  • The aim of this paper is analysis of structure and development pattern about wooden coffin and chamber tombs in Gyeongju from the 2nd century B.C. to the 3rd century A.D. for researching to socio-political tendency and growth process of Sarokuk. Tombs buried with iron objects were built in Youngnam(嶺南) from the 2nd century B.C. with spread wooden coffin with stone mound(積石木棺墓). Also medium or small sized wooden coffin tombs buried with bronze mirror of western Han(前漢) and soft stoneware(瓦質土器) were appeared the 2nd century B.C. in Gyeongju, because of establishment of Han's commanderies(漢郡縣) in the Korean Peninsula and refuge from Daedong river(大同江) to Jinhan(辰韓). Separate tombs(獨立墓) with lots of bronze object ware assumed high ranked tombs of parsonage(司祭王) or local chief(地域首長). From the 2nd century A.D. the size of wooden coffin tombs became enlarged and funerary objects ware abundant, for example Sarari 130th tomb(舍羅里 130號). The burying pattern of this tomb is similar to wooden chamber tombs in Lelang(樂浪), which had prestige goods like lacquer ware and bronze mirror in wood box(木匣) beside coffin. Appearance of these wooden chamber tombs that were different from original wooden coffin tombs imply interaction between Lelang and these area with iron. Sarari community that held right of trade and distribution to outside through the geographical advantage grew up centered position in Gyeongju politically, socially, and culturally. Chamber in tomb as a new structural notion that can secure funerary objects became firmly was established from the 2nd century A.D. in Gyeongju and large sized wooden chamber tombs were generally built early of the 3rd century A.D. This tendency was reflected in stratification of community and growth as center of local state. After late of the 3rd century A.D. Gyeongju type wooden chamber tomb(慶州式木槨墓) which had subordinate outer coffin(副槨) was appeared and then subordinate outer coffin was as bigger as main chamber(主槨) the 4th century A.D., because of centralization and stratification in society and unification of various communities among the Gyeongju area.

  • The physical characteristics of the Ulleung Warm Eddy (UWE) and its relationship with the East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) were analyzed using the CMEMS (Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service) satellite altimetry data and the CTD data of the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) near the Ulleung Basin from 1993 to 2017. The distribution of the UWEs coupled with EKWC accounts for 81% of the total number of the UWEs. Only 7% of the total eddies are completely separated from the EKWC. The UWE has the characteristics of high temperature and high salinity water inside of it when it is formed from the EKWC. However, when the UWE is wintering, its internal structure changes greatly. In the winter, surface homogeneous layer of $10^{\circ}C$ and 34.2 psu inside of the UWE is produced by vertical convection from sea-surface cooling, and deepened to a maximum depth of approximately 250 m in early spring. In summer, the UWE changes into a structure with a stratified structure in the upper layer within a depth of 100 m and a homogeneous layer made in winter in the lower layer. 62 UWEs were produced for 25 years from 1993 to 2017. on average, 2.5 UWEs were formed annually, and the average life span was 259 days (approximately 8.6 months). The average size of the UWEs is 98 km in the east-west direction and 109 km in the north-south direction. The average size of UWE using satellite altimetric data is estimated to be 1~25 km smaller than that using water temperature cross-sectional data.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the main factors affecting air quality in urban physical space factors, and provide clues for environmental improvement. Nine monitoring stations in China's industrial city, Changchun, collected AQI concentration data from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019. This paper analyzes the types and distribution characteristics of urban physical facilities within a radius of 300m with the detection station as the center. The monitoring station is divided into three groups, and the difference in floating dust concentration among the three groups in different seasons is analyzed. The results show that AQI concentration is the highest in spring and winter, followed by summer, and the lowest in autumn. The place with the highest concentrations of AQI in spring are F (93.00), D (91.10), I (89.20), in summer are D (69.05), A (67.89), B (84.44), in autumn are I (62.80), G (60.84), D (53.27), D (53.27), in winter are I (95.82), H (95.60), f (94.04). Through SPSS analysis, it shows that the air index in a space with a diameter of 600 meters is related to forest land, grassland, bare land, water space, tree height, building area (average value), and building volume (average value). According to the statistical analysis results of spring and winter with the most serious pollution, forest land area (43,637m2, 15.44%) and water surface area (18,736m2, 6.63%) accounted for the majority, and group 1 (A, B, C) with the least average building area (448m2, 0.17%) and average building volume (10,201m2) had the lowest pollution concentration. On the contrary, group 2 (D, E, F) had the highest AQI concentration, with less or no woodland (1,917m2, 0.68%) and water surface area (0m2, 0%), and the highest average building area (1,056m2, 0.37%) and average building volume (17,470m3). It is confirmed that the characteristics of the area with the highest AQI concentration are that the more the site ratio of tree height above 12m, the smaller the site ratio of bare land, and the lower the pollution degree. On the contrary, the larger the area of bare land, the higher the pollution degree. By analyzing the characteristics of nine monitoring stations in Changchun, it can be seen that the air quality brought by the physical characteristics of urban space is closely related to the above factors.

