  • This paper proposes a novel method for increasing the distortional frame rigidity of off-rail box girder bridges for cranes by reinforcing the diaphragm with staggered truss. The study starts by using the Matrix Displacement Method to determine the shear angle of the staggered truss diaphragm under two assumptions: hinge joint and rigid joint. To obtain closed-form solutions for the transversal and longitudinal deformations and warping stress of the crane girder, the study employs the Initial Parameter Method and considers the compatibility of shear deformation at joints between the diaphragms and the girder. The theoretical solutions are validated through finite element analysis, which also confirms that the hinge-joint assumption accurately represents the shear angle of the staggered truss diaphragm in girder distortion. Additionally, the study conducts extensive parameter analyses to examine the impact of staggered truss dimensions on distortional stress and deformation. Furthermore, the study compares the distortional warping stresses of crane girders reinforced with staggered truss diaphragms and those reinforced with perforated ones, emphasizing the importance of incorporating stagger truss in diaphragms. Overall, this paper provides a thorough evaluation of the proposed approach's effectiveness in enhancing the distortional frame rigidity of off-rail box girder bridges for cranes. The findings offer valuable insights into the design and reinforcement of diaphragms using staggered truss to enhance the structural performance of crane girders.

  • This paper proposes a new approach for speech enhancement in highly nonstationary noisy environments. The spectral subtraction (SS) is a well known technique for speech enhancement in stationary noisy environments. However, in real world, noise is mostly nonstationary. The proposed method uses an auto control parameter for an adaptive threshold to work well in highly nonstationary noisy environments. Especially, the auto control parameter is affected by a linear function associated with an a posteriori signal to noise ratio (SNR) according to the increase or the decrease of the noise level. The proposed algorithm is combined with spectral subtraction (SS) using a hangover scheme (HO) for speech enhancement. The performances of the proposed method are evaluated ITU-T P.835 signal distortion (SIG) and the segment signal to-noise ratio (SNR) in various and highly nonstationary noisy environments and is superior to that of conventional spectral subtraction (SS) using a hangover (HO) and SS using a minimum statistics (MS) methods.

  • This paper describes a noise suppression system based on a normalization method using a time-delay neural network and line spectrum pair having a parameter of frequency domain. First, a time-delay neural network is trained using line spectrum pair values of noisy speech signals obtained by linear prediction analysis. After trained the time-delay neural network, the proposed system enhances speech signals that are degraded by a background noise. Accordingly, the proposed time-delay neural network restores from the line spectrum pair values of noisy speech signals to the line spectrum pair values of clean speech signals. It is confirmed that this system is effective for speech signals degraded by a background noise, judging from spectral distortion measurement.

  • For a shunt power quality controller (SPQC) the DC side voltage value which is closely related to the compensation performance is a significant parameter. Buy so far, very little discussion has been conducted on this in a quantitative manner by previous publications. In this paper, a method to design the DC side voltage of SPQC is presented according to the compensation performance in the single-phase system and the three-phase system respectively. First, for the reactive current and the harmonic current compensation, a required minimal value of the DC side voltage with a zero total harmonic distortion (THD) of the source current and a unit power factor is obtained for a typical load, through the equivalent circuit analysis and the Fourier Transform analytical expressions. Second, when the DC side voltage of SPQC is lower than the above-obtained minimal value, the quantitative relationship between the DC side voltage and the THD after compensation is also elaborated using the curve diagram. Hardware experimental results verify the design method.

  • The effect of cation substitution on the inonic conductivity was studied in $(Li_{0.5}La_{0.5})_{1-y}Sr_yTi_{1-x}Mn_xO_3$ system. In case of Sr substitution, the ionic conductivity abrubtly decreased over y=0.05. This may be caused by the decrease of lithium contents which contribute to lithium inonic conductivity. Jahn-Teller distortion as well as lattice parameter variation influenced the inonic conductivity in case of Mn substitution. A and B-site cations effects on the conductivities were found to be independent, and the ionic conductivity as high as $2.8{\times}10^{-2}$S/cm was obtained in x=0.0006 and y=0.05.

