Vocalizations of the common dolphin Delphinus Delphis, were recorded from a single hydrophone while coastal visual survey was performed in the East Sea in March 2017. Like most Delphinidae, common dolphins produce whistles, echolocation clicks, and burst-pulsed calls, with repertoires that differ between species and geographically separated populations. This study focuses on using frequency analysis to classify sounds into three categories and to compare them with those of other common dolphin populations. The fundamental frequencies of the whistles were high in the 6 to 14 kHz range, while echolocation clicks were in the 40 to 90 kHz frequency band. These results are similar to high-energy distributions in the same frequency band in other regions. Based on this study of the acoustic characteristics of dolphins off the east coast of Korea, cetacean vocalizations can be classified using a database of cetacean sounds in Korea. In addition, this technique could improve data quality for visual whale surveys and could be applied to various other research subjects.
This paper proposes a dolphin whistle mimicking underwater communication method using FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) and method to improve BER (Bit Error Rate) performance by using multipath gain combining. The proposed method divides whistle sound into short time intervals and transmits FSK modulated signal that ensures orthogonality of the symbol. Multipath gain can be obtained by using characteristic of mimicked signal frequency that varies with time. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations and lake experiments were conducted. Computer simulation results show that an additional multipath gain is obtained by multipath. From lake experiments, when symbol length is 20 msec and modulation band is 900 Hz, the proposed FSK method with multipath combining gain obtains BER of 0.002, which is better than CSS (Chirp Spread Spectrum) with BER of 0.185. he proposed based on FSK method has higher imitation degree than the CSS method by analyzing mean cross-correlation value in the time - frequency domain of the imitated signal and actual whistle signal.
Recently, the functions of smart speakers have diversified, and the penetration rate of smart speakers is increasing. As it becomes more widespread, various techniques have been proposed to cause anomalous behavior against smart speakers. Dolphin Attack, which causes anomalous behavior against the Voice Controllable System (VCS) during various attacks, is a representative method. With this method, a third party controls VCS using ultrasonic band (f>20kHz) without the user's recognition. However, since the method uses the ultrasonic band, it is necessary to install an ultrasonic speaker or an ultrasonic dedicated device which is capable of outputting an ultrasonic signal. In this paper, a smart speaker is controlled by generating an audio signal modulated at a frequency (18 to 20) which is difficult for a person to hear although it is in the human audible frequency band without installing an additional device, that is, an ultrasonic device. As a result with the method proposed in this paper, while humans could not recognize voice commands even in the audible band, it was possible to control the smart speaker with a probability of 82 to 96%.
The trematodes of Genus Nasitrema are the most common infection in the heads of small odontocetes. Five species of Nasitrema have been described in Asia. But those parasites has been not surveyed in the East Sea of Korean peninsula. There are no evidence of pathology associated with Nasitrema attenuate. To determine the infection ratio of N. attenuata in the dolphin, it was surveyed 9 long-beaked common dolphin, Delphinus capensis, caught incidentally from Samcheok to Pohang, East Sea, Korea. Five males and four females, estimated to be between 1 to 10 years old, were examined. The quantity of N. attenuata harvested by aspiration from pterygoid sinuses ranged from 10 to 100 with a 100% (9/9) infection with older dolphins exhibiting higher parasite counts. The body of trematoda was elongated with tegumental patches resembling the leaves of lilies and oral sucker located ventrally at the anterior terminal. Esophagus was absent and intestinal bifurcation arose immediately from the posterior of pharynx. The undulated intestinal caeca transversed the entire body and terminated at the posterior extremity of the worm. The genital pore opened anterior to the ventral sucker. This report confirms the prevalence and morphology of N. attenuata in the dolphins from the East Sea, Korea.

