We have designed photonic crystal based bandpass filters whose characteristics are suitable for WDM communication system. The filters consist of coupled point defect resonators in two-dimensional photonic crystal. The frequency response of coupled resonators has been analyzed by the coupling of modes in time, from which the design parameters for the coupled resonator filters have been extracted. For the appropriate choice of the design parameters, each resonator is treated as a lumped L-C resonance circuit, and from the analogy between the equivalent circuit and the standard L-C filter circuits, the design parameters are simply determined from the table for general filter circuit design. Based on the determined design parameters, a photonic crystal based filter has been designed and its performance has been calculated using the finite-difference time-domain method. The designed filter shows a pass band of 50GHz and 0.5 dB in-band ripple, which is suitable for typical WDM communication systems with 100GHz channel spacing.
A time-domain modeling approach is used to study characteristics of a widely tunable coupled-ring reflector (CRR) laser diode(LD). The CRR consists of a bus waveguide and two coupled ring resonators coupled to the bus without resorting to distributed Bragg grating structure. The tuning range can be a few tens of nanometers with a side mode suppression ratio exceeding 35dB through the adjustment of currents into the phase control sections in the rings. The CRR laser diode has long effective cavity length compared to conventional laser diodes. Accordingly, a broad additional resonance peak in the amplitude modulation characteristics is observed between 20 to 30 GHz, implying the extension of amplitude modulation bandwidth.

Noise cancellation is essential for the devices which use speech as an interface. In real environments, speech quality and recognition rates are degraded by the auditive noises coming near the microphone. In this paper, we propose a noise cancellation algorithm using stereo microphones basically. The advantage of the use of multiple microphones is that the direction information of the target source could be applied. The proposed noise canceller is based on the Wiener filter. To estimate the filter, noise and target speech frequency responses should be known and they are estimated by the spectral classification in the frequency domain. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with that of the well-known Frost algorithm and the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) with an adaptation mode controller (AMC). As performance measures, the perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ), which is the most widely used among various objective speech quality methods, and speech recognition rates are adopted.
Magnetotelluric responses may be affected by strong anisotropy of the high-conductivity layers (HCL) in the upper mantle or lower crust. We have studied two-dimensional anisotropy MT modelling to examine the effect of high anisotropic media. Electrical properties of a homogeneous anisotropic body are defined by a symmetric conductivity tensor and the problem is described by coupled diffusion equation in the frequency domain. In two-dimensional anisotropic environments, diagonal elements of the impedance tensor have higher values than those in isotropic environments. In some cases, TM mode phases reach more than 90°and apparent resistivities decrease for some frequency range because of telluric distortion. GB decomposition may be used to recover regional responses, but can be affected by the regional anisotropic effect. Considering these results, BC87 dataset was interpreted with a modified anisotropic model.

In this paper, the effect of the gap in the ground plane on the electromagnetic interference (EMI) is analyzed quantitatively. Because of a lot of advantages compared to other numerical techniques, the FDTD (finite difference time domain) is applied to the EMI effect modeling. The analyzed model is the simplified PCB (printed circuit board) which has a microstrip and ground plane. The inductance induced by the gap is modeled and calculated by gridding the whole PCB based on the FDTD algorithm. When external cables are attached to the PCB, the common-mode current is induced along the attached cable and the resulting electric field strength is calculated and presented along with the FCC and CISPR EMI limits. The results show that the radiated field strength highly depends on the size of the ground plane gap. The numerical simulation results can be used as a reference in the practical PCB design with the ground plane gap.

Helicopter-related collision accidents with structures mostly occur at landing, especially in a limited visibility environment, which necessitates some secondary equipment like a radar that can generate stationary clutter image. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that makes an image of stationary ground clutter in two dimensional range and azimuth angle domain. We present a mathematical model for the received signals from each clutter patch in the iso range ring and analyze their clutter and Doppler characteristics, assuming that a helicopter-borne radar has a rotational antenna. We propose a filter structure, which suppresses side lobe signal components while extracting a main lobe signal component, and suggest a solution for a problem stemmed from the filtering process. Finally, by conducting a simulation we show the performance of the suggested imaging algorithm on a two dimensional virtual scenario of the topographic clutter.

