Survey of Geomorphological Resources of 'Daegu Innovation Town' Development Plan Area (대구 혁신도시 개발예정지의 지형자원 조사)

  • In order to make comparative analysis of geomorphological changes caused by urban development, I surveyed the distribution of geomorphological resources of 'Daegu Innovation Town' development plan area. The results are as follow: (1) At the front of small valleys of back-mountains are formed small alluvial fans, and at the side of small valleys are distributed hills connected with back-mountains. (2) As small valley erode laterally hills, vertical bluffs and planner bedrock riverbed are formed, and in some riverbed are appeared mud cracks and ripple marks. (3) The depth of valley in alluvial fan of 'Sinseo District' is 7m. In Sinseocheon valley dissecting alluvial fan, fluvial terraces 2m high above riverbed are distributed. Those terraces were formed while alluvial fan was dissected after last glacial period.

Empowerment Model for Sustainable Tourism Village in an Emerging Country

  • This study aims to examine the community empowerment model to develop sustainable tourism villages in Indonesia. This study applies a qualitative method. Data collection is conducted through interviews, observations, and focus group discussions held in Ponggok Village of Central Java Province - Indonesia. The results of this study found that the tourism development carried out in the Ponggok Village used four approaches (1) spatial approach as a basis in determining the direction of village development; (2) sectoral approach through increasing the role of the Village Owned Enterprises to build the village economy; (3) human resources to enhance the role of village communities in managing village potentials; and (4) use of information technology to improve service quality, transparency and accountability. The success of these four approaches is influenced by the leadership, innovation, collaboration, and good village governance. The success of the Ponggok village to become an independent village in improving the welfare of the community is inseparable from the success of the Ponggok village government in empowering the community to manage sustainable tourism development. The success of development with these four approaches is influenced by leadership, innovation, collaboration, and good governance.

Effects of Firm Characteristics on Qualification for Government R&D Supports (기업특성이 연구개발 정부지원 수혜에 미치는 영향)

  • The goal of this paper is to analyze the effects of various firm characteristics on the probability for a firm to receive government’s financial supports for R&D. In the empirical analysis, a Probit model is estimated for the 2008 Korea Innovation Survey data. The main contribution of the paper is to investigate the distribution of R&D supports at the national level, instead of the program level. Especially, it is the first academic effort to evaluate the effects of regional and industrial variables. The results show that: (1) firm size and export increase the probability of receiving government’s R&D support; (2) variables measuring firms’ innovative ability, such as official designation as innovative firm, running R&D institute, number of R&D personnel, also have significantly positive effects; (3) firms in the chemical and automobile industries are more likely to receive R&D supports; and (4) firms in Teakyoung and Bukyoung regions are more likely to receive R&D supports.

Extraction of dietary fibers from cassava pulp and cassava distiller's dried grains and assessment of their components using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to determine their further use as a functional feed in animal diets

  • Objective: The present study was to investigate the extraction conditions of dietary fiber from dried cassava pulp (DCP) and cassava distiller's dried grains (CDG) under different NaOH concentrations, and the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) was used to determine the dietary fiber components. Methods: The dried samples (DCP and CDG) were treated with various concentrations of NaOH at levels of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% using a completely randomized design with 4 replications of each. After extraction, the residual DCP and CDG dietary fiber were dried in a hot air oven at 55℃ to 60℃. Finally, the oven dried extracted dietary fiber was powdered to a particle size of 1 mm. Both extracted dietary fibers were analyzed for their chemical composition and determined by FTIR. Results: The DCP and CDG treated with NaOH linearly or quadratically or cubically (p<0.05) increased the total dietary fiber (TDF) and insoluble fiber (IDF). The optimal conditions for extracting dietary fiber from DCP and CDG were under treatment with 6% and 4% NaOH, respectively, as these conditions yielded the highest TDF and IDF contents. These results were associated with the FTIR spectra integration for a semi-quantitative analysis, which obtained the highest cellulose content in dietary fiber extracted from DCP and CDG with 6% and 4% NaOH solution, respectively. The principal component analysis illustrated clear separation of spectral distribution in cassava pulp extracted dietary fiber (DFCP) and cassava distiller's dried grains extracted dietary fiber (DFCDG) when treated with 6% and 4% NaOH, respectively. Conclusion: The optimal conditions for the extraction of dietary fiber from DCP and CDG were treatment with 6% and 4% NaOH solution, respectively. In addition, FTIR spectroscopy proved itself to be a powerful tool for fiber identification.

Enhancing the Competitiveness of Organic Food Shops Using the SERVQUAL Scale

  • Purpose - This study focused on consumer perceptions of service quality in organic food shops, the innovativeness of organic products, and which SERVQUAL sub-dimensions increase purchase intentions. Another purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between consumer perceptions of organic food shops, their direct interest in organic food, and their purchase intentions. Research design, data, and methodology - We tested our hypothesized model within a structural equation modeling (SEM) framework, utilizing path-analysis implementation. The AMOS 18.0 software was used, and we found that it fit very well with the observed data. Results - The results of the full model (structural and measurement models) indicated the following fit indices: χ2=39.492, degree of freedom=25, provability level=0.033, RMR=0.047, GFI=0.948, AGFI=0.906, NNFI=0.958, CFI=0.984, and RMSEA=0.060. The effects of service quality on purchase intention, service quality on innovativeness, and innovativeness on purchase intention we resignificant. We also examined the statistical significance of the mediation effects using the Sobeltest and found further evidence to support service quality and purchase intention through innovation. Conclusions - These results suggest that, if organic food shops want to achieve a greater level of competitiveness, they must try to raise the quality of their service and actively promote the innovativeness of organic food.