The Incheon Bridge, which was opened to the traffic in October 2009, is an 18.4 km long sea-crossing bridge connecting the Incheon International Airport with the expressway networks around the Seoul metropolitan area by way of Songdo District of Incheon City. This bridge is an integration of several special featured bridges and the major part of the bridge consists of cable-stayed spans. This marine cable-stayed bridge has a main span of 800 m wide to cross the vessel navigation channel in and out of the Incheon Port. In waterways where ship collision is anticipated, bridges shall be designed to resist ship impact forces, and/or, adequately protected by ship impact protection (SIP) systems. For the Incheon Bridge, large diameter circular dolphins as SIP were made at 44 locations of the both side of the main span around the piers of the cable-stayed bridge span. This world's largest dolphin-type SIP system protects the bridge against the collision with 100,000 DWT tanker navigating the channel with speed of 10 knots. Diameter of the dolphin is up to 25 m. Vessel collision risk was assessed by probability based analysis with AASHTO Method-II. The annual frequency of bridge collapse through the risk analysis for 71,370 cases of the impact scenario was less than $0.5{\times}10^{-4}$ and satisfies design requirements. The dolphin is the circular sheet pile structure filled with crushed rock and closed at the top with a robust concrete cap. The structural design was performed with numerical analyses of which constitutional model was verified by the physical model experiment using the geo-centrifugal testing equipment. 3D non-linear finite element models were used to analyze the structural response and energy-dissipating capability of dolphins which were deeply embedded in the seabed. The dolphin structure secures external stability and internal stability for ordinary loads such as wave and current pressure. Considering failure mechanism, stability assessment was performed for the strength limit state and service limit state of the dolphins. The friction angle of the crushed stone as a filling material was reduced to $38^{\circ}$ considering the possibility of contracting behavior as the impact.

As a part of theoretical and experimental research works for the prediction and improvement of ship's maneuvering performance, an experimental study for the optimum rudder design has been carried out. Largely, this study is composed of the investigations on three major characteristics which determine rudder performance, that is, the investigations on section shape, planform and aspect ratio, and the investigation on the special section shapes. Some practically useful design directions and conclusion for each characteristic have been derived through this study. Among special section shapes, dolphin-tail type section shape has shown a possibility of significantly improving rudder performance if utilized as the section of rudders.

The underwater sound transmission system(USTS) was experimentally made to monitor the cetacean's appearance by telemetry, and then its system was tested to evaluate its performance from July to October, 2007 at the Kimnyeong berth and the dolphin's breeding ground of Pacific Land in Jeju island, respectively. The results showed that the sweep sound in the trial experiment and the whistle sound of bottlenose dolphin(Tursiops truncatus) were favorably received by telemetry. Therefore, we could confirm the USTS is able to monitor the cetacean's appearance in real time without direct observation at sea within effective range of code division multiple access(CDMA) communication method.
Recently, bottlenose dolphins have frequently appeared in coastal waters of the Jeju Islands. To determine whether these individuals belong to one or more pods, the Cetacean Research Institute (CRI) established visual and photo-identification surveys in the Jeju Islands from November 2007 to July 2009. During visual surveys, pods composed of 10 to 80 individuals were sighted mainly in the northeastern and northwestern of Jeju Islands. Eighty-nine individuals were identified and cataloged by photo-identification using natural nicks and notches on their dorsal fins. Thirty-six individuals were identified three times or more, and nine individuals were identified five times during seven surveys. One individual appeared in November 2007, August 2008, October 2008, April 2009, and July 2009. The results of our study confirm that these dolphins represent a coastal resident stock. Futhermore, we will establish dolphin abundance, management, and usage studies using continuous visual and photo-identification surveys.
Pacific white-sided dolphins Lagenorhynchus obliquidens inhabit cool temperate waters; in Korean waters, they concentrate near the coast of Gangwon and Gyeongbuk from late autumn to early spring. We collected 15 individuals from Yeongduk, Gyeongju, Ulsan, and Busan between December 2018 and February 2019 and analyzed their stomach contents. Fresh prey items were identified to the species level, and residual stomach contents that were unidentified due to digestion were filtered through a sieve to find fish otoliths and cephalopod beaks. The most important prey items of Pacific white-sided dolphins were cephalopods, composing 68.0% of the diet by occurrence. Fishes were the second largest dietary component, making up 32.0% of the diet by occurrence. Of the cephalopod species consumed, Watasenia scintilans was the principal prey item.
