  • This paper presents the problem of controlling asynchronous sequential machines in the presence of input disturbances, which may be also regarded as an adversary in a game theoretic setting. The main objective is to develope a new methodology for including unpredictable behavior of input disturbance into models of asynchronous machines. The input disturbance, representing uncontrollable noise input, is embedded into a new model of asynchronous machines in form of input/state finite state machines. It is shown that the proposed modeling preserves the fundamental model and well-pose of asynchronous machines. The reachability matrix, an important performance index of asynchronous machines, is also adapted according to input disturbance and will be used for constructing corrective controllers in the companion paper.

  • The final aim of our research project is a study on assessment of automatic steering system of ships in open seas. In order to achieve this aim we need to know the characteristics of each component of the system and also to know the characteristics of disturbance to ship dynamcis. In this paper we provide calculation method of irregular disturbance to ships in autopilot navigation in open seas and also show calculation examples about two kinds of ship ore carrier and fishing boat. The disturbance consists of irregular wave and random wind, The disturbance is calculated as equivalent yaw angular velocity. Each spectrum and time history of disturbance are reasonably evaluated. Further investigation concerning to performance index of autopilot system and energy loss related to automatic course keeping will be dealt with in another paper,

  • In this paper we propose a disturbance design method to test a system's stability. It is shown that the time maximum disturbance is represented in bang-bang and state feedback form. To maximize the time severity index, the value of disturbance is determined by the associated switch curve. The original switch curve is vulnerable to model uncertainties and takes much calculation time. We propose an improved method to approximate the original switch curve. This reduces the computational time and implements sufficiently to test the stable system. Simulation results show how the approximate switch curve can be used to stress a system by driving it to oscillation along the maximum limit cycle.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the degree of stress state and stress related factors in 280 male white collar workers by using Psychosocial Well-being Index. The results were as follows; 1. According to Psychosocial Well-being Index, mild stress state was 78.6 %, healthy state was 12.9 %, and high risk stress state was 8.6 %. Single marital status, low education level, low income and low frequency of exercise group had high score of stress. 2. The total stress score was highly associated with the factors of social performance and self confidence, depression, general well-being and vitality, and sleeping disturbance and anxiety in order. 3. In reliability test of stress factors, Cronbach's a coefficients of social performance and self confidence, sleeping disturbance and anxiety, depression, general well-being and vitality were 0.91, 0.91, 0.90, and 0.89 respectively. In conclusion, it suggested that marital status, income, education, and exercise were associated with stress score. All of the above factors should be considered to white collar workers health.

  • This study describes compressive characteristics of marine clay at southwestern coast in Korea by large block and piston samples. Through the analysis of disturbance effect and various consolidation test, consolidation result shows that volumetric strain from large block samples is lower than piston samples and compression index of large block samples is larger than piston samples value. We suggest new empirical equation of compression index by the effect of compression index following sampling method. If consolidation settlement is presumed using empirical equation of compression index, the resort will be more reasonable in predicting settlement than that obtained by the decision of compressibility characteristics from piston samples.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to identify direct, mediating, and moderating relationships of mood disturbance, symptom experience, and attentional function in Korean women with breast cancer based upon a middle-range theory of unpleasant symptoms. Methods. This study used a cross-sectional, correlational design. A convenience sample of 125 women receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer was recruited from a university hospital in South Korea. The women completed questionnaires on mood disturbance, symptom experience, and attentional function using the Linear Analogue Self-Assessment Scale, the Symptom Experience Scale, and the Attentional Function Index, respectively. Results. Each mood disturbance and symptom experience showed a significant relationship with attentional function. Symptom experience did not act as a mediator between mood disturbance and attentional function, but it did act as a moderator: patients with a higher level of mood disturbance exhibited a lower level of attentional function when their symptoms were at the level of medium, but not when their symptoms were either high or low. Conclusion. This suggests that clinical interventions for attenuating the influence of mood disturbance on attentional function may be effective only in women experiencing medium level of symptoms.

  • In the injection molding process, the controlling stability of products quality is a very important factor in terms of productivity. Even when the optimum process conditions for the desired product quality are applied, uncontrollable external factors such as ambient temperature and humidity cause inevitable changes in the state of the melt resin, mold temperature. etc. Therefore, it is very difficult to maintain prodcut quality. In this study, a system that learns the correlation between process variables and product weight through artificial neural networks and predicts process conditions for the target weight was established. Then, when a disturbance occurs in the injection molding process and fluctuations in the weight of the product occur, the stability control of the product quality was performed by ANN predicting a new process condition for the change of weight. In order to artificially generate disturbance in the injection molding process, controllable factors were selected and changed among factors not learned in the ANN model. Initially, injection molding was performed with a polypropylene having a melt flow index of 10 g/10min, and then the resin was replaced with a polypropylene having a melt floiw index of 33 g/10min to apply disturbance. As a result, when the disturbance occurred, the deviation of the weight was -0.57 g, resulting in an error of -1.37%. Using the control method proposed in the study, through a total of 11 control processes, 41.57 g with an error of 0.00% in the range of 0.5% deviation of the target weight was measured, and the weight was stably maintained with 0.15±0.07% error afterwards.

  • An invasive disturbance species has caused harm to biodiversity and ecosystem. To address the issue, identifying the characteristics of a habitat for invasive disturbance species is considered for forest management. This study analyzed a status of plant species by field survey based on belt transect method in the capital areas and established a predictive model for invasive disturbance species by logistic regression. As results of the study, the number of herb, vine, and invasive disturbance species and a canopy cover of tree would decrease from the forest edge to core areas (p<0.001). The predictive model was derived with variables of altitude, Topographic Wetness Index, distance to forest edge, and canopy cover of tree. It can be useful in estimating the presence or absence of species and predicting its spatial distribution. Further studies are needed to identify the pathway of introduction, spread, and possibility of germination for understanding the status of invasive disturbance species in more depth.

  • The soil parameters important for the design of the soft ground are the compression index ($C_c$), the consolidation settlement and consolidation speed at the field. Compression index is obtained by laboratory consolidation test. In the laboratory consolidation test, sample disturbance always occurs. In order to correct the disturbance phenomena, the method of calculating the compression index proposed by Schmertmann (1955) is generally used. However, recent developments in sampling technology and Korean soil conditions are different from those proposed by Schmertmann. So it needs to be verified. In this study, each consolidation curve's cross void ratio is evaluated by doing consolidation test varying disturbance on high-plastic clay (CH), low-plastic clay (CL) and low-plastic silt (ML). The test results were $0.521e_0$ for low-plastic silt, $0.404e_0$ for low-plastic clay, and $0.458e_0$ for the high-plastic clay. This results were different from those of Schmertmann's suggested value of $0.42e_0$. Therefor we proposed a correction formula using the plastic index according to soil type. However, since the results of this study are limited test results, further studies on various korean soil are needed to suggest the compression index correction method according to the degree of plasticity index of soil.
