  • Laser Inertial Navigation System(LINS) consists of Ring Laser Gyroscopes(RLG) and accelerometers. RLG has a lock-in region in which there is zero output for input angular rates less than 0.1deg/sec. The lock-in region is generated by the imperfect mirrors in RLG. To avoid the lock-in region, sinusoidal motion which is called dither motion is applied on RLG. Therefore without the fault in LINS, the dither motion must be measured by RLG/accelerometer. In this paper, we propose the method to detect the fault of LINS through checking out whether or not the dither motion is always measured by RLG/accelerometer using the Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) on the real time. The feasibility of the fault detection method proposed in this paper is verified through the stationary and van test.

  • Development of a locomotive mechanism for the capsule type endoscopes will largely enhance the ability to diagnose disease of digestive organs. In connection with it, most of the researches have focused on an installable locomotive mechanism in the capsule. In this paper, it is introduced that the movement of a capsule type endoscope in digestive organ can be manipulated by magnetic force produced outside human body. Since the magnetic force is provided by permanent magnets, no additional power supply to the capsule is required. Using a robotic manipulator for locating the external magnet, the capsule motion control system can cover the whole human digestive organs. This study is particularly concentrated on dither motion effect to improve the mobility of capsule type endoscope. It was experimentally found out that the friction coefficient between the capsule and digestive organ can be remarkably reduced by superposing yawing or rolling dither motion on the translatory motion. In this paper, the experimental results obtained while the direction, amplitude and frequency of sinusoidal dither motion were changed are reported.

  • It is required for getting the ring laser gyro output purely related to the input rotation to eliminate the output of the modulated angular vibration from the ring laser signal. In this paper we discuss the dither stripping methods of compensating the ring laser signal by converting the rate signal of dither detector from voltage to frequency for a dither type ring laser gyro. We discuss the differential methods for getting rid of the offset of the V-F signal. And we develope the methods of compensating the phase differences between the ring laser signals and the V-F differential signals by using analog integrator and digital time delays. And also, we develope the gain calculation method by comparing the standard deviations of the ring laser signals with V-F differential signals. We implemented these methods and analyzed the effectiveness of these methods by comparing the dither trapping methods.

RLG has a lock-in region in which there is zero output for input angular rates less than about 0.1deg/sec. The lock-in region is generated by the imperfect mirrors in RLG. To avoid the lock-in region, a sinusoidal motion called dither motion is applied on RLG. Therefore this dither motion is measured by RLG/accelerometer even if at a stop state. In this situation, the performance on the initial alignment of LINS can be degraded. In this paper, we analyze the performance on the initial alignment of LINS theoretically and experimentally. Analysis results include how dither motion, the pre-filter and the corner frequency in alignment loop affects the performance on the initial alignment of LINS.

  • There are trapping and stripping methods as the technique to remove the dither motion from RLG(Ring Laser Gyro) output. V/F converter output of angular sensor to measure the dither motion is used in stripping method. But bias and scale factor error is always included in V/F converter output and is a critical limiting factor for the wide application of stripping method to RLG. Therefore there have been many researches to solve this problem. The method to accurately estimate the bias and scale factor error of V/F converter using measurements of the angular sensor acquired at data sampling rate of INS is presented in this paper. To this end, stripping technique based on model of dither motion is newly applied.

  • In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the self-alignment/navigation performance in the accelerometer resonance state generated by dither motion of ring laser gyroscope in LINS and verified it through simulation. As a result of analysis, it is confirmed that the amplitude of the accelerometer measurement amplified in the accelerometer resonance state is decreased in the process of sampling per the navigation calculation period and that frequency is changed by the aliasing effect too. It was also analysed that the attitude error in self-alignment is determined by the amplitude/frequency of the accelerometer measurement, the gain of the self-alignment loop, and the velocity and position error in the navigation is determined by the amplitude/frequency/phase error of the accelerometer measurement. This analysis and simulation results show that the self-alignment and navigation performance is not be degraded only when the amplification factor of the accelerometer measurement in the accelerometer resonance state is 3 or less

  • The ring laser gyro(RLG) has been used extensively in strapdown inertial navigation system(SDINS) because of the apparent of having wide dynamic range, digital output and high accuracy. The dithered RLG system has dynamic motion at sensor level, caused by the dithering motion to overcome the lock-in threshold. In this case, an attitude error is produced by not only the true coning of the vehicle motion but also the pseudo coning of the sensor motion. This paper describes the definition of the multi-frequency coning motion and its noncommutativity error to reject the pseudo coning error produced by the sensor motion such as the dithered RLG. The simulation results are presented to minimize the multi-frequency coning error.
