Using Echolocation Search Algorithm (ESA) for truss size optimization

  • Due to limited resources, and increasing speed of development, the optimal use of available resources has become the most important challenge of human societies. In the last few decades, many researchers have focused their research on solving various optimization problems, providing new optimization methods, and improving the performance of existing optimization methods. Echolocation Search Algorithm (ESA) is an evolutionary optimization algorithm that is based on mimicking the mechanism of the animals such as bats, dolphins, oilbirds, etc in food finding to solve optimization problems. In this paper, the ability of ESA for solving truss size optimization problems with continuous variables is investigated. To examine the efficiency of ESA, three benchmark examples are considered. The numerical results exhibit the effectiveness of ESA for solving truss optimization problems.

Nasitrema attenuata (Digenia: Nasitrematidae) Infection of Long-beaked Common Dolphin (Delphius capensis) in the East Sea, Korea

  • The trematodes of Genus Nasitrema are the most common infection in the heads of small odontocetes. Five species of Nasitrema have been described in Asia. But those parasites has been not surveyed in the East Sea of Korean peninsula. There are no evidence of pathology associated with Nasitrema attenuate. To determine the infection ratio of N. attenuata in the dolphin, it was surveyed 9 long-beaked common dolphin, Delphinus capensis, caught incidentally from Samcheok to Pohang, East Sea, Korea. Five males and four females, estimated to be between 1 to 10 years old, were examined. The quantity of N. attenuata harvested by aspiration from pterygoid sinuses ranged from 10 to 100 with a 100% (9/9) infection with older dolphins exhibiting higher parasite counts. The body of trematoda was elongated with tegumental patches resembling the leaves of lilies and oral sucker located ventrally at the anterior terminal. Esophagus was absent and intestinal bifurcation arose immediately from the posterior of pharynx. The undulated intestinal caeca transversed the entire body and terminated at the posterior extremity of the worm. The genital pore opened anterior to the ventral sucker. This report confirms the prevalence and morphology of N. attenuata in the dolphins from the East Sea, Korea.

참돌고래의 반향정위 신호특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Echolocation Signals of the Common Dolphin, Delphinus Delphis)

  • 한국 연근해에 서식하고 있는 고래류의 분포와 회유경로 등을 정확하게 파악하기 위한 기초자료를 얻고자 1999년 4월 3일∼5일과 10월 13일∼일 한국 동남해 감포연안 13마일 해상에서 참돌고래 Common Dolphin, Delphinus delphis의 음을 수중청음기로써 측정하여 참돌고래의 반향정위 신호특성을 분석 검토한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. (1)측정지점에서의 선박소음, 환경소음 등의 소음원은 0.5kHz∼3kHz의 저주파수 범위가 주된 주파수이므로 저주파수로써 반향정위를 행하는 고래류에는 그 행동에 영향을 미칠 수 있음이 예상되었다. (2)참돌고래는 펄스폭이 8.6㎳인 단일 클릭음과 필스폭이 4.8㎳인 이중 클릭음을 발하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. (3)참돌고래는 고주파수역(5∼10kHz)에서 주파수가 10.60kHz. 7.22kHz. 5.10kHz로 높아짐에 따라 클릭음의 펄스폭이 각각 1.41㎳, 2.3㎳, 5.1㎳로 커지는 경향을 나타내었다. 그리고, 저주파수역(1∼2kHz)에서는 주파수가1.12kHz, 1.38kHz, 1.82kHz로 높아짐에 따라 펄스폭이 22.4㎳, 20.5㎳, 11.9㎳를 나타내어 주파수가 높아질수록 펄스폭이 좁아지는 경향을 나타내었으며, 또한 3중의 클릭음을 발하여 목표물의 식별을 용이하게 하고 있음이 예상되었다. (4)동일 주파수대내에서 이중 클릭음의 펄스 반복주기를 분석한 결과 각각 13.3㎳, 11.4㎳, 7.1㎳, 2.4㎳를 나타내어 참돌고래는 목표물의 원근에 따라 펄스반복주기를 조절할 수 있는 기능을 보유하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. (5)5초간의 압축시간열상에서 타임켑처를 이용하여 클릭음을 분석한 결과 단일 클릭음, 이중 클릭음, 삼중 클릭음 등 다양한 신호를 사용하였으며, 그때의 펄스폭은 2.40∼8.40㎳, 펄스 반복시간은 9∼40㎳. 주파수범위는 0.60∼10.63kHz를 이용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

한국 연안 고래류의 혼획 현황 (Status of the Cetacean Bycatch near Korean Waters)