  • The aim of this study is to draw forth the tasks for establishing the right of native biology in Korea through the case study on 'Access on genetic resources and Benefit Sharing'. For this purpose, this study decided on its research subject by selecting Hoodia, on which ABS treaty was made the most recently, through the examination of the representative ABS precedents on plant species. This study analyzed the process background of ABS on Hoodia, and compared & analyzed the ABS procedures of 'Bonn Guidelines' adopted by the 6th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 2002 and Hoodia case. Together with the ABS major issues in common drawn as a result of this analysis, and "Nagoya Protocol" adopted by the 10th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, this study intended to shed a light on the impending tasks which Korea faces at present and its role relationship. The research results are as follows: 1. It is required that species habitats should be divided based on biological classification and its subsequent community should be established with the development of infrastructure such as a community's independent production, management and monitoring of bio-species. 2. There needs to be a designation of ABS National Focal Point for sharing of ABS-related general information, boosting of implementation of the relevant convention. 3. There needs to be the establishment of ABS convention system consequent on legislative, administrative, political procedures, and designation of the Competent National Authorities for the provision of the format of Prior Informed Consent (PIC) and Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT) and their contents assessment and confirmation. 4. There should be the establishment of integrated management system of ABS-related research and development of forest biological resources and its relevant research projects. 5. There should be information development through the distribution of responsibility and role between the ministries and offices concerned according to bio-resources, and there needs to be efforts in aiming for opening a working group of academic-industrial institutions for developing a mutually interchangeable system. 6. It's required that the efficient access between industrial circles and the people should be promoted by setting up ABS support center of biological resources in ministry and office's charge. 7. There should be a selection of a national supervisory organization for securement of the right of a local community and monitoring of ABS convention implementation, and a countermeasure system for preventing outflow of forest bioresources. Conclusively, it's judged that it will be possible to inquire into the countermeasures for the establishment of the native forest biology dominion through such research results.

  • Objectives: Brain maturation involves brain lateralization and asymmetry to achieve efficient information processing and cognitive controls. This study elucidates normal brain maturation change during the gap between ages 6-9 and age 14-17 using resting EEG. Methods: An EEG dataset was acquired from open source MIPDB (Multimodal Resource for Studying Information Processing in the Developing Brain). Ages 6-9 (n = 24) and ages 14-17 (n = 26) were selected for analysis, and subjects with psychiatric illness or EEG with severe noise were excluded. Finally, ages 6-9 (n = 14) and ages 14-17 (n = 11) were subjected to EEG analysis using EEGlab. A 120-sec length of resting EEG when eyes were closed was secured for analysis. Brain topography was compartmentalized into nine regions, best fitted with brain anatomical structure. Results: Absolute power of the delta band and theta band in ages 6-9 was greater than that of ages 14-17 in the whole brain, and, also is relative power of delta band in frontal compartment, which is same line with previous studies. The relative power of the beta band of ages 14-17 was greater than that of ages 6-9 in the whole brain. In asymmetry evaluation, relative power of the theta band in ages 14-17 showed greater power in the left than right frontal compartment; the opposite finding was noted in the parietal compartment. For the alpha band, a strong relative power distribution in the left parietal compartment was observed in ages 14-17. Absolute and relative power of the alpha band is distributed with hemispheric left lateralization in ages 14-17. Conclusion: During the gap period between ages 6-9 and ages 14-17, brain work becomes more complicated and sophisticated, and alpha band and beta band plays important roles in brain maturation in typically developing children.

