  • Cluster system provides attractive scalability in terms of computation power and memory size. With the advances in high speed computer network technology, cluster systems are becoming increasingly competitive compared to expensive parallel machines. In parallel processing program, each task load is difficult to predict before running the program and each task is interdependent each other in many ways. Load imbalancing induces an obstacle to system performance. Most of researches in load balancing were concerned with distributed system but researches in cluster system are few. In cluster system, the dynamic load balancing algorithm which evaluates each processor's load in runtime is purpose that the load of each node are evenly distributed. But, if communication cost or node complexity becomes high, it is not effective method for all nodes to attend load balancing process. In that circumstances, it is good to reduce the number of node which attend to load balancing process. We have modeled cluster systems and proposed marginal dynamic load balancing algorithms suitable for that circumstances.

  • The radical development of recent network technology provides the basic foundation which can establish a high speed and cheap cluster system. It is a general trend that conventional cluster systems are built as the system over a fixed level based on stabilized and high speed local networks. A multi-distributed web cluster group is a web cluster model which can obtain high performance, high efficiency and high availability through mutual cooperative works between effective job division and system nodes through parallel performance of a given work and shared memory of SC-Server with low price and low speed system nodes on networks. For this, multi-distributed web cluster group builds a sub-cluster group bound with single imaginary networks of multiple system nodes and uses the web distributed shared memory of system nodes for the effective data transmission within sub-cluster groups. Since the presented model uses a load balancing and parallel computing method of large-scale work required from users, it can maximize the processing efficiency.

  • Owing to the environmental problems as well as increasing energy prices and power plant construction costs, many researches have been made for the safe operation of distributed generations. In order to be more popularly used in parallel with the distribution network, the distributed generation and its correlation with the power system should be exactly monitored at any time. This paper presents a monitoring system which displays the important states of the distributed generation in operation and stores various measurements of the system. The proposed system constructs a data-base for developing algorithms against any faults of the interconnected system, and monitors efficiently at any place with the communication network function.

  • This paper presents the parallel distributed control scheme for shaping of the bent glass. The designed system consists of a PC, a main controller and 11 servo-controllers, the precision motion controllers. Each elements are connected by using RS-232C and 8-bit data bus. In order to guarantee the stability and the control performance, we use a precision PID motion controller and a H-bridge on the servo-drivers. PC calculates position values of 11 DC motors by using the pre-determined curvature value and offers the user interface environment operator. The main controller provides the control instructions and parameter values to 11 servo-controllers by chip enable signal, simultaneously. Using the received commands and parameter values, the servo-controllers control the positions of the DC motors based on PID control scheme.

  • Indexing allows converting raw document collection into easily searchable representation. Web searching by Google or Yahoo provides subsecond response time which is made possible by efficient indexing of web-pages over the entire Web. Indexing process gets challenging when the scale gets bigger. Parallel techniques, such as MapReduce framework can assist in efficient large-scale indexing process. In this paper we propose PDFindexer, system for indexing scientific papers in PDF using MapReduce programming model. Unlike Web search engines, our target domain is scientific papers, which has pre-defined structure, such as title, abstract, sections, references. Our proposed system enables parsing scientific papers in PDF recreating their structure and performing efficient distributed indexing with MapReduce framework in a cluster of nodes. We provide the overview of the system, their components and interactions among them. We discuss some issues related with the design of the system and usage of MapReduce in parsing and indexing of large document collection.

  • In this paper, we propose an image-based indoor localization system using parallel distributed computing. In order to reduce computation time for indoor localization, an scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm is performed in parallel by using Apache Spark. Toward this goal, we propose a novel image processing interface of Apache Spark. The experimental results show that the speed of the proposed system is about 3.6 times better than that of the conventional system.

  • Many researchers have recently studied multi-level formulation strategies to solve the MDO problems and they basically distributed the coupling compatibilities across all disciplines, while single-level formulations concentrate all the controls at the system-level. In addition, approximation techniques became remedies for computationally expensive analyses and simulations. This paper studies comparisons of the MDO methods with respect to computing performance considering both conventional sequential and modem distributed/parallel processing environments. The comparisons show Individual Disciplinary Feasible (IDF) formulation is the most efficient for sequential processing and IDF with approximation (IDFa) is the most efficient for parallel processing. Results incorporating to popular design examples show this finding. The author suggests design engineers should firstly choose IDF formulation to solve MDO problems because of its simplicity of implementation and not-bad performance. A single drawback of IDF is requiring more memory for local design variables and coupling variables. Adding cheap memories can save engineers valuable time and effort for complicated multi-level formulations and let them free out of no solution headache of Multi-Disciplinary Analysis (MDA) of the Multi-Disciplinary Feasible (MDF) formulation.

  • This paper addresses analysis and design of a fuzzy model-based-controller for the control of uncertain SISO nonlinear systems. In the design procedure, we represent the nonlinear system by using a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model and construct a global fuzzy logic controller via parallel distributed compensation and sliding mode control. Unlike other parallel distributed controllers. this globally stable fuzzy controller is designed without finding a common positive definite matrix for a set of Lyapunov equations, and has good tracking performance. Furthermore, stability analysis is conducted not for the fuzzy model but for the real underlying nonlinear system. A simulation is included for the control of the Duffing forced-oscillation system, to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed fuzzy control method.

  • The main stream of parallel programming today is using synchronous algorithms, where processor synchronization for correct computation and workload balance are essential. Overall performance of the whole system is dependent upon the performance of the slowest processor, if workload is not well-balanced or heterogeneous clusters are used. Asynchronous iteration is a way to mitigate such problems, but most of the works done so far are for shared memory systems. In this paper, we suggest and implement a parallel large sparse linear system solver that improves performance on distributed memory systems like clusters by reducing processor idle times as much as possible by asynchronous iterations.