  • In 2011, the system for conserving and managing cetacean resources in Korea changed. The status of the cetacean bycatch was analyzed using a distribution certificate that was issued by the coast guard. During 2011.2012, 12 species were bycatch in Korean waters: three species of baleen whale and nine species of dolphin. The finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides) was the dominant species, followed by the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), and Pacific white-sided dolphin (Lagenorhynchus obliquidens). Among the baleen whales, the common minke whale (Balaenoptera bonaerensis) was first and Bryde's (Balaenoptera edeni) and humpback (Megaptera novaeangliae) whales appeared in the Korea Strait and East Sea, respectively. Among the dolphins, the finless porpoise ranked first in the Yellow Sea. The common dolphin, Pacific white-sided dolphin, and harbor porpoise were more frequent in the East Sea than in other waters. The cetacean bycatch was caused mainly by pots, set nets, gill nets, and stow nets. Among the three species of baleen whale, the common minke whale was caught by pots and set nets, and comprised over 68.9% of the total bycatch in 2011 and 56.2% in 2012. Comparing the bycatch caused by fishing gears by area in 2011 and 2012, 97.9% and 99.6%, respectively, of the finless porpoise bycatch in the Yellow Sea was by stow nets. In the Korea Strait, trawl bycatch comprised 67.3% in 2011 and 73.0% in 2012, followed by gill nets, set nets, and pots targeting finless porpoise and common minke whales. In the East Sea, gill nets were responsible for 46.7% in 2011 and 61.2% in 2012, followed by set nets and pots.

울산항의 항행환경 조사.분석 (A Study on the Navigational Conditions in the Ulsan Approaching Waters)

  • 이 논문은 해양사고가 발생하는 원인을 파악하기 위해 자연환경, 지형 여건, 해양사고, 해상교통 및 해상교통류 등을 조사 분석하고, 전문가조사 및 이용자에 대한 설문조사를 실시하다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 정박지인 E-1, 2, 3 정박지에서 정박 중인 선박이 주묘가 되는 경우가 빈번하다. 둘째, 정박지가 부족하며, 부두가 항로의 지근거리에 위치하고 있다. 그리고 항로 폭이 협소하고, 원유선 계류부이가 항로에 인접하여 위치하고 있어 여러 수역에서 해상교통흐름이 교차하고 있다. 셋째, 해양사고는 제1항로와 소형선박 정박지(M1-M7) 및 돌핀부두 인접수역, 간절곶 인접수역, E 정박지, 항로 진출입 인접수역에서 발생하고 있다. 넷째, 해상교통흐름은 항내 이동선박이 많고, 위험화물 운송선박의 비율이 높다. 그리고 예부선 등 소형선이 무질서하게 항내를 이동하고, 항로가 서로 교차하고 있다. 다섯째, 이용자 및 전문가에 대한 설문조사는 항로 진입부를 식별할 수 있는 대형등부표가 필요하다.

제주 남방큰돌고래 반향정위 클릭음 특성 분석 (Analysis of echolocation click signals of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) in Jeju Island)

  • 남방큰돌고래(Tursiops aduncus)는 클릭음을 사용하는 이빨고래로써 국외에서 지속적인 연구가 수행되어 왔다. 그러나 남방큰돌고래의 클릭음에 대한 연구는 대부분 사육중인 개체에 대해 이루어졌으며 국내에서는 휘슬음에 관한 연구만 수행되었다. 본 논문에서는 제주 연안에 서식하는 야생개체의 남방큰돌고래 클릭음에 대한 음향특성을 분석하였다. 음향특성을 분석하기 위해 음향 파라미터인 신호 길이, 첫 번째 피크 주파수, 두 번째 피크 주파수, 3 dB 대역폭 및 10 dB 대역폭을 산출하였으며 호주 서식 종의 클릭음 음향특성과 비교하였다. 결과적으로, 신호 길이는 평균 $38{\mu}s$를 나타냈고 대부분의 클릭음이 $20{\mu}s-60{\mu}s$ 범위 내에 속하였다. 2종류의 대역폭의 경우 협대역과 광대역의 주파수 특성 모두 나타냈으며, 첫 번째 피크 주파수(평균 $96kHz{\pm}18kHz$)와 두 번째 피크 주파수(평균 $69kHz{\pm}19kHz$)를 통해 바이모달 신호 특성을 확인하였다.