  • Recently, as a plan to improve the particulate matter and thermal environment in the city, urban forests acting as wind ventilation corridor(wind ventilation forest) are promoted nationwide. This study analyzed the conditions for the creation of wind ventilation forest(vulnerable areas of the particulate matter and thermal environment, distribution of wind ventilation forest, characteristics of ventilation corridor) of in Pyeongtae-si, one of the target cities of wind ventilation forest project. Based on the results, the direction of developing on the wind ventilation forest in Pyeongtaek-si was suggested. As a result of deriving areas vulnerable to particulate matter and thermal environment, it was most vulnerable in urban areas in the eastern area of Pyeongtaek-si. Especially, emissions were high from industrial complexes and roads such as the Pyeongtaek-si thermal power plant, ports, and the national road no. 1. The wind ventilation forest in Pyeongtaek-si was distributed with small-scale windgenerating forests, wind-spreading forests, and wind-connection forests fragmented and disconnected. The characteristic of the overall wind ventilation corridor in Pyeongtaek-si is that the cold air generated from Mt.Mubong, etc., strongly flowed into Pyeongtaek-si and flowed in the northwest direction. Therefore, it is necessary to preserve and expand the wind-generating forests in Pyeongtaek-si in the long term, and it was important to create wind-spreading forests and wind-connection forests so that cold air could flow into the vulnerable area. In addition, in industrial complexes and roads where particulate matter is generated, planting techniques should be applied to prevent the spread of particulate matte to surrounding areas by creating wind-spreading forests considering the particulate matter blocking. This study can be used not only as the basis data for wind ventilation forest project in Pyeongtaek-si, but also as the basis data for urban forest creation and management.

  • In this study, we coupled a computation fluid dynamics (CFD) model to the local data assimilation and prediction system (LDAPS), a current operational numerical weather prediction model of the Korea Meteorological Administration. We investigated the characteristics of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) distributions in a building-congested district. To analyze the effects of road emission on the PM2.5 concentrations, we calculated road emissions based on the monthly, daily, and hourly emission factors and the total amount of PM2.5 emissions established from the Clean Air Policy Support System (CAPSS) of the Ministry of Environment. We validated the simulated PM2.5 concentrations against those measured at the PKNU-AQ Sensor stations. In the cases of no road emission, the LDAPS-CFD model underestimated the PM2.5 concentrations measured at the PKNU-AQ Sensor stations. The LDAPS-CFD model improved the PM2.5 concentration predictions by considering road emission. At 07 and 19 LST on 22 June 2020, the southerly wind was dominant at the target area. The PM2.5 distribution at 07 LST were similar to that at 19 LST. The simulated PM2.5 concentrations were significantly affected by the road emissions at the roadside but not significantly at the building roof. In the road-emission case, the PM2.5 concentration was high at the north (wind speeds were weak) and west roads (a long street canyon). The PM2.5 concentration was low in the east road where the building density was relatively low.

