  • Purpose: Current study aimed at exploring the roles of system justification in the effects of consumers' self-identification with the threatened social in-group on the within-domain versus across-domain consumption. It focused on whether there are positive effects of both of the self-definition and the self-investment on the in-group system justification, and also explored whether the system justification, in turn, could make positive effects on the consumption. Research design, data and methodology: The self-identification was approached in view of self-definition and self-investment when the in-group was threatened by members of their out group. The empirical study was performed with the single factor within-subject design based on the feeling of the consumers' being threatened when the in-group was criticized by the others. The in-group threatened was accessed from the memory of each of the undergraduate students participating in the empirical study by asking them to remember the events by which their important in-group was perceived to be threatened in their past life. Questionnaire data collected from the undergraduate students were used to verify research hypotheses by structural equation model in Amos 21.0 program. Results: First, the self-definition positively affected the within-domain versus across-domain consumption, but did not affect the in-group system justification. Second, the self-investment positively affected the in-group system justification. Third, the system justification made positive effects on the within-domain versus the across-domain consumption. Therefore, this article could contribute to the development of the theory related to compensatory consumption in the view that there could be the positive mediation roles of system justification in the effects of consumers' self-investment to their in-group on the within-domain versus across-domain consumption when the in-group is threatened. Conclusions: The results of this study could give managerial implications to brand or product marketing managers. How to vitalize consumers' self-definition with, and self-investment to, the threatened in-group is at issue to the marketers when consumers' important in-group was threatened by others. By evoking the in-group-based self-investment to consumers when the in-group was threatened, the marketers should increase the level of the system justification, and the marketers should promote the consumers to recognize that their products or brands are included into the within-self domain.

  • Application of digital filter to the wave analysis is studied using the observed data by wave gauge. Sea wave data obtained from wave gauge always include long wave frequency components. In order to estimate the sea wave parameters, we must re-analyzed wave data by using a digital filter and the concept of mean sea level correction method. By the wave by wave analysis and spectral methods, sea wave parameters on the basis of wave data obtained by the conventional method and digital filter are compared. The best-fitted design filter determined by the necessary conditions of frequency responses, can be obtained by calculating various transfer functions. Thus, to get the best the digital filter design, both Butterworth filter and Savitzky-Golay filter of digital filter are used in the frequency and time domain, respectively. Three cases of observation wave data are calculated by applying digital filter. The components of different frequency bands in the surf zone are coexisted in three cases. The wave data for wind wave components is computed using the digital filter the surf zone and off-surf zone, and based on the filtered data, wave parameters are calculated by the spectral analysis and wave by wave analysis methods, respectively. As a results, when sea wave data observed by wave gauge are analyzed, the Savitzky-Golay method is recommended which can well appear cut-off frequency by experimental choosing filter length in the time domain. The better mean sea level correction method is the Butterworth filter in the frequency domain.

  • This paper presents a multi-domain topology optimization using the harmonically excited coil and the iron in order to focus pulsed magnetic field (PMF). The design sensitivity of the harmonic magnetic field is derived by adjoint variable method. As a result of the optimization, PMF is considerably concentrated on the objective domain with much less leakage than the initial model.

  • The informal specification technique lacks abstraction and preciseness. On the other hand, the formal specification technique makes the developer difficult to express and understand the software specification, because it contains mathematical expression. This paper proposes DSC(Domain Specification Component) to solves these problems. DSC supports the understanding of problem domain and improves reusability with selecting the strong point of informal and formal specification technique. We applied the proposed DSC to CMIP-based network management manager software. And we analyzed the effects of the reusability and confirmed the increase of the reusability.

  • In current seismic design codes, various elastic design acceleration spectra are defined considering different seismological and soil characteristics and are widely used tool for calculation of seismic loads acting on structures. Response spectrum analyses directly use the elastic design acceleration spectra whereas time history analyses use acceleration records of earthquakes whose acceleration spectra fit the design spectra of seismic codes. Due to the fact that obtaining coherent structural response quantities with the seismic design code considerations is a desired circumstance in dynamic analyses, the response spectra of earthquake records used in time history analyses had better fit to the design acceleration spectra of seismic codes. This paper evaluates structural response distributions of multi-story reinforced concrete frames obtained from nonlinear time history analyses which are performed by using the scaled earthquake records compatible with various elastic design spectra. Time domain scaling procedure is used while processing the response spectrum of real accelerograms to fit the design acceleration spectra. The elastic acceleration design spectra of Turkish Seismic Design Code 2007, Uniform Building Code 1997 and Eurocode 8 are considered as target spectra in the scaling procedure. Soil classes in different seismic codes are appropriately matched up with each other according to $V_{S30}$ values. The maximum roof displacements and the total base shears of considered frame structures are determined from nonlinear time history analyses using the scaled earthquake records and the results are presented by graphs and tables. Coherent structural response quantities reflecting the influence of elastic design spectra of various seismic codes are obtained.

  • This paper presents a new methodology for designing a dielectric waveguide filter with the cutoff frequency of 2.4 GHz based on the continuum design sensitivity analysis. An analytical sensitivity formula is derived in frequency domain and then unified program architecture applicable to the optimal design of high-frequency devices is proposed. A three-dimensional dielectric resonator used in waveguide filters has been tested to illustrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • Analyzing acoustic-structural systems such as automobiles and aircraft the FRF-based substructuring method is one of the most powerful tools. In this paper, an optimization procedure far the engine mount system of passenger car has been presented using the design sensitivity analysis based on the multi-domain FRF-based substructuring formulation. The proposed method is applied to an optimization problem of the engine mount system, of which objective is to minimize the interior sound over the concerned rpm range. The design variables selected are the stiffnesses of the engine mounts and bushes. Plugging the gradient information calculated by the proposed method into nonlinear optimization software, we can obtain the optimal stiffnesses of the engine mounts and bushings through design iterations. The optimized interior noise in the passenger car shows that the proposed method is very useful in the realistic situation.

  • In this research, hybrid method with case-based reasoning and rule-based reasoning is applied. Using case-based reasoning, design experts'experience and know-how are effectively represented in order to obtain a proper configuration of midship section in the initial ship design stage. Since there is not sufficient domain knowledge available to us, traditional case-adaptation algorithms cannot be applied to our problem, i.e., creating the configuration of midship section. Thus, new case-adaptation algorithms not requiring any domain knowledge are developed antral applied to our problem. Using the knowledge representation of DnV rules, rule-based reasoning can perform deductive inference in order to obtain the scantling of midship section efficiently. The results from the case-based reasoning and the rule-based reasoning are examined by comparing the results with various conventional methods. And the reasonability of our results is verified by comparing the results wish actual values from parent ship.

  • Due to the improvement of the seismic hazard analysis method and the design code, dynamic analysis method is widely used. To conduct dynamic analysis, various coefficients should be designated. The time history acceleration is one of the most essential factor. However, strong earthquake motion data from the outside of the country have been used to conduct dynamic analysis without considering of the ground motion parameters. In this study, the methodology to choose appropriate input motion is developed by using time domain design spectrum matching procedure. Two examples are applied to verify the methodology. The Result shows that the methodology satisfies seismic circumstances and the design code.
