  • Degradation data can provide more reliability information than traditional failure-time data, especially products with few or no failures. This paper is concerned with a method of estimating lifetime distribution from field data with supplementary information on degradation data and covariates. When a distribution of degradation rate obtained by follow-up study for a portion of products that survive after-warranty follows a reciprocal-Weibull or lognormal distribution. A time-to-failure distribution of the product follows Weibull or lognormal distribution, respectively. A method of estimating lifetime parameters for this kind of data and their asymptotic properties are studied. Effects of after-warranty report probability, follow-up rate, and proportion of degradation data on pseudo maximum likelihood estimators of these parameters are investigated.

  • Multivariate confidence regions were defined using a chi-square distribution function under a normal assumption and were represented with ellipse and ellipsoid types of bivariate and trivariate normal distribution functions. In this work, an alternative confidence region using the multivariate quantile vectors is proposed to define the normal distribution as well as any other distributions. These lower and upper bounds could be obtained using quantile vectors, and then the appropriate region between two bounds is referred to as the quantile confidence region. It notes that the upper and lower bounds of the bivariate and trivariate quantile confidence regions are represented as a curve and surface shapes, respectively. The quantile confidence region is obtained for various types of distribution functions that are both symmetric and asymmetric distribution functions. Then, its coverage rate is also calculated and compared. Therefore, we conclude that the quantile confidence region will be useful for the analysis of multivariate data, since it is found to have better coverage rates, even for asymmetric distributions.

  • It is known that slab thermal storage which uses concrete slab as thermal material is effective in the load leveling and using the nighttime electric power. The temperature distribution is not constant in plenum in thermal storage time by beams, ducts such as several factor. It is considered that this fact will effect on efficiency of thermal storage and indoor thermal environment. The purpose of this paper is to examine the thermal environment inside plenum. A macro model was made for the analysis of indoor thermal environment as the first step. The flow rate distribution and temperature distribution of object room model was examined by use of basic equations such as airflow by the pressure difference between unit cells, heat flow by air and heat transfer.

  • The cost needed to managing equipment is constantly increasing because of increase of power equipment. The regulations such as PAS 55 and ISO 55000 were enacted to manage equipment assets. The advanced management methods such as real-time monitoring, condition evaluation, and health indices are avalable in generation system, transmission system, and substation transformers. However, These methods can not be applied to distribution equipment because of a lot of equipment. Therefore reliability assessment is very important in case of distribution equipment. In this paper, failure rates are extracted considering characteristics of regions, and which are the essential factors to reliability evaluation.

  • This study aims to analyze causalities among Hairtail prices by distribution channel using a vector autoregressive model. This study applies unit-root test for stability of data, uses Granger causality test to know interaction among Hairtail Prices by distribution channel, and employes the vector autoregressive model to estimate statistical impacts among t-2 period variables used in model. Analyzing results of this study are as follows. First, ADF, PP, and KPSS tests show that the change rate of Hairtail price by distribution channel differentiated by logarithm is stable. Second, a Granger causality test presents that the producer price of Hairtail leads the wholesale price and then the wholesale price leads the consumer price. Third, the vector autoregressive model suggests that the change rate of Hairtail producer price of t-2 period variables statistically, significantly impacts change rates of own, wholesale, and consumer prices at current period. Fourth, the impulse response analysis indicates that impulse responses of the structural shocks with a respectively distribution channel of the Hairtail prices are relatively more powerful in own distribution channel than in other distribution channels. Fifth, a forecast error variance decomposition of the Hairtail prices points out that the own price has relatively more powerful influence than other prices.

  • Purpose - The objective of this study was to examine the volatility of the exchange rate of the Somali shilling (SoSh) during 2010, especially the exchange rate between the Somali shilling and US dollar. Research design, data, and methodology - The study employed aquantitative research design; the data was analyzed using contents analysis for the data pertaining to the exchange rate between the US dollar and Somali Shilling in 2010. Results - The main findings were that the exchange rate was very volatile during 2010 because of three sources: (1) Imbalance of demand and supply in the money market, (2) People adopting the US dollar as the medium of exchange forgoods and services, thereby reducing the circulation of the SoSh, and (3) Lack of a strong central bank. Conclusions - The study suggested three possible remedies: the establishment of an effective central bank that matches the demand and supply of the currencies, adoption of the Somali shilling as the official currency base for the prices of commodities, and minimizing the imports into the country and maximizing its exports, to support the strengthening of the Somali shilling.

  • Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of broadband access, education level, population numbers, and investment on the unemployment rate in Indonesia. Research design, data, and methodology: This study uses panel data from 34 provinces from 2016 to 2019. The analysis uses the fixed-effect model for panel data with the Feasible Generalized Least Square (FGLS) estimation method. Results: Broadband access has a negative and significant effect on the unemployment rate. Mean years of school, population, and foreign direct investment also have a negative and significant impact on the unemployment rate. In contrast, the domestic direct investment variable has a positive and significant effect. Conclusion: The availability of broadband access in an area allows easier and faster access to information. The ease of access to such information can affect producing goods and services, encouraging innovation and employment growth, and reducing the unemployment rate. This research recommends that the government intensify the Indonesia Broadband Plan policy to accelerate the development and equitable distribution of broadband access in all regions of Indonesia.

  • In this study, a damage estimation model for water distribution system was developed to quantitatively calculate the cumulative damage of water distribution system. And it was applied to real water distribution system to analyze the cumulative damage of water distribution system. To analyze the overall damage rate of the water distribution system, the cumulative damage analysis formula of individual pipes was established. And the aging index that affects the damage rate was analyzed using MCS (Monte Carlo Simulation), and Romanoff's measured data was used to calculate the thickness change due to corrosion. In addition, a cumulative damage estimation model was applied to unit network such as small and medium block network, and the cumulative damage of the unit network for up to 50 years was calculated. From the results, it was found that the cumulative damage rate is increased from 7% to 79% for the water distribution system of Naeduk 1-dong, Cheongju City, as the age of the pipeline is increased from 20 years to 50 years.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper was to analyze the Chinese government's announcement of the RMB's appreciation on July 1, 2010, and its aim was to ascertain whether the appreciation has affected Chinese export prices by empirically measuring the degree of the exchange rate pass-tough on those prices. Research design, data, and methodology - Using 73 HS trade categories with cross-industry and time-series data, the panel estimation of a fixed-effects model has been applied to measure the degree and stability of any exchange rate pass-through effects. The estimation results show that the export prices of most trade categories were affected by the exchange rate changes. The pass-through effect was generally small, at about -0.485, and statistically significant in most export prices. Results - The empirical results indicate that China would lose its advantage and competitiveness in export if the RMB were appreciated continuously and rapidly because its export goods would no longer operate under strong monopolistic competition. Conclusions - The implications for China's exchange rate policy suggest that it would be better for the RMB to appreciate slowly and gradually rather than radically. It is clear that it would be allow the capital free flow in Chinese overall economic interest to reduce the continuous appreciation pressure on the currency and pave the way for improvements in export distribution competitiveness.

  • Recently, the trend of research in hard coating is concentrate on developing the process of ionization rate under low operating pressure, to get the thin film with high adhesion and dense microstructures. In this study ionization rate enhancement type PVD process using permanent magnet is developed, which enhances the ionization rate by confining the plasma suppressing the wall loss of electron. By the result to investigate the characteristic of glow discharge, the ionization rate of this process is enhanced about twice as high as that of triod BARE process (about 26%), and more dense TiN microstructures are obtained in this process. Cylindrical ion energy analyzer is made and attached in front of a quadrupole mass filter for the analysis of the energy distribution of reactive gas and activated gas ions from the plasma zone. To analyze the operation mechanism of ion energy analyzer, computer simulation is performed by calculation the electric field environment using finite element method. By these analyses of ion energy distribution of outcoming ions from the plasma zone, it is found that magnetic field enhances ion kinetic energy as well as ionization rate. The other results of this study is that the foundation of feed-back system is constructed, which automatically control the partial pressure of reactive gas. In can be possible by recording the data of mass spectrum and ion energy analysis using A-D converter.