  • Rice is one of the three major grains globally, and has been used as a staple food in Asian countries for a long time. In recent years, with the increase in the use of processed rice, the development and distribution of rice flour varieties have become a research focus. However, rice flour varieties are susceptible to pre-harvest sprouting (PHS). In this study, the optimal transplanting date for rice flour varieties for maximum yield production with PHS avoidance was examined. Four rice flour varieties with different maturity types (early maturing type, Garumi2 and medium-late maturing type, Seolgaeng, Hangaru, and Singil) were selected. The field experiment was conducted in Chuncheon (Central Plain area) and Cheorwon (Northern Plain area), Gangwon Province, Republic of Korea, from 2017 to 2019. The transplanting dates used were May 10, May 20, May 30, June 10, and June 20 in Chuncheon and April 30, May 10, May 20, May 30, and June 10 in Cheorwon. In Chuncheon, late transplantation decreased PHS in Garumi2. In Cheorwon, PHS in Garumi2 decreased with transplantation dates after May 20. The PHS decreased in Seolgaeng, Hangaru, and Singil with late transplantation in Chuncheon and Cheorwon. The optimal transplanting date for maximum yield production while avoiding PHS for Garumi2 was estimated to be June 10 in Chuncheon and May 25 in Cheorwon; for Seolgaeng, the optimal transplanting dates were May 20 in Chuncheon and May 15 in Cheorwon; for Hangaru, it was estimated to be May 30 in Chuncheon and May 15 in Cheorwon; and for Singil, the optimal dates were May 25 in Chuncheon and May 15 in Cheorwon.

  • Purpose: Infrastructure inspection and its diagnostics technique have been rapidly developing recently. Therefore, it is important to secure the reliability of diagnostic equipment, and this paper deals with inspection of diagnostic equipment, introduction to a certification system and development plans for infrastructure. Method: Several certification systems are established and introduction plans are reviewed through experts by synthesizing the contents of certification research for existing infrastructure diagnosis equipment. In addition, the revision of the law for introduction of the system is reviewed, detailed operation regulations are prepared and phased development plans are reviewed, which are based on the operation scenario. Result: Inspection and certification plans were constructed through four routes in order to consider infrastructure inspection and diagnostic equipment in use, and new diagnostic equipment using state-of-the-art technology. Furthermore, market confusion depending on the introduction of a new certification system is minimized and reliability is secured by transforming a simple inspection system in the short term into a formal certification system in the long term. The law amendments according to the introduction of the system were reviewed and detailed operation regulations were developed. Also, phased development plans, which are based on the long-term development scenario including manpower, infrastructure and specifications, were presented. Conclusion: It is important to secure reliability through the distribution and certification of diagnostic equipment using 4th industrial technology to strengthen the safety management of infrastructure at the national level since the infrastructure is various in type and increasingly large in size. It is also essential to train human resources who can use new technology with inspection and diagnosis system in order to enhance the safety management of all infrastructures. Moreover, it is necessary to introduce a regular inspection system for infrastructure that combines loT technology in the long-term point of view and to promote the introduction by giving active incentives to institutions that actively accept it.

  • A CPFD (Computational particle fluid dynamics) model of solar fluidized bed receiver of silicon carbide (SiC: average dp=123 ㎛) particles was established, and the model was verified by comparing the simulation and experimental results to analyze the effect of particle behavior on the performance of the receiver. The relationship between the heat-absorbing performance and the particles behavior in the receiver was analyzed by simulating their behavior near bed surface, which is difficult to access experimentally. The CPFD simulation results showed good agreement with the experimental values on the solids holdup and its standard deviation under experimental condition in bed and freeboard regions. The local solid holdups near the bed surface, where particles primarily absorb solar heat energy and transfer it to the inside of the bed, showed a non-uniform distribution with a relatively low value at the center related with the bubble behavior in the bed. The local solid holdup increased the axial and radial non-uniformity in the freeboard region with the gas velocity, which explains well that the increase in the RSD (Relative standard deviation) of pressure drop across the freeboard region is responsible for the loss of solar energy reflected by the entrained particles in the particle receiver. The simulation results of local gas and particle velocities with gas velocity confirmed that the local particle behavior in the fluidized bed are closely related to the bubble behavior characterized by the properties of the Geldart B particles. The temperature difference of the fluidizing gas passing through the receiver per irradiance (∆T/IDNI) was highly correlated with the RSD of the pressure drop across the bed surface and the freeboard regions. The CPFD simulation results can be used to improve the performance of the particle receiver through local particle behavior analysis.
