  • The basic requirement of a distributed multimedia system are intramedia synchronization which asks the strict delay and jitter for the check period of media buffer and the scaling duration with periodic continuous media such as audio and video media, and intermedia synchronization that needs the constraint for relative time relations among them when several media are presented in parallel. In this paper, a distributed multimedia synchronization algorithm based on the fuzzy logic is presented and the performance is evaluated through simulation. Intramedia synchronisation algorithm uses the media scaling techniques and intermedia synchronization algorithm uses variable service rates on the basis of fuzzy logic to solve the multimedia synchronization problem.

  • The islanding protection for distributed resources (DR) becomes an important and emerging issue in power system protection since the distributed generator installations are rapidly increasing and most of the installed systems are interconnected with distribution network. In order to avoid the negative impacts on distributed network resulting from islanding operations of DR, it is necessary to detect the loss of mains (LOM) effectively. This paper presents a new LOM detection method using the rate of change in total harmonic distortion (THD) of current. The proposed method effectively detects LOM of the DR unit operating in parallel with the distribution network. We also verified the efficiency of the proposed method using the radial distribution network of IEEE 34 bus model.

  • Recently, parallel operation of dc-dc converters has been widely used in distributed power systems. In this paper, a control method to achieve parallel operation of three-phase bi-directional isolated interleaved dc-dc converters is discussed for the battery charging and discharging system which consists of the 32 battery charger/dischargers and two three-phase bi-directional isolated interleaved dc-dc converters. In the boost mode, the battery energy is delivered to the grid, whereas the grid energy is transferred to the battery in the buck mode operation. The average current sharing control method is employed to obtain an equal conducting of each phase current in the three-phase dc-dc converter. By using the proposed method, the imbalance factor is gratefully reduced from 8 percent to 1 percent. Two 2.5kW three-phase bi-directional dc-dc converter prototype have been built and the proposed method has been verified through experiments.

  • A research to evaluate the efficiency of design optimization was carried out for aerodynamic design optimization problem in distributed computing environment. The aerodynamic analyses which take most of computational work during design optimization were divided into several jobs and allocated to associated PC clients through network. This is not a parallel process based on domain decomposition in a single analysis rather than a simultaneous distributed-analyses using network-distributed computers. GBOM(gradient-based optimization method), SAO(Sequential Approximate Optimization) and RSM(Response Surface Method) were implemented to perform design optimization of transonic airfoils and evaluate their efficiencies. dimensional minimization followed by direction search involved in the GBOM was found an obstacle against improving efficiency of the design process in the present distributed computing system. The SAO was found fairly suitable for the distributed computing environment even it has a handicap of local search. The RSM is apparently the most efficient algorithm in the present distributed computing environment, but additional trial and error works needed to enhance the reliability of the approximation model deteriorate its efficiency from the practical point of view.

  • The Smith-Watrman (SW) algorithm is a local alignment algorithm which is one of important operations in DNA sequence analysis. The SW algorithm finds the optimal local alignment with respect to the scoring system being used, but it has a problem to demand long execution time. To solve the problem of SW, some methods to perform SW in distributed and parallel manner have been proposed. The ADAM which is a distributed and parallel processing framework for DNA sequence has parallel SW. However, the parallel SW of the ADAM does not consider that the SW is a dynamic programming method, so the parallel SW of the ADAM has the limit of its performance. In this paper, we propose a method to enhance the parallel SW of ADAM. The proposed parallel SW (PSW) is performed in two phases. In the first phase, the PSW splits a DNA sequence into the number of partitions and assigns them to multiple nodes. Then, the original Smith-Waterman algorithm is performed in parallel at each node. In the second phase, the PSW estimates the portion of data sequence that should be recalculated, and the recalculation is performed on the portions in parallel at each node. In the experiment, we compare the proposed PSW to the parallel SW of the ADAM to show the superiority of the PSW.

  • In this paper we estimate the reliability of parallel system with two components. We assume that the strengths of these components follow bivariate exponential(BVE) models proposed by Marshall-Olkin(1967) Block-Basu(1974) Freund(1961) and Proschan-Sullo(1974) These two components are subjected to a normally distributed random stress which is independent of the strength of the components. If the strengths ($\textit{X}_1$, $\textit{X}_2$) are subjected to a stress($\textit{Y}$) then the system reliability ($\textit{R}$) is given by $\textit{R}=\textit{P}[\textit{Y} We present some numerical results and compare the bias and the mean square error of the maximum likelihood estimator and proposed estimators for a moderate sized samples when $(\textit{X}_1, \textit{X}_2)$ follow BVE of Marshall-Olkin.

  • In this paper, we implemented a Wi-Fi based cluster system using raspberry pi for multidisciplinary education. The cluster implementation on the desktop was more difficult to maintain the complexity, big size, high price, power consumption as the number of nodes increased. In this paper, we implemented a cluster using Raspberry Pi, which is developed for educational purposes, to reduce the cost of connecting nodes. In addition, the complexity of system construction is reduced by replacing the connection between each node with Wi-Fi. Also, the inconvenience of configuration due to node increase was reduced. It is expected that the implementation of the cluster will be a good alternative in the educational environment where distributed processing and parallel processing are performed in the embedded environment. Also, it is confirmed that it can be applied to the multidisciplinary education.

  • As personal information protection act was recently enforced, a mechanism which saves encrypted personal information has been used to Information Security systems. To use the mechanism, a millions of personal information which are already saved on the system first have to be encrypted. At the moment, it may cause a resource scarcity on server, and also take a lot of time. Thus, this paper suggests a way to encrypt millions of personal information by using multi-server with low specifications and measures its performance on test environment. And, I was compared with the performance of high- specification server. As a compared result, the mechanism with three devices by parallel and distributed processing improved its performance by 128%, and the mechanism with five devices by the same processing improved its performance by 158%.

  • This paper is to design stable fuzzy controller so as to control chaotic nonlinear systems effectively via fuzzy control system and Parallel Distributed Compensation (PDC) design. To design fuzzy control system, nonlinear systems are represented by Takagi-sugeno(TS) fuzzy models. The PDC is employed to design fuzzy controllers from the TS fuzzy models. The stability analysis and control design problems is to find a common Lyapunov function for a set of linear matrix inequalitys(LMIs). The designed fuzzy controller is applied to Rossler system. The simulation results show the effectiveness of our controller.

  • One of the drawbacks of GA-based structural optimization is that the fitness evaluation of a population of hundreds of individuals requiring hundreds of structural analyses at each CA generation is computational too expensive. Therefore, a parallel genetic algorithm is developed for structural optimization on a cluster of personal computers in this paper. Based on the parallel genetic algorithm, a population at every generation is partitioned into a number of sub-populations equal to the number of slave computers. Parallelism is exploited at sub-population level by allocationg each sub-population to a slave computer. Thus, fitness of a population at each generation can be concurrently evaluated on a cluster of personal computers. For implementation of the algorithm a virtual distributed computing system in a collection of personal computers connected via a 100 Mb/s Ethernet LAN. The algorithm is applied to the minimum weight design of a steel structure. The results show that the computational time requied for serial GA-based structural optimization process is drastically reduced.
