 산공재의 비교 - (A Study on the Dimensional Stabilization of Domestic Small-Diameter Logs by Polyethylene Glycol Treatment - Comparison of Ring-Porous Wood and Diffuse-Porous Wood -)

  • 본 연구에서는 국내산 소경재의 보다 효율적인 이용을 위하여 PEG처리한 활엽수재의 환공재 4수종(신갈나무, 굴참나무, 물푸레나무, 오동나무)과 산공재 4수종(산벚나무, 물박달나무, 층층나무, 은사시나무)에 대한 치수안정성을 평가하였다. 수축률은 공시수종 모두 PEG처리에 의해 감소하는 효과가 있었고, 산공재가 환공재보다 낮았다. 중량증가율은 PEG농도의 증가에 따라 증가되었고, 산공재가 환공재 보다 다소 높은 증가율을 보여주었다. 벌킹효과는 PEG농도의 증가에 따라 증가하였지만, 분자량이 클수록 감소하였고, 산공재가 환공재보다 벌킹효과가 높게 나타났다. 결론적으로, 산공재가 환공재보다 높은 치수안정성을 보여주었다. 따라서 PEG처리재의 치수안정효과는 목재의 구조(도관의 분포상태 및 타이로시스 존재유무)와 밀도에 크게 영향받는 것으로 생각되었다.
