Nonlinear Model Based Control of Two-Product Reactive Distillation Column

  • Nonlinear feedback control scheme for reactive distillation column has been proposed. The proposed control scheme is derived in the framework of Nonlinear Internal Model Control. The product compositions and liquid and vapor flow rates in sections of the reactive distillation column are estimated from selected tray temperature measurements by an observer. The control scheme is applied to example reactive distillation column in which two products are produced in a single column and the reversible reaction A + B = C + D occurs. The relative volatilities are favorable for reactive distillation so that the reactants are intermediated boilers between the light product C and the heavy product D. Volatile components of Schizandra Chinensis Bullion (오미자(Schizandra Chinensis Bullion)의 휘발성 성분)

  • The essential oil of Schizandrae Fructus was extracted by simultanous distillation-extraction and steam distillation and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The oil content of Schizandrae Frutus was 0.64% when extracted by steam distillation and 0.88% in case of simultanous distillation extraction and sensory analysis of the oil indicated woody, camphorous, spicy and sour characteristic notes. The experimental results confirmed the presence 47 volatile components, the major components were ${\gamma}-terpinene$, p-cymene, ${\alpha}-ylangne$ and ${\beta}-elemene$. The oil was fractioned into ten fractions and 4 fraction of them have a good aroma character. The application of the oil showed the utilization possibility as flavoring materials for Korea tea.

This can is used for the pharmaceutical industry because of amedical action.

  • In this study, thermally coupled distillation system and conventional two-column process were investigated for extractive distillation. The two processes were simulated and optimized using Aspen plus. Objective function for the optimization was energy consumption and optimization results to reduce energy consumption were used to get guidelines for design and operation for the two extractive distillation processes. Comparison of these two processes showed that thermally coupled distillation system provided better energy efficiency and lower capital cost than conventional distillation system.

  • Manufacturing technology for the production of high value-added fine chemical products is emphasized and getting more attention as the diversified interests of customers and the demand of high quality products are getting bigger and bigger everyday. Thus, the development of advanced batch processes, which is the preferred and most appropriate way of producing these types of products, and the related technologies are becoming more important. Therefore, high-precision batch distillation is one of the important elements in the successful manufacturing of fine chemicals, and the importance of the process operation strategy with quality assurance cannot be overemphasized. Accordingly, proposing a process structure explanation and operation strategy of such processes including batch processes and batch distillation would be of great value. We investigate optimal operation strategy and production planning of multi-purpose plants consisting of batch processes and batch distillation for the manufacturing of fine chemical products. For the short-term scheduling of a sequential multi-purpose batch plant consisting of batch distillation under MPC and UIS policy, we proposed a MILP model based on a priori time slot allocation. Also, we consider that the waste product of being produced on batch distillation is recycled to the batch distillation unit for the saving of raw materials. The developed methodology will be especially useful for the design and optimal operations of multi-purpose and multiproduct plants that is suitable for fine chemical production.

  • The liquid cathode processing is necessary to separate cadmium from the actinide elements in the pyroprocessing since the actinide deposits are dissolved or precipitated in a liquid cathode. Distillation process was employed for the cathode processing owing to the compactness. It is very important to avoid a splattering of cadmium during evaporation due to the high vapor pressure. Several methods have been proposed to lower the splattering of cadmium during distillation. A multi-layer porous round cover was proposed to avoid a cadmium splattering in our previous study. In this study, distillation behavior of $Cd-ZrO_2$ and Cd - Bi systems were investigated to examine a multi-layer porous round cover for the development of the cadmium splatter shield of distillation crucible. It was designed that the cadmium vapor can be released through the holes of the shield, whereas liquid drops can be collected in the multiple hemisphere. The cover was made with three stainless steel round plates with a diameter of 33.50 mm. The distance between the hemispheres and the diameter of the holes are 10 and 1 mm, respectively. Bismuth or zirconium oxide powder was used as a surrogate for the actinide elements. About 40 grams of Cd was distilled at a reduced pressure for two hours at various temperatures. The mixture of the cadmium and the surrogate was distilled at 470, 570 and $620^{\circ}C$ in the crucible with the cover. Most of the bismuth or zirconia remained in the crucible after distillation at 470 and $570^{\circ}C$ for two hours. It was considered that the crucible cover hindered the splattering of the liquid cadmium from the distillation crucible. A considerable amount of the surrogate material reduced after distillation at $620^{\circ}C$ due to the splattering of the liquid cadmium. The low temperature is favorable to avoid a liquid cadmium splattering during distillation. However, the optimum temperature for the cadmium distillation should be decided further, since the evaporation rate decreases with a decreasing temperature.

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of distillation Herbal medicine and Counseling Treatment to the insomnia In this case, a female patient, 40 years old, who had an adverse reaction of a Herbal medicine, complained of insomnia. We treated the patient with distillation Herbal medicine and Counseling. we diagnosed her state Rhosangsimbi(勞傷心脾), so we prescribed distillation Gagamguibi-tang(加減歸脾湯) for patient. In result, the patient's hours of sleep was increased to 6 hours from 1 hour. Conclusionally, Distillation Herbal medicine and Counseling Treatment Could be Effective method to treat the patient of insomnia with an adverse reaction of a Herbal medicine.

  • The distillation column is one of large energy consumable units in the cryogenic air separation process and the accurate energy analysis of this unit is necessary for choice of energy saving process. In this work, the energy method was adopted for energy analysis of a cryogenic nitrogen distillation column. In order to designing the energy saving distillation column, the exergy distribution of feed air, exergy efficiency and exergy loss for process condition was investigated and the optimal process condition to minimize the exergy loss was found. The result from this work can be used as a guideline for the choice of the process design conditions and efficiency improvement of cryogenic distillation column.

  • In the present study, modelling and optimization of ethanol-n-heptane separation process were performed using pressure-swing distillation. The pressure-swing distillation process optimization was performed to obtain high purity ethanol and high purity n-heptane into a low-high pressure columns configuration and a high-low pressure columns configuration. The results of pressure-swing distillation process simulation and optimization using high-low pressure column configuration showed a reduced total reboiler heat duty at 5.8% which confirmed a more economical energy consumption.

  • Though many divided wall columns are implemented in field as energy-efficient distillation columns, its application is limited due to the difficulty of building a new column. A novel energy-efficient distillation system utilizing the existing columns is proposed here. The proposed can reduce the energy consumption by about 39% comparing with the existing system. And it is shown that the proposed improves the column operability over the existing. The tray numbers of the added columns have no significant influence on the composition of a side draw.