We have investigated the optical properties of plamonic waveguide with tapered structure based on InP material for photonic integrated circuit(PIC). The proposed plasmonic waveguide is covered with the Ag thin film to generate the plasmonic wave on metallic interface. The optical characteristics of plasmonic waveguide were calculated using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. The plasmonic waveguide was fabricated with the lengths of 2 to $10{\mu}m$ and the widths of 400 to 700 nm, respectively. The plasmonic mode and optical loss were measured. The optimum plasmonic length is $10{\mu}m$ and widths are 600 and 700 nm in the fabricated waveguide. This plasmonic waveguide can be directly integrated with other conventional optical devices and can be essential building blocks of PIC.
The acid-labile subunit (ALS) is known to interact with the IGF binding protein (IGFBP) in the presence of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). Studies, however, indicate that ALS forms a doublet with IGFBP3, independent of IGFs. To characterize the structural domain required for the IGF-free ALS-IGFBP3 interaction, seven recombinant human IGFBP3 mutants were generated: three deletion mutants and four site-specific mutants that had altering N-terminal regions of IGFBP3. ALS and IGFBP3 mRNAs were co-injected into Xenopus oocytes, and their products were cross-linked and immunoprecipitated using antisera against ALS or IGFBP3. Among the deletion mutants, the mutant of D40 (deleted in 11-40th amino acids) exerted no effect in the interaction with ALS, while D60 (${\Delta}11$-60) demonstrated a moderate reduction. D88 (${\Delta}11$-88), however, showed a significant decrease. In the case of site-specific mutants, the mutation that alterated the IGF binding site (codons 56 or 80) exerted a significant reduction in the interaction, whereas codons 72 or 87 showed no significant change in the interaction with ALS. The stability of the ALS-IGFBP3 interaction was analyzed according to a time-dependent mode. Consistent with the binding study, mutants on the IGF binding sites (56 or 80) consistently show a weakness in the ALS-IGFBP3 interaction when compared to the mutants that covered the non-IGF binding sites (72 or 87). This study suggests that the N-terminal of IGFBP3, especially the IGF binding site, plays an important role in interacting with ALS as well as in stabilizing the dual complex, independent of IGFs.
Nowadays, there are a great number of various structures that have been retrofitted by using different FRP Composites. Due to this, more researches need to be conducted to know more the characteristics of these structures, not only that but also a comparison among them before and after the retrofitting is needed. In this research, a model steel structure is tested using a bench-scale earthquake simulator on the shake table, using recorded micro tremor data, in order to get the dynamic behaviors. Columns of the model steel structure are then retrofitted by using GFRP composite, and then tested on the Quanser shake table by using the recorded micro tremor data. At this stage, it is needed to evaluate the dynamic behaviors of the retrofitted model steel structure. Various types of methods of OMA, such as EFDD, SSI, etc. are used to take action in the ambient responses. Having a purpose to learn more about the effects of GFRP composite, experimental model analysis of both types (retrofitted and no-retrofitted models) is conducted to evaluate their dynamic behaviors. There is a provision of ambient excitation to the shake table by using recorded micro tremor ambient vibration data on ground level. Furthermore, the Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition is used through output-only modal identification. At the end of this study, moderate correlation is obtained between mode shapes, periods and damping ratios. The aim of this research is to show and determine the effects of GFRP Composite implementation on structural responses of the model steel structure, in terms of changing its dynamical behaviors. The frequencies for model steel structure and the retrofitted model steel structure are shown to be 33.916% in average difference. Finally, it is shown that, in order to evaluate the period and rigidity of retrofitted structures, OMA might be used.

In this paper, the slot coupled stacked microstrip antenna, which has wide bandwidth characteristics because of the double tuning effects from the interactions between two patches and feeding slot and improves distortions of radiation patterns due to spurious radiation from feeder, is analyzed. For the analy- sis Green function in the spectrum domain and Galerkin method is applied with an accurate analysis mode for slot coupled feeding structure using the scattering analysis method. The basis functions are 3 EB modes for patches and 5 PWS modes for feeder. The slot coupled stacked microstrip antennas are designed and fabricated with the center frequency of 11.5 Ghz and 12.0 GHz. The experimental results show the wide bandwidth characteristics of 1.9 ~ 2.2 GHz and agree well with the simulation results which have 15~20% bandwidth.
