This paper focuses on the free vibration analysis of axially functionally graded (FG) Euler-Bernoulli beams. The material properties of the beams are assumed to obey the linear law distribution. The complexities in solving differential equation of transverse vibration of composite beams which limit the analytical solution to some special cases are overcome using the Differential Transformation Method (DTM). Natural frequencies and corresponding normalized mode shapes are calculated. Validation targets are experimental data or finite element results. Different parameters such as reinforcement distribution, ratio of the reinforcement Young's modulus to the matrix Young's modulus and ratio of the reinforcement density to the matrix density are taken into investigation. The delivered results prove the capability and the robustness of the applied method. The studied parameters are demonstrated to be very crucial for the normalized natural frequencies and mode shapes.

Objective of this study is to understand the diagonal reinforcement around openings on the control of diagonal crack, load distribution, and ultimate strength of reinforced concrete two-span continuous deep beams. Test results of four specimens showed that the strength lost by openings might be completed when diagonal reinforcement ratio was above 0.0014.

This Paper presents the result of a parametric study on the behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental wall resting on non-yielding foundation. The parametric study was conducted using the nonlinear finite element analysis. In the finite element analysis, the step by step construction of the wall such as backfill, block reinforcement, block/backfill and soil/reinforcement interfaces were carefully modeled. The mechanical behavior of stiffened grid reinforced segmental walls was then investigated based on the result of analysis with emphasis on the effect of reinforcement stiffness on the behavior of the wall. The results of analysis indicate that the horizontal wall displacement decrease; with increasing the reinforcement stiffness at a decreasing rate, and that the horizontal stress at the back of the reinforced soil block does not much vary with the reinforcement stiffness. It is also revealed that the calculated maximum vertical stress at the base of the reinforced soil block agrees well with that based on the Meyerhof distribution and that the reinforcement and the connection force are considerably smaller than what might be expected based on the current design assumptions. The implications of the findings from this study to current design approaches were discussed in detail.

The purpose of this study is to research dampers, which are applied mainly to buildings adjacent to the coast, such as nuclear facilities, and used for ventilation and can safely protect lives and equipment in emergency situations. Comparing the equivalent stress for three models with hinge reinforcement and support reinforcement based on the early design model for Damper, in the Base model, the highest stress occurred in the part of hinge, especially in the centrally mounted hinge, and after reinforced the hinge, it was occurred in the rear support. For models reinforced hinges and supports, it is considered that reinforcement for stiffness will be required in the future as it entered within the range of allowable stress. For the safety factor distribution, the minimum safety ratio was sufficiently secured at least 1 and was high at the edge of the Damper frame and the Blade. As the hinge was reinforced, the safety factor distribution of Blade was increased, and it was verified that the safety factor was secured through the support reinforcement.
Reinforcement corrosion is one of the major problems in the durability of reinforced concrete structures exposed to aggressive environments. Deterioration caused by reinforcement corrosion reduces the durability and the safety margin of concrete structures, causing excessive costs in managing these structures safely. This paper aims to investigate the effects of reinforcement corrosion on the load bearing capacity deterioration of the corroded reinforced concrete structures. A new analytical method is proposed to predict the crack growth of cover concrete and evaluate the residual strength of concrete structures with corroded reinforcement failing in bond. The structural performance indicators, such as concrete crack growth and flexural strength deterioration rate, are assumed to be a stochastic process for lifetime distribution modelling of structural performance deterioration over time during the life cycle. The Weibull life evolution model is employed for analysing lifetime reliability and estimating remaining useful life of the corroded concrete structures. The results for the worked example show that the proposed approach can provide a reliable method for lifetime performance assessment of the corroded reinforced concrete structures.

