The objectives of this study are to analyze the factors affecting the structural changes of agricultural land use in Gyeongsangnam-do and to prospect for its future use. Seven commodity groups are categorized to include all agricultural products: rice, summer food crops, summer vegetables and other cash crops, fruits, barley, winter field vegetables, and winter greenhouse vegetables. We developed a model for acreage distribution among the seven commodity groups, and estimated the economic relations between prices and acreage distribution. The results showed positive relations exist between cultivating acreage and own commodity prices in all commodity groups, whereas competitive relations exist between summer commodity groups or winter commodity groups such that rice price decreases led to increases of fruits cultivating acreage or vice versa and winter vegetable price increases led to increases of winter greenhouse vegetables cultivating acreage or vice versa. Further, acreage elasticities with respect to own commodity prices or farm wage rates are estimated over the last 30 years, and future agricultural land use in Gyeongsangnam-do is prospected based on three different scenarios. Total agricultural land use in Gyeongsangnam-do will be decreased over the next 10 years from 159,000 ha in year 2010 to 143,000~153,000 ha in year 2020. By commodity group, cultivating acreage of rice, summer food crops, and barley will be decreased while cultivating acreage of summer vegetables, fruits, winter field vegetables, and winter greenhouse vegetables will be stagnant.

This study aims to make an analysis of the innovation milieu in connection with the agricultural products and distribution system, and suggest policy alternatives for agricultural development and rural community. The decisions on the agricultural management are highly depend on the individual farm household' conditions(labor force or profits) rather than the crop units(JAKMOKBAN) or others. The partnerships of the innovation agents and trust between the individual farm households are considerably weak. From this paper, we suggest as follows to improve the regional agricultural industry and rural community development. The individual farm households need to convert market-oriented production system. And it is more important to enhance the innovation milieu than to enlarge physical infrastructure for agricultural development and rural community.

