  • The higher order harmonic components of magnetostriction during ac magnetization in 3% SiFe are measured as a function of the magnetizing angle respect to [001] axis using a constructed laser interferometry. The magnetostriction with magnetizing angle from [001] axis agrees ith the calculation based on domain reorientation. The relative amplitudes of odd and even harmonics respectively for magnetic induction and magnetostriction decrease with the order of harmonics, accompanying the contraction of the amplitudes. The contraction of harmonics order of magnetostriction harmonics is shown to be the even number times of that of magnetic induction.

  • Tris-HCl buffer solution is extensively used in biochemistry and molecular biology to maintain a stable pH for biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins. Here we report on the high-precision THz dielectric spectroscopy of a 10 mM Tris-HCl buffer. Using a double Debye model, including conductivity of ionic species, we measured the complex dielectric functions of Tris-HCl buffer. The fast relaxation time of water molecules in Tris-HCl buffer is ~20% longer than that in pure water while the slow relaxation time changes little. This means that the reorientation dynamics of Tris-HCl buffer with such a low Tris concentration is quite different from that of pure water.

  • PZT ceramics substituted by La3+ and Nd3+ were fabricated according to the formula: [Pb1-x(La or Nd)x][Zr0.58Ti0.42]1-x/4$\square$x/4O3(x=0.00, 0.02, 0.05, 0.08, 0.15, 0.20). The crystal structure and microstructure were investigated by XRD and SEM. It was observed that the phase transitions among rhombohedral, tetragonal, and cubic symmetry occured as the substitutional quantity increased. Dielectric constant, dissipation factor and piezoelectric coefficient (d33), of each sample were measured. The dielectric properties were changed as the substitutional quanity of rare earth ion increased. These changes could be explained by crystal structure and compositional fluctuaction. Its d33 was higher at tetragonal region near to phase boundry between rhombohedral and tetragonal, which was explained by reorientation of domain wall.

  • The profiles of the second-order higher harmonics during B-H hysteresis loop have been measured as functions of the tensile stress in grain-oriented $3.2{\%}$ Si steels. The observed harmonics profiles have been analyzed in terms of the nonlinear, asymmetric magnetization which reflects the domain reorientation under the field. The field interval of the second-order higher harmonics is related to the nucleation and annihilation fields and a measurement method for the magnetostriction is proposed using the harmonics profiles under tensile stress.