The contemporary buildings are becoming super-taller gradually as the industry evolves. Accordingly, winter concrete also became an important element for the year-round construction since shortening of a construction duration became important. Accordingly, this research team once developed a double bubble sheet as concrete cover curing compound during winter. But since there is no proper countermeasure for the exposed reinforcement bars, it is worried that the concrete can be damaged by exposed frozen reinforcement bars at a low temperature during the initial period. Therefore, in this study, it is intended to review the temperature history of the reinforcement bars depending on changes of the covering methods of the exposed reinforcement bars by using bubble sheets.
The creep resistance of geogrids is one of the most significant long-term safety characteristics used as the reinforcement in slopes and embankments. The failure of geogrids is defined as creep strain greater than 10%. In this study, the accelerated creep tests were applied to polyester geogrids at various loading levels of 30, 50% of the yield strengths and temperatures using newly designed test equipment. Also, the new test equipment permitted the creep testing at or above glass transition temperature($T_g$) of 75, 80, $85^{\circ}C$. The time-dependent creep behaviors were observed at various temperatures and loading levels. And then the creep curves were shifted and superposed in the time axis by applying time-temperature supposition principles. The shifting factors(AFs) were obtained using WLF equation. In predicting the lifetimes of geogrids, the underlying distribution for failure times were determined based on identification of the failure mechanism. The results confirmed that the failure distribution of geogrids followed Weibull distribution with increasing failure rate and the lifetimes of geogrids were close to 100 years which was required service life in the field with 1.75 of reduction factor of safety. Using the newly designed equipment, the creep test of geogrids was found to be highly accelerated. Furthermore, the time-temperature superposition with the newly designed test equipment was shown to be effective in predicting the lifetimes of geogrids with shorter test times and can be applied to the other geosynthetics.
The forming process of metal matrix composites by die casting and squeeze casting process are limited in size and dimension In term of final parts. The melt strirring method have the problems that the homogeneous distribution of the reinforcements is difficult due to the low weldability and the density difference between the molten metal and the reinforcement. The thixoforming process for metal matrix composites has numerous advantages compacted to die casting, squeeze casting and compocasting. However, for the thixofoming process, the billet with the desired volume fraction must be heated to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross-sectional areas. To obtain the reheating conditions of composites, the particulate reinforced metal matrix composites for thixoforming were fabricated by combined stirring process which is simultaneously performed with electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process. The matrix alloy and reinforcement are used to aluminum alloy(A357) and SiCp with diameter 14, $25{\mu}m$, respectively. The microstructure characteristics were investigated by changing the volume fraction and reinforcement size. The heating conditions to obtain the uniform temperature distribution in cross section area of fabricated metal matrix composites billet are proposed with heating time, the heating temperature and the holding time.
The behaviour of concrete confined by transverse reinforcement is a classical topic. Numerous studies have been conducted to establish the stress-strain relationships for concrete under various confining reinforcement arrangements. Many empirical and semi-empirical formulas exist. Simplified analytical models have also been proposed to evaluate the increase in the strength and ductility of confined concrete. However, relatively few studies have been conducted to utilise advanced computational models for a realistic simulation of the behaviour of concrete confined by transverse reinforcement. As a matter of fact, high fidelity simulations using the latest numerical solvers in conjunction with advanced material constitutive models can be a powerful means to investigating the mechanisms underlying the confining effects of different reinforcement schemes. This paper presents a study on the use of high fidelity finite element models for the investigation of the behaviour of concrete confined by stirrups, as well as the interpretation of the numerical results. The development of the models is described in detail, and the essential modelling considerations are discussed. The models are then validated by simulating representative experimental studies on short columns with different confining reinforcement schemes. The development and distribution of the confining stress and the subsequent increase in the axial strength are examined. The models are shown to be capable of reproducing the behaviour of the confined concrete realistically, paving a way for systematic parametric studies and investigation into complicated confinement, load combination, and dynamic loading situations.

Generally, when the stability of the geosynthetic reinforced soil slopes is analyzed, the required tensile forces of each reinforcement layers are calculated from total reinforcement forces which are necessary to retain the equilibrium state of slip mass in which the slip surfaces are assumed to be a linear or bilinear. It is assumed that the reinforcement forces are increased or constant with depth. However, according to the instrumented field data and laboratory model test results, the maximum tensile strain of reinforcement in a reinforced soil slope is developed in a certain elevation, not a bottom of the slope. In the concept of reinforced soil, postulated failure surfaces are the traces of the position in which the reinforcement tensile forces are maximum in the layer, and the reinforcement tensile forces are related to the stress state on the postulated failure surface. Therefore, in this study, based on the distribution of normal stress on the slip surface, a new method for the evaluation of required tensile forces is suggested and a number of the instrumented field data are analyzed by newly suggested method. As a result, it is shown that the newly suggested method produces relatively accurate reinforcement tension forces.