This study attempted to understand the perception and the degree of trust that consumers had in the national agricultural food accreditation system, to inquire into and examine the consumers' perception of traditional food quality certification performed for the protection of excellent traditional food, and to propose the right direction for the policies on the traditional food quality certification system and the plans to improve consumers' perception of the system. According to the results of this survey performed in married women, based on the 'the recognition of accreditation system' and 'the recognition of certification marks' of 'the seventh national agricultural food accreditation system' presently being used by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the household food purchasers showed high recognition for eco-friendly agricultural product accreditation, processed food KS certification, and organically processed food certification in that order. Meanwhile, it was shown that they indicated low recognition for the traditional food-related accreditation systems such as 'traditional food quality certification' and 'food grand master'. It was found that reliability of the certification mark provided by the agricultural food accreditation system gained 3.54 points (on a 5-point scale), and 68.1% of the study subjects referred to the certification marks while purchasing agricultural foods. And most of them answered to the question of 'why they referred to the certification marks' saying that it was done 'to choose safe food'. The most frequent answer to question of 'the means to recognize the traditional food quality certification system' was 'broadcasting, advertising'. 57.3% of the subjects had a previous experience of buying a product certified by the traditional food quality certification system, and 93.2% of all the subjects had the intention to buy a product certified by the traditional food quality certification system later. And most of them answered that 'strengthening government policies' would be the most ideal way to inform the public of the traditional food quality certification system. According to the results of this study, while 'relying on the traditional food quality certification system in general' was relatively high among the consumers, 'intention to buy quality certified products by visiting a distantly located store' was low; thus, from this analysis, it can be seen that there is a need for diversification of places selling these quality certified products and to establish a distribution network for these products.
Purpose: The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers used to package agricultural products rapidly decreases owing to various environmental factors encountered during the distribution of unitized products. The main factors affecting compression strength are moisture absorption, long-term top load, and fatigue caused by shock and vibration during transport. This study characterized the durability of corrugated fiberboard containers for packaging fruits and vegetables under simulated transportation conditions. Methods: Compression tests were done after corrugated fiberboard containers containing fruit were vibrated by an electro-dynamic vibration test system using the power spectral density of routes typically traveled to transport fruits and vegetables in South Korea. Results: To predict loss of compression strength owing to vibration fatigue, a multiple nonlinear regression equation ($r^2=0.9217$, $RMSE=0.6347$) was developed using three independent variables of initial container compression strength, namely top stacked weight, loading weight, and vibration time. To test the applicability of our model, we compared our experimental results with those obtained during a road test in which peaches were transported in corrugated containers. Conclusions: The comparison revealed a highly significant ($p{\leq}0.05$) relationship between the experimental and road-test results.
This experiment was carried out to compare with the physico-chemical properties of granular fused magnesium phosphates which were two domestic products(Pungnong Biryo Industrial Co., LTD and Kyunggi Chemical Industrial Co., LTD) and a imported Chinese product. The changes of pH, distribution of particle size, disintegration in water and in soil, hardness in soil, chemical composition, and dissolution rates in water, in soil and in 2% citric acid solution were investigated. The changes in pH were bigger in Jungmun series(black volcanic soil), in the imported chinese product, and in Jungmun series with the larger quantities applied. The domestic products were lower in pH, calcium, alkalinity and 1/2N-HCl soluble silicate than the Chinese product but total(Aqua regia) soluble phosphate, 2% citric acid soluble phosphate, 1/2N-HCl soluble and 2% citric acid soluble magnesium, and 2% citric acid soluble manganese concentration were similar among the domestic products and the imported product. In particle sizes, Chinese product was the biggest, Kyunggi product was the next, and Pungnong product was the smallest. The changes of disintegration rate in water and in soil were smaller in Pungnong and Kyunggi products at the early days of dissolution, and there were decreased with the order of Kyunggi product> Chinese product> Pungnong product at the latter days. The hardness of the products in soil was the strongest in Kyunggi product, the next was Pungnong product and Chinese product was the weakest so as to hardly measurable. The changing dissolution rates of 2% citric acid soluble phosphate concentration of granular fused magnesium phosphate products were the highest in Kyunggi product and the lowest in Pungnong product at the early days, the three products were dissolved over 90% within 50 days, and there were no clear difference among the products after 70 days of dissolution. The dissolution rates of 2% citric acid soluble phosphate concentration of granular fused magnesium phosphate products in soil were the highest in Pungnong product and Chinese product was the lowest, but they were less than 60% in 100 days of dissolution.
Daqu, a traditional fermentation starter, has been used to produce attractively flavored foods such as vinegar and Chinese liquor for thousands of years. Although Bacillus spp. are one of the dominant microorganisms in Daqu, more precise information is needed to reveal why and how Bacillus became dominant in Daqu, and next, to assess the impact of Bacillus sp. on Daqu and its derived products. We combined culture-dependent and culture-independent methods to study the ecology of Bacillus during Daqu incubation. Throughout the incubation, 67 presumptive Bacillus spp. isolates were obtained, 52 of which were confirmed by 16S rDNA sequencing. The identified organisms belonged to 8 Bacillus species: B. licheniformis, B. subtilis, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. cereus, B. circulans, B. megaterium, B. pumilus, and B. anthracis. A primer set specific for Bacillus and related genera was used in a selective PCR study, followed by a nested DGGE PCR targeting the V9 region of the 16S rDNA. Species identified from the PCR-DGGE fingerprints were related to B. licheniformis, B. subtilis, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. pumilus, B. benzoevorans, and B. foraminis. The predominant species was found to be B. licheniformis. Certain B. licheniformis strains exhibited potent antimicrobial activities. The greatest species diversity occurred at the Liangmei stage of Daqu incubation. To date, we lack sufficient knowledge of Bacillus distribution in Daqu. Elucidating the ecology of Bacillus during Daqu incubation would enable the impact of Bacillus on Daqu to be accessed, and the quality and stabilization of Daqu-derived products to be optimized.
The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers for packaging the agricultural products rapidly decreases because of various environmental conditions during distribution of unitized products. Among various environmental conditions, the main factors affecting the compression strength of corrugated fiberboard are absorption of moisture, long-term accumulative load, and fatigue caused by shock and vibration. An estimated rate of damage for fruit during distribution is about 30~40% owing to the shock and vibration. This study was carried out to characterize the durability of corrugated fiberboard containers for packaging the fruits and vegetables under simulated transportation environment. After the packaging freight was vibrated at various experimental conditions, the compression test for the packaging was performed. The compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers decreased with loading weight and vibration time. The multiple nonlinear regression equation ($R^2$ = 0.9198) for predicting the decreasing rate of compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers were developed using four independent variables such as input acceleration level, input frequency, loading weight and vibration time.
In this study, we have examined concentration distribution and patterns of PCBs in waters, sediments and soils in an agricultural area of South Korea to investigate the relationship between PCBs sources and concentration levels. The concentration of PCBs in water samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 8.25 ug/L and the concentration of PCBs in sediment samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 76.67 ug/Kg. The concentration of PCBs in soil samples were ranged from lower values below detection limit to 23.51 ug/Kg. These contamination levels were far below the guideline values suggested for environmental quality assessment. The homologue patterns in samples varied from sample to sample, but isomer patterns were very similar with each other. PCB-138 and PCB-153 were predominant congeners in the soil and sediment, which were similar to the results obtained from previous studies. With these results, the assessment of potential sources of PCBs contamination in the sediments of the Nakdong river basin was performed. The principal components were extracted by Principal Component Analysis(PCA). As the result of PCA, it could be expected that PCBs in samples of this study were more affected by PCB products than combustion processes and mostly affected by already-known sources. The PCBs in the soil and sediment samples were related with commercial PCB products.

The proposed system using EPC network can provide informations of agro-livestock products traceability quickly and efficiently.