  • The increase in single households, changes in consumption behavior, and the size of marts are becoming larger, whereas the packaging form is being changed to small packaging containers, small packages are being exported when exporting agricultural products, especially fruits and related crops, leading to CO2 at the time of export. Although it was processed, it was difficult to guarantee the freshness of the crops inside the package during the transportation period. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a new method of maintaining freshness for application to agricultural products distributed in small packaging containers as a freshness retention agent to prevent deterioration of crops by microorganisms due to changes in product temperature during transportation or display during distribution of agricultural products. I was researching ways to bring about innovation.

The Process Model of Retail Format Creation in the Japanese Eyeglasses Industry : The Case Study of JINS Inc.

  • Purpose - In recent years, new retail innovations have emerged in the Japanese eyeglasses industry and grown as a retail format. The purpose of this study is to establish the process model of retail format creation by examining how a retailer creates a retail format and under what kind of environmental conditions. Research design, data, and methodology - This study pointed out the weakness of the concept of the retail format in existing research on the retail format in existing research on the retail format variation theory and suggested the concept of "Formula" to analyze an individual retailer. This study categorized the subjects categorize the subjects of retail format creation into four categories, and analyzed JINS which is the retail format leader in the Japanese eyeglass industry. This study used secondary data because it is valid. Results - This research found "product handling skill," "changes to consumer purchasing patterns," and "competitive interaction" as environmental factors influencing retail format creation. This study highlighted how JINS adapted those environmental factors to create their original formula and suggested the process model of retail format creation through the JINS case study. Conclusions - This study discussed two theoretical implications and three managerial impressions which were derived from the JINS case study. This study also discussed limitations and further research issues.

Intellectual Capital and Corporate Sustainable Growth: The Indian Evidence

  • Purpose - The present study endeavours to investigate the impact of intellectual capital (IC) and its components on corporate sustainable growth in India. In addition, this study aims to find out the most influential component of IC on corporate sustainable growth in India. Research design, data, and methodology - A sample size of top 139 NSE listed non-financial companies over a time period of five years has been used in this monograph. The impact of intellectual capital and its components on corporate sustainable growth has been examined using the longitudinal data analysis technique. Results - The findings of this study bring to light that intellectual capital (IC) as measured by the M-VAIC model demonstrates a significant impact on corporate sustainable growth. Considerably, the results also reveal that almost all the explanatory variables viz. Physical Capital, Relational Capital, Innovation Capital, and Process Capital exercise notable influence in explaining corporate sustainable growth. Moreover, the results demonstrate Innovation Capital (controlling the effect of Physical Capital) represents the most influential component of IC on corporate sustainable growth. Conclusions - The research findings show that in the Indian context, both physical capital, and IC (overall), as well as its components, play a crucial role to explain corporate sustainable growth.

Development of the Transfer Case for Power Distribution (동력분배용 중간변속기 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the development of the transfer case for a 3.5-ton commercial vehicle. A transfer case is composed of many parts, including helical gear, shaft, bearing, planetary gear, and others. Helical gears are currently used as power transmitting gears due to their relatively smooth and silent operation, large load carrying capacity, and operation at higher speeds. The key parameter in transfer case development is the bending stress at the root of a tooth in the helical gear. The bending stress of the helical gear has been studied through theoretical calculation and finite element method (FEM) analysis. Major factors of the bending stress calculation are determined according to American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) standards, and FEM model analysis of the helical gear is conducted. FEM results are compared with theoretical calculations and the difference of the bending stress is described.

An Empirical Research on Current Status and Developmental Countermeasures of Language Services Industry in China

  • This paper uses Delphi Method and statistics provided by the State Administration of Market Regulation of China, attempts to develop the scale index of language service industry in China. Coupled with practical investigation and theoretical framework of SCP paradigm, a deep analysis on market behavior, market structure, and market performance of the industry have been explored. First, the study indicates that the scale index of Chinese language services industry has experienced an upward trend from 10.481million RMB in 2008 to 351.403 million RMB in 2017. Second, majority of language services enterprises are situated in Chinese coastal provinces and there are variations in demand for language services. Third, the standardization of language services are minimal while most of the talents involve a single discipline background. Fourth, most enterprises utilize language tools while there is lack of technological innovation for utilization of language resources and enhancement of service quality. The author mainly suggests four strategies which include: cultivating multilingual services, strengthening the development of industrial informatization and technical innovation, and optimizing the industrial talents structure while also adjusting for industrial distribution and regional coordination, which propose the meaningful implications for the development of language service industry in China.
