  • In this paper, we consider the development methodology of wireless monitoring system for a distribution transformer. The master/ slave devices are installed in the power distribution feeder and measure the current state of pole or ground transformers. After measuring, the devices send the measurement data to operating room through the wireless network such as RF and CDMA so that the power distribution supervisor can prevent a distribution transformer damaging caused by overloads and imbalance of loads.

  • This paper covers general recommendations for top-oil temperature rising of mineral-oil-immersed power distribution transformer rated 100kVA and less, manufactured in Korea. In order to analyze the top-oil temperature rising due to the distribution transformer loading we performed experiments for oil-immersed distribution transformer, manufactured in domestic at KERI(Korea Electrical Research Institute) from December 2000 to May 2001. The magnitude of loading were changed, and the top-oil temperatures for each time were measured. Finally, we present the overload criteria of distribution transformer for summer and winter season in domestic. respectively.

  • In this paper, we present 2-step load cycle for daily load curve of up to and including 100kVA distribution transformer in domestic. Daily load patterns are classified by two methods dependent upon possession information. In case we possess daily load profiles make use of K-mean algorithm and in case we have not daily load profiles, make use of customer information of KEPCO. As the parameters of the load pattern classification, we use are daily load profiles and customer information of each distribution transformers. Data management system is used for NT oracle. We can present peak load magnitude, initial load magnitude and peak load duration for daily load patterns by 2-step load cycle for daily load curve of up to and including 100kVA distribution transformer in domestic. We think that this paper contributes to enhancing the distribution transformer overload criterion.

  • The cost needed to managing equipment is constantly increasing because of increase of power equipment. The regulations such as PAS 55 and ISO 55000 were enacted to manage equipment assets. The advanced management methods such as real-time monitoring, condition evaluation, and health indices are avalable in generation system, transmission system, and substation transformers. However, These methods can not be applied to distribution equipment because of a lot of equipment. Therefore reliability assessment is very important in case of distribution equipment. In this paper, failure rates are extracted considering characteristics of regions, and which are the essential factors to reliability evaluation.

  • In this paper, temperature distribution of 24 MVA distribution cast-resin transformers is analyzed by using CFD. Usually heat generated in transformer causes many problems. To radiate the heat, conduction and convection are done through the duct between winding. Considering natural convection, fluid analysis is applied to the fluid region surrounding the transformer. As a result of the analysis, hot spot temperature point is predicted at the low-voltage winding. Through this paper, heat distribution and cooling characteristics property can be predicted by analyzing transformer heating characteristic required when designing.

  • The dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for transformers was experimented and then its data were applied to Weibull distribution probability. First of all, speaking of dielectric breakdown properties, the more hardener increased, the stronger breakdown strength became at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical. The breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised and the electric field is concentrated. In the case of filled specimens with treating silane, the breakdown strength become much higher. Finally, according to Weibull distribution analysis, reducing breakdown probability of equipment insulation lower than 0.1 % level requires the allowable field intensity values to be kept under 21.5 MV/cm.

  • Small impedances in the superconducting parallel circuits cause unequal distribution of the currents in the circuits. This results in quenches or losses in some superconducting parts and decrease of total transport current. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of a superconducting multi- interphase transformers (SIPT) for equal current distribution in superconducting parallel circuits. The secondary loop configuration with air core SIPT seems to be the most efficient one for the SFCL. Test results show that the SIPT can effectively make the current distribution uniform in Parallel circuits that have unequal resistances.

  • As increasing the accident of Distribution Transformer (DT), we need to manage them efficiently. In this paper, we discusses with the possibility of the diagnostic technique for distribution transformer using relative ageing rate calculation in this paper. The relative ageing rate of the DT could be calculated from the measured top oil temperature, ambient temperature and load current. In order on apply the proposed diagnostic technique we developed an on line Monitoring and Diagnostic System (MDS) which has hardware and software part. Diagnostic device is developed to measure the state information of DT and to send them with R/F(radio frequency) communication. Host computer monitors and saves the receive data. The database is constructed from the data of distributed DT and it is used for estimating loss-of-life in the MDS.
