This paper analyzes potential interference effect of DTV service on Radio Microphone in adjacent channel. For analysis, we assume that DTV operates on CH 51(692 MHz ~ 698 MHz) and radio microphone operates on CH 52 (698 MHz ~ 704 MHz) according to the Korea Communications Commission policy. Minimum Coupling Loss(MCL) method is used to determine the required protection distance and Monte Carlo method is used to determine guard band to meet interference probability of 0 % below. In conclusions, protection distance of 1.71 km and guard band of 2.4 MHz are required for indoor and protection distance of 18.86 km and guard band of 5.7 MHz are required for outdoor.
This paper presents the FIR filtering scheme for digital distance protection. In most faults, there exists severe oscillation of apparent impedance according to distortion in transient waveforms. In these cases, this scheme provides more accurate fault detection and fault location, as compared with conventional schemes for digital distance protection or Kalman filtering schemes. The test of these facts were performed on EMTP result data. For the real time implementation of the proposed schemes, the motorola DSP 56001 was used to the main calculation board of the digital protective relaying system.

Power system has recently used Double-circuit Line and Multi-circuit Line in the industrial development. This has an advantage of system stability and reliability, but the complexity of the system has a disadvantage that makes it difficult to protect the power line. Double-circuit Line has two operation conditions in the Single-circuit operation and Double-circuit operation, so it has mutual impedance. To make it possible for the remaining single-line to operate independently while there is a fault with first line or when maintenance is needed, a trip region for the single-circuit operation should be set in order to set the relay trip region. An optimal trip region for each operation, a different operational conditions for the relay setting should be calculated. In this paper, trip regions of each operation condition have been compared by considering mutual impedance and fault resistance that led to the calculation of fault impedance. Also, as we know that one of the advantages in the distance relay is the back-up protection, we calculated the trip region(Zone-2) in consideration of the mutual impedance.

The demand of the power and gas energy have been rapidly increasing with the industralization, therefore, the area where buried pipelines run parallel with the adjacent power lines and cross them increases in Seoul as well as other cities. These situation cause AC interference from the power lines. However, there aren't any standards to preserve the pipelines from AC interference in Korea. This study introduces the separation distance to protection of buried pipeline from arc strikes caused by power line ground fault current. And this study examines and compares the arc distance through case study.
Zone 3 of the distance relay is used to provide the remote back-up protection in case of the failure of the primary protection. However, the risk for mal-operations under stressed conditions such as heavy loading, voltage and transient instability is usually high. Zone 3 is used in combination with the derivatives of the voltage, and current, etc to prevent mal-operations. Sometimes, the impedance characteristics that restrict the tripping area of relay are used to avoid the mal-operations due to load encroachment. This paper presents a novel zone 3 scheme based on combining the steady-state components(i.e. 60Hz) and the transient components(TCs) using a state diagram that visualizes the sequence of studies that emanate from the sequence of events. The simulation results show that the novel zone 3 distance relay elements using the proposed method operates correctly for the various events.

Generally, in nuclear plants, distance relay (21R) has adapting to protect and to operate main protective of transmission lines and backup protective of main generator. Operation of 21R was required and based on exactly accurate calculation and criteria. But presently method of 21R setting has applied according to protection devices operation guide of KPX, excepting IEEE and ISA standards, which have a difference review directions, consider parameters and devices, also consideration factors were affected to relay operations by uncertain guides. therefore this paper proposed new protection relay setting method and unvague criteria from IEEE 741 and ANSI/ISA 67.04.01, and reviewed a different results through numerical calculation results for methods and criteria including previous and established 21r setting by IEEE, ANSI/ISA Technical standards.
Maloperation of protective relays is one of the major causes for cascading tripping in WANS. Another line trip followed by a previous line trip may occur due to overloading of the line, because of the load redistribution or unwanted trip of a backup relay due to change in the flow of fault current. Evaluation of each line is required by considering both of these effects. A new index named Line Security Index (LSI) is proposed in this paper which combines both Vulnerability Index (VI) and Protectability Index (PI) to completely evaluate the security of individual lines and their importance in the power grid. Computer simulations have been performed on the Korean power grid data to establish the feasibility of the proposed idea.
Purpose: When conducting fire inspections in Korea, there are objects that violate the fire protection regulations that require a straight line distance of more than 5m between the air inlet and the discharge section if the floor area is less than 400m2, and this paper analyzes the reasons and conducts a model experimental study to support the need for related fire protection regulations. Method: Domestic firefighting objects were investigated and confirmed, domestic and foreign papers, policies, and laws and regulations were examined, and spaces with a straight line distance of less than 5m and more than 5m between the air inlet and discharge section were selected and analyzed through model experiments in a living room of less than 400m2 . Result: When examining the domestic fire protection regulations (NFPCNational Fire Perpormance Code), the separation distance between the air inlet and the outlet is more than 5m when the floor area is less than 400m2 , but as a result of the actual investigation, it was confirmed that there are firefighting objects that cannot keep the separation distance. In addition, when a paper review of overseas fire protection regulations for a straight line distance of more than 5m showed that there was no regulation on the straight line distance between the air inlet and the discharge section, the model experiment showed that the discharge speed was better when the straight line distance between the air inlet and the discharge section was more than 5m than when it was less than 5m. Conclusions: In this study, when examining overseas fire laws and regulations by comparing the performance of the fire protection ratio for the straight line distance between the air inlet and the exhaust section, there is no mandatory regulation for the straight line distance, but the domestic fire protection regulations (NFPCNational Fire Perpormance Code) require more than 5m. It is hoped that this will be reflected in the design stage in the future, and a foundation will be laid to reduce the responsibility and burden of fire superintendents.

This paper analyzes potential interference effects of Ultra Wide Band(UWB) on Global Positioning System(GPS) which is providing safety service. For the interference analysis, positioning error method is used to determine the minimum protection distance to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below and Minimum Coupling Loss(MCL) method is used to determine the required protection ratio(I/N) from the protection distance of UWB transmitter and GPS receiver to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below. In a result, the minimum protection distance to meet positioning error of 2.5 m below was about 10 m and the protection ratio to meet positioning error 2.5 m below was -20 dB. The protection ratio proposed in this paper is the same value of the protection ratio of safety service proposed by ITU-R. The obtained protection ratio can be used for the protection standard of domestic GPS system for the safe of life service.