  • As recording densities increase in digital magnetic recording channels, the performances of digital detection techniques such as PRML and DFE degrade significantly due to nonlinear distortion in recording channels. The primary impediments for hgih-density recording are generally classified as nonlinear transition shift, which can be reduced substantially by the precompensation technique, and partial erasure which usually requires sophisticated nonlinear equalization techniques. In order to acheieve the highest density recording, accurate estimation of the parameters associated with these two noninear distortions is crucial. In this paper, a new estimation technique to distinguish these two different nonlinear effect using a proposed adaptive algorithm in time domain is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed adaptive approach to identify uniquely the nonlinear parameter with bias is demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a text-independent speaker identification algorithm based on VQ(vector quantization) and vowel classification, and its performance is studied and compared with that of a conventional speaker identification algorithm using VQ. The proposed speaker identification algorithm is composed of three processes: vowel segmentation, vowel recognition and average distortion calculation. The vowel segmentation is performed automatlcally using RMS energy, BTR(Back-to-Total cavity volume Ratio)and SFBR(Signed Front-to-Back maximum area Ratio) extracted from input speech signal. If the Input speech signal Is noisy, particularity when the SNR is around 20dB, the proposed speaker identification algorithm performs better than the reference speaker identification algorithm when the correct vowel segmentation is done. The same result is obtained when we use the noisy telephone speech signal as an input, too.

  • Design parameters for suction channels of process centrifugal compressors were investigated, and an optimization method to enhance stage efficiency by using the new design parameters was proposed. From results of computational fluid dynamics, the passage sectional area ratios $A_c/A_e$, $A_e/A_s$ and $A_c/A_s$ were found to be the dominant parameters for the pressure loss and circumferential flow distortion, where $A_c$, $A_e$ and $A_s$ are passage sectional areas for the casing upstream side, casing entrance and impeller eye, respectively. The Base suction channel was optimized using the new design parameters, and the Base and Optimized types were tested. Test results showed that the Optimized suction channel achieved 3.8% higher stage efficiency than the Base suction channel while maintaining the same operating range.

  • In this paper, CMOS IADC(Current-mode Analog-to-Digital Converter) which consists of only CMOS transistors is proposed. Each stages is made up 1.5-bit bit cells composed of CSH(Current-mode Sample-and-Hold) and CCMP(Current Comparator). The differential CSH which designed to eliminate CFT(Clock Feedthrough), to meet at least 9-bit resolution, is placed at the front-end of each bit cells, and each stages of bit cell ADSC (Analog-to-Digital Subconverter) is made up two latch CCMPs. With the HYUNDAI TEX>$0.65\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS parameter, the ACAD simulation results show that the proposed IADC can be operated with 47 dB of SINAD(Signal to Noise- Plus-Distortion), 50dB(8-bit) of SNR(Signal-to-Noise) and 37.7 mW of power consumption for input signal of 100 KHz at 20 Ms/s.

  • We develop a methodology to use the redshift dependence of the galaxy 2-point correlation function (2pCF) as a probe of cosmological parameters. The positions of galaxies in comoving Cartesian space varies under different cosmological parameter choices, inducing a redshift-dependent scaling in the galaxy distribution. This geometrical distortion can be observed as a redshift-dependent rescaling in the measured 2pCF. The shape of the 2pCF exhibits a significant redshift evolution when the galaxy sample is analyzed under a cosmology differing from the true, simulated one. Other contributions, including the gravitational growth of structure, galaxy bias, and the redshift space distortions, do not produce large redshift evolution in the shape. We show that one can make use of this geometrical distortion to constrain the values of cosmological parameters governing the expansion history of the universe. This method could be applicable to future large scale structure surveys, especially photometric surveys such as DES, LSST, to derive tight cosmological constraints. This work is a continuation of our previous works as a strategy to constrain cosmological parameters using redshift-invariant physical quantities.