Solving design optimization problems via hunting search algorithm with Levy flights

  • This study presents a hunting search based optimum design algorithm for engineering optimization problems. Hunting search algorithm is an optimum design method inspired by group hunting of animals such as wolves, lions, and dolphins. Each of these hunters employs hunting in a different way. However, they are common in that all of them search for a prey in a group. Hunters encircle the prey and the ring of siege is tightened gradually until it is caught. Hunting search algorithm is employed for the automation of optimum design process, during which the design variables are selected for the minimum objective function value controlled by the design restrictions. Three different examples, namely welded beam, cellular beam and moment resisting steel frame are selected as numerical design problems and solved for the optimum solution. Each example differs in the following ways: Unlike welded beam design problem having continuous design variables, steel frame and cellular beam design problems include discrete design variables. Moreover, while the cellular beam is designed under the provisions of BS 5960, LRFD-AISC (Load and Resistant Factor Design-American Institute of Steel Construction) is considered for the formulation of moment resisting steel frame. Levy Flights is adapted to the simple hunting search algorithm for better search. For comparison, same design examples are also solved by using some other well-known search methods in the literature. Results reveal that hunting search shows good performance in finding optimum solutions for each design problem.

유선형 차체가 적용된 1인용 저속 전기 자동차의 설계 및 제작 (Design and Fabrication of Single-person Neighborhood Electric Vehicle with Streamlined Car Body)

  • In recent years, with the growing interest in electric vehicles, the development of a Neighborhood Electronic Vehicle (NEV) made for urban driving is accelerating. Existing NEVs are set to ~0.3 - 0.35 with more emphasis on performance rather than minimizing air resistance. In this paper, a NEV with a streamlined car body is proposed. The shape of dolphins and sharks was applied to the car body to minimize the air resistance generated when driving. Also, the performance of the vehicle was estimated by calculating the traction force and the roll couple, etc. To check the drag coefficient of the car body, finite element analysis software (COMSOL Multiphysics) was used. The frame of the vehicle is divided into the forward and the rear parts. Carbon pipe is used for the frame by MIG welding. The car body of the vehicle was fabricated by forming carbon fiber. This study confirmed the general possibility of using NEVs through driving experiments.

살오징어(Todarodes pacificus)와 갑오징어(Sepia esculenta)에 대한 광대역 음향산란특성의 비교 (Comparison of Broadband Acoustic Scattering Characteristics Between Japanese Flying Squid Todarodes pacificus and Golden Cuttlefish Sepia esculenta)

  • Cephalopods, such as the Japanese flying squid Todarodes pacificus and golden cuttlefish Sepia esculenta, are an important food source for all toothed whales, particularly bottlenose dolphins in costal and offshore waters around the Korean Peninsula. A controlled laboratory experiment was conducted to investigate the broadband acoustic backscattering from live individuals of these two cephalopod species using linear chirp signals (100-200 kHz). The backscattered echo signal was measured at about 1° intervals from -45° (head down) to +45° (head up) in the dorsal plane. The species-specific, frequency-dependent scattering characteristics were investigated by comparing the relationship between the wavelength-normalized backscattering cross-section (σ/λ2) and the wavelength-normalized fish length L/λ for each species. The estimated σ/λ2 value for Japanese flying squid was 9.51 at an L/λ range of 12.79-30.27 (mean, 21.26). This was approximately 7% of the σ/λ2 value (136.1) for golden cuttlefish at an L/λ range of 9.07-25.49 (mean, 15.77).

Occurrence and Molecular Identification of Anisakis Dujardin, 1845 from Marine Fish in Southern Makassar Strait, Indonesia

  • Anisakis spp. (Nematoda: Anisakidae) parasitize a wide range of marine animals, mammals serving as the definitive host and different fish species as intermediate or paratenic hosts. In this study, 18 fish species were investigated for Anisakis infection. Katsuwonus pelamis, Euthynnus affinis, Caranx sp., and Auxis thazard were infected with high prevalence of Anisakis type I, while Cephalopholis cyanostigma and Rastrelliger kanagurta revealed low prevalence. The mean intensity of Anisakis larvae in K. pelamis and A. thazard was 49.7 and 5.6, respectively. A total of 73 Anisakis type I larvae collected from K. pelamis and A. thazard were all identified as Anisakis typica by PCR-RFLP analysis. Five specimens of Anisakis from K. pelamis and 15 specimens from A. thazard were sequenced using ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region and 6 specimens from A. thazard and 4 specimens from K. pelamis were sequenced in mtDNA cox2 region. Alignments of the samples in the ITS region showed 2 patterns of nucleotides. The first pattern (genotype) of Anisakis from A. thazard had 100% similarity with adult A. typica from dolphins from USA, whereas the second genotype from A. thazard and K. pelamis had 4 base pairs different in ITS1 region with adult A. typica from USA. In the mtDNA cox2 regions, Anisakis type I specimens from A. thazard and K. pelamis showed similarity range from 94% to 99% with A. typica AB517571/DQ116427. The difference of 4 bp nucleotides in ITS1 regions and divergence into 2 subgroups in mtDNA cox2 indicating the existence of A. typica sibling species in the Makassar Strait.
